Just happened to get back into D2 a few months ago. Since they just reset the ladder though I stopped.

Ok, I'm going to be the first person here (AFAIK, I'm not going to read through 450 posts...) to be critical...sorta. The game looks great, very cool, but to me it just didn't "feel" like a Diablo game. Destructible environments? Lots of in-mission talking? Heck, just the part where he climbed down a ladder or where the ceiling falls down and breaks the path. The entire pace of the game seems slowed down.

Not that these are bad things, once again, my only complaint is that it doesn't feel like the very familiar Diablo games I'm used to.

Another problem is going to arrive when I have to explain to my wife why I need to upgrade my computer. I've told myself for 3+ years that when D3 came out I'd upgrade, looks like it's almost time. I want to know what the minimum computer specs are to run it...I want to upgrade but not break the bank.

If I'm not mistaken, that's right around the time when most of the people left.

I don't really feel that they changed the feel of the game much, just added a bit more to what was already there to make it more immersive (there always was some light environment interaction and speaking). As for the speed of the game, well remember they were walking people through it so they were playing slower than they would normally. I just hope that as you level up you get quicker like in Diablo 2. If they do, then that's something else to keep in mind. Starting a new character on D2 is almost painful because it is so much slower than later on (that and actually running out of stamina sucks).

I wouldn't worry too much about needing to spend a lot to upgrade. Ideally, I think you'd want a decent video card, a dual core CPU, 2GB of RAM for high quality at medium resolutions (16x12). The Radeon 4850 would probably make for a very nice card for that, especially if they make use of DirectX 10.1.

But then again it's probably just going to be like Nero, but at least nero's summoned guys are numerous and packs a real punch so he didn't have to go near an enermy. Anyhow, still early to say for sure, they might add something that will change this char when the game release. But the demo makes him real weak looking.

The barbarian was like that aswell ... before he got the uber armor

Did they say whether or not you can respec? I always hated that about Diablo II and even Flagship changed Mythos to allow respecing.

I don't see that happening. And personally, I don't want that to happen. If your offline/online character can be the same, prepare to see massive hacking. Characters modifying the data values for all of their characters attributes to get max level and the best gear. Any time you can store your character data locally you are guaranteed hacking, there is no way to regulate it.

What's the current difference in online/offline (and sp/mp if there are further differences)

there really is no difference, one is single player the other is multy, you can get better quality items to drop online because as you add members to your party the mods difficulty increases and so do the chances of rare drops, (thats how it worked in D2 anyway)

Glad you understood what I was posting, offline / offline ftw!

I can see where you're coming from. Maybe have an option if a user like myself wants to play both sp and mp, to connect to bnet for the character info or something. I just never liked having to create a private room just to play alone.

What I would want is something where offline/online characters are the same, but I want there to be some good security put into place which basically ensures that any hacked versions of any code are not permitted on the online servers. In other words, if an offline character does any kind of hacking then that will be detected when that character tries to log on to the BNet and stop them from doing so. Surely there must be a way to perform a 1 for 1 comparison? I am not certain how hackers try to get around such things so I could be mistaken. Of course, I will not be too upset if they just make us create a private room to play alone.

A normal gothic plate = uber armor, man D3 is gonna be weird

Kidding. Don't think it was particularly uber, just showing the graphics. I'm so not used to Diablo being in 3D!!

They mentioned in one of the videos character class specific quests, wonder how that will work out.

Wonder when they'll release the other character classes? I really hope they keep the Paladin (although they can lose the hammers/FoH and I'd still be happy), although I get the feeling they won't (I think that the Barb/Sorceress will be the only classes that carry over).

Can't wait for more info!

Good point about slowing down to show the game off. And I'm with you on the running out of mana, SO frusterating. Notice as well, it seemed like the barb's mana refilled quite quickly in the demo (never noticed it "jump" like a potion was used though).

I didn't think the game looked particularly graphically demanding (D2 wasn't either for it's time) so I'm with you, hopefully it won't take a monster system to run (although SC2's req's seem pretty high for how it looked). I'm currently on a 3200+ and 1 GB or RAM with an X800 XT PE, I know that won't cut it...

What's a 4850 cost nowadays??

Didn't they have an open bent option in D2 or something? I thought that let you play with your single player guys online. I may be making this up though haven't played in a while.

Currently in Diablo2 you can use your "offline" SP character online in the "open" environment like LAN/Open Bnet.

However you cannot use an "offline" character on a closed Bnet realm.

I doubt that will be implemented for a brand new game.

Anyways, even if your character expires, you can still play and unexpire him if nobody has made another character using your exact name. Characters are only deleted when their names are taken after they expire.

Yea it would be very unlikely especially since they have announced the game will be released simultaneously on PC and Mac.

Of course things could change from now and until then. Especially if MSFT makes a "special delivery" to an office building somewhere in Irvine, Ca...

actually I wouldn't be surprised if it was only vista...considering this game prob won't be released until at least 2 years from now

Funny thing is I burnt myself out of D2 about a month ago. I had multiple keys and was doing MF runs over and over again. I even had 20 accounts for muling. So I won't be playing D2 ever again even with the D3 announcement.

However I am very excited about D3 and can't wait to play it.
