At VE3d they have something with a Diablo II box lining up "well" with the crystals. If it's true, I'm going to have to take a year off.

The last 'rune' is going to be in the upper left, which will complete the 'star' that is seen in Diablo I and II. I think its the diablic star or something.

It seems that "a game" will at the very least be announced at WWI. Not that we are surprised, but it's nice to get a confirmation by a slip (?) of tongue from Rob Pardo at DGC Paris. GamesIndustry.biz reports that:

In a question and answer session that concluded this year's GDC Paris, Pardo was asked directly if he could talk more about "the new game" that rumours have strongly suggested will be Diablo 3.

"So you want me to announce the game before our announcement?" he said. "No offense, but I think there's like 300 people here, and I'll be ripped apart by 8000 people there [at the Invitational] if I pre-announce it - but it's going to be really exciting. I think everybody here will be really excited about the announcement."




so we definitely know it will be a new game. the only options are d3 or a new series all together.

the ending cinematic makes it quite clear... tyrael destroys the worlstone. unless you happened to be blind and deaf (or jsut didnt pay attention to ANY of the story )

I think the idea (from this thread or another, I can't remember) that Tyrael did destroy the worldstone but that he was corrupted by it (since it had been corrupted by Baal) makes the most sense of anything.

Either that or Wirt is back and he's the new boss of the game.

Funnily enough, I've also seen pics of a protoss zealot and of course the Diablo 2 box art which also match it. I'm guessing Blizzard likes the squinty pure white evil eyes look.

I'm not sure where I heard this, but I remember it being said that Blizzard was working on 3 new games (not counting the WoW expansion): SC2, Diablo 3 (originally hinted at a while back when talking about the Diablo graphic novels, Blizzard said they wanted to revisit that franchise), and the new franchise. So I definitely agree it has to either be D3 or the new game.

Who knows, maybe they'll announce both since after all, it's going to be worked on by separate teams and likely very different genres. You heard it here first, TWO game announcements!

D3 most likely would deal with the fact that Tryael destroyed the world stone

Baal is not dead, Baal cannot die, he's a demon, his mortal form on the mortal realm was destroyed, and his spirit clearly rushes inside the Worldstone before Tyreal destroys it with his Azurewrath. Technically speaking the Worldstone is destroyed, but if Baal's spirit was inside who knows what happened to Tyreal after the explosion, considering that Baal corrupts everything in his path just like Mephisto, I'd bet that Tyreal has an important role to play in Diablo 3... and let's not forget that Tyreal's speech at the end of Lord of Destruction is one of an inevitable doom for humankind and the mortal realm, basically the hero in D2 only slows down the process of Hell unleashing its entire forces on the mortal realm, which is the location from which they will build a path to Heaven for what would probably become an endless war against Light and Order.

If they manage to make a D3 without Tyreal then it shouldn't be called D3.

Very interesting if they really did say they were working on 3 games. I'm thinking one will be D3, while the other will be an announcement of some sort of console game(PS3 and Xbox)...whether thats a completely new game as well, or just them bringing WOW to PS3 or something...who knows. Guess we got what, 2 more days?
