What I saw was the old chrs ONLY 2 have been known so far.(thats all they have) and it AINT diablo. its single player wow in dungeons.

Diablo was tons of mobs and classes that did mages with aoe, WW barbs, a million arrow zons.

this looks just like a wow chr that they are trying to make into a diablo chr.
ONLY 2 chrs are being worked on and already gone is the necro, replaced with a shaman/death knight.

yep in 2010 when its released it will be wowoblo. and only $89.99...oh yea and $25 a month

umm...the game was just revealed a week ago...if you have ever followed Blizzard's development cycles, you would know that they reveal only a few characters at a time..they did this with Warcraft 3. You can rest assured that there will not be only 2 character classes in Diablo 3.

I can't believe people are whining so much when only a tiny portion of the game has even been revealed.

but then again as the old saying goes "you can't please all of the people all of the time"

Same here. I'm hoping for certain things, but not disappointed in anything I've seen so far. I'm hoping for the Druid....... I doubt it's going to make it in, but only "noone" knows

The game will probably retail for $49.99/$39.99 if pre-ordered and there will be NO monthly fee

You will never find out because you will die from black widow bites.

As for the druid, some of the concept art shows a guy wearing a pelt, so there may be a shaman/druid like character (or could be just an npc)

Two things that dissapoint/concern me... 1) no more necro... boo. and 2) i know its been mentioned, but Diablo is the only "M-Rated" series that blizzard has going, and I really hope they keep the same "dark" feel that made the first two so captivating.

Has Blizzard come out and officially said that there will be no Necromancer? Or are you just assuming that since the Witch Doctor is so similar to that class, that they would not bring it back?

Devs have said repeatedly that the WD does not prevent there being a necro class. If they did bring the necro back though, they'd have to probably change its skills somewhat to differentiate it from the WD, given there only being 5 classes (although the devs have said that number isn't final), its probably unlikely.

Yeah, I can see how a boss monster ripping a female barbarian in half is moving towards a kid safe look. Good call there.

If you do it with rainbows and smiles, it can even go on Sunday cartoons.

It's not hard to show violence to kids. You just have to give it a certain appearance.

I am concerned about Blizzards upcoming continuations of these series. I really hate how SC2 looks (like other mentioned I find the game to look very cartoony) and I hate some of the character designs (dark templar, anyone?). However, complaning about balance at this point is stupid because, as with the original SC, 90% of balancing will happen in the last month or two.

Diablo 3 looks a bit odd graphically. I hope they make it a bit darker or just add a bit more grit and detail. However, it doesn't look that horrendous. I really hope that they take a lot of notes from Titan Quest though.

I was just going to bring this up. Did you guys who are worried about it being kid safe watch the trailer? The barbarian gets ripped in half and there is a huge trail of gore. Blood and bones seem to fly with every swing. The trailer is also part of Act 1, so it should get darker as the game progresses.

I don't know why anyone would miss the necromancer, either. The witch doctor looks like he plays like the necro, but his pets are seem more versatile and less passive. Zombie wall = wall of bones that actually does something. The locust swarm kind of has a 'teeth' vibe going for it. As long as he doesn't have 3 toes and talk w/ a Jamaican accent, I'm fine with him.

I'm pretty excited about this game. The boss battles (and normal fights too) look very arcade like, as opposed to the older Diablo games. The characters aren't just hacking, but trying to do damage while staying mobile. It could be the devs playing it up, though.

The only thing that worries me, is that random names like Puke Snot the Glutton better be in the game. The miniboss was named "Thousand Pounder", which gives me a little hope.

i think SC2 looks great - DT's are different, but still cool (i personally think the scythe is more badass. just as long as they keep the swing of doom sound)

The irony here is that pretty much every high profile game lately has been grey and brown... and basically everyone was like "dude we need some color." Now that a developer (that has a proven track record for producing pure gold) came out and actually added color to their game, people are saying "dude, it needs to be grey and brown."

This straight up just goes to prove that no matter what, people suck and will always complain no matter what.

Agreed, there will always be people complaining.

I think D3 looks amazing. Yeah it's different but guess what, D2 was almost 10 years ago, times have changed, technology has changed...those complainers need to get with the times man.

Wow I got totally addicted to Diablo after shrugging it off for the past few years. I suppose it still isn't such a great game by today's standards, but it is addicting....glad I never picked up WoW and don't plan to.

I just entered the Lazarus Mini-level on level 15 so only one level left....then I am installing Lord of Destruction and finishing Diablo 2 and maybe start over again as a Necro, Druid, Paladin or Assassin.

Anyone catch that? I wasn't able to get the page where the guy says whatever it was (looks like it might've been his blog, probably got hammered and went down). He seems a little bitter about their ideas getting denied before and then being used now. Also, I'm not sure why he's angry about the Barbarian or how he says it's the most broken class just because of the leaping ability. Did he forget about the sorceress being able to teleport? In fact, something a lot of people complained about with some of the more recent patches to Diablo 2 is that they added equipment that allows all classes to teleport.

I played Diablo 2 a little bit then installed Diablo and played a ways through it (to level 13). It seemed so much shorter and easier than before. Was still fun. It's kinda strange because it seems both more and less serious than Diablo 2 in tone. Aside from the cow level, you never really had any lighthearted little quests in Diablo 2. I think they both complement each other well, and its good they didn't just try to make them very similar and only try to extend the story. Hopefully 3 fits in well, and the more I think about it, the more positive I am that it is considerably different than Diablo 2 in many ways. It should be a game that can stand on its own as being great, while offering little bits and pieces to reward fans of the series. I think it's part of the reason sequels these days aren't considered as highly, they're just extensions of what came before.

How do you enable that option? I've been playing Diablo for 8 years and I never knew about it

Diablo III is going to be a pretty awesome game, the bad thing is, it's probably still 2-3 and possibly even 4 years away, it's just the Blizzard way of doing things.

I don't wish it any other way though, without the insanely long development cycles Blizzard titles wouldn't be the legendary games they ALWAYS are.

IIRC, it's in one of the options settings if you go through the in-game on-screen menu. This was also with LoD installed. Maybe I'm misremembering things, but I'm almost certain the option is there. I'll be able to confirm it in a few days (when my discs from home arrive).

It was something the LoD expansion added...I didn't have that installed until just the other day and I read in my Brady Games guide that came with the battle chest that it was one of the added features of the Expansion. ...also one of the Super Uniques was cut out of the game.....why?

I like when patches and expansions add content and take away bugs and hacks, but I don't like it when they take away useful content.

Then again some bugs are fun to play with in single player only, or in a server full of friends that don't mind hacks.

Blizzard planning more Diablo beyond Diablo 3

"We also tried to focus a little more on bringing characters back, and not just from Diablo II but from Diablo I," he revealed. "People can expect to see characters from Diablo I, more characters from Diablo II, and characters from some of the books."

I donno. I hear both sides and to tell you the truth (this is coming from a loyal diablo1/2 fan) I am pretty disappointed with the WOW style graphics. Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt it's gonna be awesome, but I think it's a mistake to make D3 look like WOW. They should stay with the gritty-dark-bloody style of diablo that has worked so freaking well for so long and just improved on that instead. I for one am disappointed. But who knows, blizzard will probably blow every1's mind anyway

Well there you have it! You can always hope for an expansion

Barbarian will be the only returning class

Games Convention 08

Wilson says that there are absolutely no plans to bring back any other classes in the initial release, but, given that Blizzard wasn't breaking any news at Games Convention, wouldn't dish any details on what the remaining three classes will be.
Jay Wilson is new at Blizzard, and is the Lead Designer of Diablo 3.
