If the servers have to be down a few hours a week on tuesday to keep it cheat/hack free and do updates i am more then fine with that.

its funny that people even complain that their game is being patched... that is actually a good thing (most of the time at least)

League of legends used to be patched every tuesday at afternoon when i returned from home and i hated it... i just found something to do on tuesdays, or changed something that i used to do another day to be done on tuesdays

so i finally got to play for a couple hours last night with my starter key.

Started up a monk. I like the voices and i think the lore voiceovers are a nice touch. The skills are 'dumbed down' and streamlined, but i kinda like it. Being able to change skills at will is fantastic.
my only real complaint so far is having a weapon in the off hand. When you get better weapon and hover over it in your inventory, it will only show the difference in your main weapon hand. but if you hover over a shield, it will show how much damage you'll lose and protection youll get. just kinda irratating.

oh... and i really HATE checkpoints. i want to save whenever i need to take a break for whatever reason. (usually kids)

I don't miss the low level uniques and set items, with the exception of maybe Sigon's they were all garbage anyway. It was fun finding one I guess but you always knew that they were going to be pretty much unusable. I do miss the breadth of properties from D2 and the more intuitive naming conventions (though that may just be a matter of becoming more accustomed to D3 prefixes/suffixes) at times though.

However I don't buy the bitching about "I can't find any upgrades the item system sucks wtf is there int on a crossbow". It's a random system; you get lucky, you get unlucky. D2 was the same way, except then when you got unlucky you had to jump between dozens of different trade games dealing with spammers and idiots directly trying to actually find something you wanted and then barter for it. The Auction House is a worthy addition and actually makes more items useful as it's so much easier to find an audience for a good item that you personally can't use.

I did like the more rewarding sidequests in D2 as well, I still enjoy running around searching for events, unique mobs and the like but seems like the reward is rarely worth the effort. I'd rather get some more XP and fewer achievements lol.

Pretty sure if you hold the "alt" key it'll do what you want. That's how it works for rings as well.

Were Diablo 2 and Starcraft down during WoW maintenance? It makes no sense to me that WoW maintenance would somehow cause other games to be unavailable.

no but they used a different Battle net system

SC2 and Diablo 3 are all tied into the same system that WoW is, if wow goes down everything goes down, including the forums. im not saying its not stupid but thats how it is

I'm just starting Act 4 on normal...didn't even saw 1 Legendary/Set item drop (orange items) at all...only yellows...

Do Legendaries and Sets drop only on higher difficulties?

No, it's just random. RNG is RNG. You haven't even beaten the game yet, so be patient.

Looking for some tips/help on Nightmare Azmodan as a Barb. I think the Issue is that I'm low level (44) for the encounter. I have been constantly buying items off the AH, but my dps isn't great 1300-1600 unbuffed and my health can range from 10k-15k depending on what I equip.

I've been rocking barb build for bosses which lets me burn Azmodan down to like half health, but once he starts calling down pools I always end up dying.

Am I just supposed to run around and wait for him to stop calling pools down? He has something else that seemingly one-shots me during this. Any tips on which follower I should use for this specific fight?

No, it's just random. RNG is RNG. You haven't even beaten the game yet, so be patient.

I'll be and anyways all the normal gear will be replaced by better stuff in the higher difficulties so i'm not too worried.

I was jealous most of my friends found at least 2 lower lvl legendaries while they were leveling.

I finally got my first one at lvl 56 while doing act 4 for in hell. It was worth the wait got a Wormwood, lvl 59 caster staff with a socket and 3rd highest dps on the AH. I almost did not see it, i was kiting something with my DH in a area i killed in about 3 mins before and seen it laying on the ground, Text was hard to see because it blended in with the floor.

I'm on act 2 on Hell and haven't had any luck with drops either. Not only does every rare I get have the worst possible combinations, all the decent loot I get isn't for my class. Of the gear I have, maybe 2 pieces isn't from the AH.

I spent a CRAP load of gold (not as much as you) and kept gettinng boots with the SAME 3 magical properies.

Any of the followers have useful passives, personally I like the enchantress for the armor/aspd bonuses and the bit of CC she provides. The CC seems very sporadic but sometimes you'll see it go off on something important. Templar heals you a bit and stuns enemies, scoundrel does a little bit of damage and lets you crit more often. As long as you give them the skill sets that benefit your own character, they're all decent.

This build was what I used on my barb for Azmodan iirc, basically you just pop wrath/call/stun right away, once those were out I'd pop Ignore pain, then keep stunning whenever it's available. This will get you through most of his life I'd think, and you can switch up the runes on frenzy and stomp for more damage, I usually didn't bother. And if you have to, you can run out of the pools and let your shout regen you. Another alternative if you find yourself losing too much health is taking revenge + the healing rune, though I'm not sure how often it would proc there.

Right now your main priority should be getting to 60 as fast as you can. You can start MFing after that. I'm geared out from AH. Probably spent about 150k trying out diff combination of gear etc..

I'm @ lvl 53 monk in a2 hell.

anyone got a witch doctor to high level? do the summons get behind BADLY too fast?

im at lvl 17 in act2 and my zombie dogs die too easily, my spiders seem to do NO damage, the zombie charge is a joke...

its not that im having troubles with him, but im using him more like a wizard than a necromancer. Im throwing machinegun-darts and firebats to do the killing instead of eating a pizza while my summons do everything as it should be!

You're a witch doctor, not a necromancer. Your summons are more of a line of defense between you and mobs while you kill shit. It's not necromancer summon a bunch of shit and go afk while they play the game for you.

Well, if your gear/etc is good enough, then I'm sure you can ignore the pools altogether. But running to a clear spot til the pools go away pretty much guarantees an easy win. It doesn't even increase the length of the battle all that much.

minion stats correspond to your stats. If your defense sucks, your dogs defenses will also suck. Equip a shield instead of dual wielding.

There's a million rumors of "hacks" floating around but I don't believe any of them have actually been verified. Supposedly there's some method where someone can join your game, boot you out and take control of your character but it's basically a huge "he said she said" clusterfuck. Personally I would guess that the majority of people getting hacked are the same people that get hacked in any other game; the ones that blindly click "yes" and install garbage on their PC.

Yeah. Apparently it happened to quite a lot of people (mostly lvl 50? guys). All they need is your player name from the recently played list, and they can log on and strip your character. Your character will appear as offline but the character will be "online" technically.

Best blizzard can do is roll your character back 2 days, you know, 500k and 20 levels earlier. Especially troublesome with the real money auction house.

My monk got to Act 2, now level 17. Those ranged bees are annoying as hell.

Yes they are. I also found the tentacle monsters in Act 3 to be just as annoying, but also deadly!

By the way, do we know if Magic Find bonuses on items you give to the Follower stacks with the MF bonuses on our characters?

Yes, it does. If you hit the Details button and scroll down to the bottom, it lists how much your follower provides to you. I think it's reduced pretty significantly though. I believe I gave my follower a +5% MF item once and he only gave me 1%.

Diablo isn't an mmo, it shouldn't be needed. Also this one is 1AM-9AM PST.

People seem to forget that Diablo 3 is actually more like a MMO than not. Everything that you do is validated by the server just like in WoW. The only difference is that there's no such thing as a persistent world like in WoW. However, while you're playing, you get your own instance of the world. If I had to bet, this server stuff is probably one of the larger reasons why Diablo 3 took so long to come out. Getting this stuff to work right couldn't have been easy... especially when you add in the ability to pause a MMO-like game.
