I'm finding the Monk's summoned Ally to be what a "class pet" should be. He does decent damage and acts as an extra tank.
Don't know what he is like beyond normal yet, though.

I had to switch him out for most of NM. It could be my gear or relative level to the mobs I was fighting, but he started dying very quickly. I'll try him out again at some point this weekend.

i got the Farmer's Cellar to spawn last night in Fields of Misery..HOO-boy that is one funny little interaction there. i was laughing so much. too bad the maps generate randomly...who knows when i can go back to have a good laugh, lol.

I get that one so often that I didn't think there was anything else!

probably has the same type of scaling as WD Gargantuan/Zombie Dogs

people have observed that stacking armor/resistance on their WD increases the survivability of their pets

Never played Diablo before. Let me guess its like Wow right?

if playing Inferno in a group, then D3 can play like WoW in terms of pulling/tanking because of the difficulty of the mode. the core gameplay isn't similar to WoW though

yeah, this part does suck. sometimes i just leave myself logged in, go do whatever for a few hours and come back to finish because i don't want to or don't have the time to get to the next checkpoint. most of the time it's fine but i have been kicked out a few times and ended up losing everything anyway.

RUT ROH.
I jump on for 15 minutes here and there. Kill things (I have MUCH armor that increases gold from mobs) and collect EVERY gray item and any other item that drops 'T" back to town, sell and quit...

Never hit a Checkpoint.... Am I losing that gold? I admit... I dont track gold... I spend it wildly enough LOL.
I thought checkpoints were just DEATH respawn spots.

No, you don't lose items or gold. Only quest progress(sometimes, I'm not quite sure how it works)

Checkpoints are strictly geographic/quest related. You can log in, kill an enemy, grab the gold and log out instantly and it will save that gold regardless of what you do.

I'm using the wind friend in hell just fine, he dies sometimes when he pulls too much shit but not too often.

you lucky bastage!

i've been through there several times and last night was the first i saw it. :O

being the achievement whore that i am, it's both maddening and challenging that some of the spots you need to investigate/explore are not always readily available. my completionist OCD seriously kills me in these games.

I was in the beta test and played it through to SK at least 15 times and I've still never seen the jar of souls event.

No. When you leave the game, it saves your current inventory state, which includes your stash, character inventory and gold. However, your quest progress only saves at a checkpoint. Leaving from town is the best way, because it will instantly log you out.

I know what you mean about being an achievement whore. You should have seen me running through trying to get Kuul's head on my Barbarian. I was going for the 2 minute achievement, but ended up taking the wrong direction. I think the Barbarian is definitely the right class to do it though. His ability to leap across chasms is very helpful since there are no walls in that area.

The only thing that I don't like is that it's really just a lot easier to cheat the achievements. You can easily just get to level 60, set yourself to Normal and go to the proper quest progress points. I saw my friend doing that after he finished normal.

I'm just annoyed that I keep missing conversations with some of my people. I never found Tyrael in Act IV, so I have none of his conversations. I'm missing "The Weary Blacksmith" from Haedrig in Act I, and a few from Covetous Shen (best character IMO!) in Act I and II.

Anecdotally, I think some of the conversations only open up in in later difficulties. Last night I only just got the 'Talk to Leah' achievement in A1 Inferno, but I also can't tell if that's because they finally 'opened up' in Inferno or if I just never talked to her enough in A1 on other difficulties or not.

However I did seem to notice instances through Hell and now early in Inferno where I'm talking to characters and they have singular 'new' convo options, making me think certain ones are difficulty locked.

Covetous Shen makes me laugh!

EVERY TIME ...every single time i hear him talk i think of big trouble in little china and idk why i start giggling like a complete doofus.

but yeah, the convo thing is wigging me out. although with achievements being account wide, having lower level toons to check for some you might have missed works out as well. i might just have to say 'screw it' and work on it later, at least on my DH. a lot of the people i know from SWTOR are almost 60, and im only 37 and still in act 1 of nightmare. they are all like "wth is wrong with you? level up" :'(

Haha, I know the feeling somehow.

How I play is very progressive "at my own pace". The thing is I created one character of each classes, so I play five characters. I first made a Barb, leveled to 42, now in Act II Nightmare. Then I stopped, and switched to my Demon Hunter, did the same, leveled her to 42, Act II Nightmare. Then I thought "what the hell, why not", moved to my Monk, leveled to... *drum rolls* ... yep! Leveled to 42, again, Act II Nightmare. Now, guess what I'm planning to do? You guessed it! Going with another, and will end up in Act II Nightmare.

I have yet to SEE Hell difficulty, I still haven't even watched a single game-play video of it on YouTube or anything. I'm trying to avoid reading too much about Hell or Inferno difficulty, not that I'd be "spoiled" about quests or random Events, but I still just want to experience the "new difficulty" on my own when I get there and be surprised by it. I do have one of my friends playing the game too who keeps asking me "so, got to Hell yet?", each time I answer him (in jest) "not yet, in the meantime just play with your Monk if you feel like you're stuck". Hehe, I know he just wants to play "with me", it doesn't have anything to do with the actual difficulty, but he doesn't want to play "Nightmare again" with his Lvl 50+ toons, that's understandable... but he'll have to wait quite a bit before I get to Hell with even just one of my toons.

I just enjoy the game like this. I don't want to "rush" my enjoyment and then feel after one or two months that I've "seen everything D3 has to offer", nah, not for me, I'll milk the heck out of D3, and in due time I'll go in Hell (ok that sounds weird).

Oh and yeah, Covetous Shen is awesome, GREAT voice actor, it gives the character a very unique personality. When you read the actual script in the chat window when Covetous speaks, you yourself as a player can "speak out loud" and try to deliver that script, but to do it with such originality (Covetous' voice actor) is just awesome. I mean on paper his script is nothing mind blowing, but it's the way his voice actor delivers it, it's a superb job. I also really like the Scoundrel's voice actor, and the actual convos scripts are good, some of his comments are just silly, but funny too... "I miss every farmer's daughter.", lol, "Do you really have the intention to go down there?" (when going for the Butcher), your toon replies "Why, you're afraid?", "No I was just wondering what took YOU so long!".

Priceless stuff.

what level are most people finishing Act IV normal at?

Lvl 31 Witch Doctor

didn't really do much exploring in Normal. just focused on quest objectives.

did a whole lot more exploring on NM with my Witch Doctor and realized how much of the game I missed because of me not talking to NPCs, looking for journal dialogs, or seeing what's in a non-quest related dungeon

Usually at around Level 31 to 33 or so. I finished Normal three times so far, my Barb was 32 when I got to Nightmare, but my Demon Hunter got to Level 34 just moments before getting to the Prime Evil. My Monk was 32 when I finished Normal. I guess it varies a bit but not by much, I'd say anywhere between 31 to maybe 34 or 35 at the very most (not sure if there's an actual level cap in Normal difficulty).

Something I thought off after logging in to wow and lotro for a bit before going to d3 last night, the d3 servers either suck or they have gone cheap on the number they're using. 45ms in lotro, not much more than that in wow, and for d3 im happy that it stays just below 300 so the bar doesn't change color.

Level 30 on my monk. I'm halfway through act I on NM and already like 33 or 34 I think. I bought some new gear on the AH, for super cheap, and I'm more than capable soloing through Act I at least. Certain champions require some special care, but general mobs are still a breeze as long as I have Mantra of Healing up. My HP is really low still, but gear with +VIT and +DEX or +VIT and something else useful is the most expensive stuff right now.

All my friends and I seem to run at a fairly consistent 250-300ms, and that's people all over the country. I did once get ~120ms on a game early morning when I'd guess traffic is low, and I have had true lag spikes where latency jumps up to 1k/2k but it's rare. I would almost guess the latency could be by design to try to ensure a consistent gameplay experience regardless of location.

To me D3 feels very responsive at latency I would normally consider quite frustrating in most other games, I have to wonder if it hasn't actually been coded to account for it somehow as it seems like "around 300" latency is quite common.
