I believe Paypal will report your sales to the IRS if you have over $20k or over 200 transactions.

Regardless, it is your legal obligation to report any income to the IRS. If you're constantly buying and selling items, I'm not sure how it would work though. Do you get to report a cost-basis of $150 on the Blackthorne's Medal that you sold for $250?

Yeah, but you actually have to meet both $20,000 (gross) and 200 transactions. Here's Paypal's FAQ on it:

you didnt sell shit. You just made the auctions. But I really hope no one is dumb enough to spend 250 on an item like that (but thats highly unlikely seeing as most people that will buy from the AH are idiots)

or I did sell stuff and wanted to put up screenshots to show stats. it still remains to be seen whether the actual transaction goes through though.

Well, I've discovered that people don't buy stuff that's not 60... hope to get there soon. My highest priced item is legendary and not even 10$ but no interest whatsoever!

My main issue is how will Blizzard know the money you get paid with is legit? I would very afraid if I sold an item for 250$ that within a day or two, it will simply get charged back as a fraudulent purchase. I think Blizzard will have a LOT of petitions from people who want items they sold back because the money was from a stolen account or whatever. Using Paypal was stupid for that reason, they should force us to use our BNET account and *gasp* allow us to cash out the money that's ours in the first place!

You should say "don't pay good money for stuff that's not 60."

I made about $6 dollars last night selling level 50-55 gear.

Sure, that guy with the $211 transaction can go suck an egg, my $6 is more than I thought I'd ever make playing a game like this haha.

Indeed, hardly a week goes by where there's not a PayPal thread in ATOT. For anyone selling stuff on the RMAH now I would caution not to count your chickens before they hatch. That money isn't yours until it's in your hands; at any point prior it can be seized by PayPal. You likely won't get your item back in a fraudulent transaction either since:
1) Items are random; and
2) Any scammer worth their salt will use a shell account to purchase the items and then immediately transfer them through several other accounts to hide the trail.

Starting this year all businesses are required to 1099 any individual from which they get more than $600 in goods or services (this is a healthcare law change). Since PayPal takes 15% it's possible they will 1099 anyone who sells more than $4000. Blizzard possibly will have to 1099 anyone with more than 600 sold auctions. And, when you go to pay taxes on this income remember that the transactions are not tangible property and follow specialized reporting rules.

Well that just ruins the high of making thousands of tax free money

I'm not going to report my $6. I'm already calling the IRS on that guy and his $250 bow for tax evasion!

What's crazy is stuff that is going for 500,000 gold or less is being put on the the RMAH for like $20! Heck, it's not *that* hard to grind out 500k gold.

I just re-read your description, doesn't that make it a level 60 item, I mean technically? Haha.

Certainly not disagreeing, but just to add: it looks like Bliz is doing some kind of extended "checking" on these auctions.. What that means, who knows.. Here is the email I got from my item sold last night.

Greetings Jason (Yreka),

Thank you for participating in the Diablo III Auction House! An auction associated with your account recently completed and is now in review.

Item name 1 Final Guard
Time of transaction 13 Jun 2012 07:31 AM UTC
Sale price $49.99

This review is a routine step to ensure that every transaction is handled safely and securely for auction participants. If the transaction is approved, the auctioned item will be delivered to the buyer within 48 hours. Proceeds from this auction will be delivered to the seller's account within 5 days and in most cases within 72 hours.

not really, cause if you were lvl 60 that property would be is useless... so its a lvl 46 item

Oh I agree, but it was more of a "ha I see what you did there" when he posted that in response to someone saying "only lvl 60 items sell" haha.

Good times, good times.

What's funny is I tried to sell it for gold like for a month strait and went from 500k to 350k to 200k and nobody bit. So I decided to keep it for a twink. When RMAH came online, I just put it up for shits and giggles and BOOM sold overnight.

So... people can't farm gold but they are willing to farm $ ?!?

They must have flags for values in place. All my $2 or $3 sales were just "Grats Railven, you sold something!

Reciept

Expect your funds in 72 hours."

Glad none of my stuff is getting flagged for review, that $6 is MINE!

Sometimes it's easier/cost effective to dish out real money versus time. Granted I wouldn't do that (not for that value) but I learned that lesson when the option was A) pay to transfer a toon or B) grind a new toon, after finishing B and realizing I now had two toons and could only focus on one, A) seemed more cost effective in terms of the time it took to accomplish B versus how long it would have taken to raise the funds for A [along the lines of 50 hrs of grinding versus 1.5hr of work, jah.]

the $ to 1M gold ratio is definitely screwed up right now with people definitely overpaying in RMAH

Makes sense, they also asked me to sms verify when I tried to list my first high $ item ($100).

I was joking with a couple of friends on teamspeak that it was easier to move thousands of dollars around in online banking/portfolio management than it was to sell a $100 item on D3

Wow, about 6 pages worth of RMAH posts since I left yesterday. I have a non AH related question. The quest level for the boss at the beginning of Act 4 nm is 47-52. Does that mean if my friend is having problems beating that boss and I'm level 58, (In act 3 hell currently) I can't join his game to help him out?

You can join and help. I haven't run into an instance where I couldn't go back in progression to help someone kill something.

No, you can join any difficulty level you have already completed at any point in the questline. The level they give is just an estimate of what level you would normally be to complete it.

Should be able to, I think just Experience gained is gimped (not sure if loot is affected.)

I had to help my level 12 friend who had a pack of elites corpse camping him in Act 1. Haha. He sucks.
