I downloaded an enhanced graphics mod that was linked over on the [H]ardForum.

The default style of the game just didn't say "Diablo" to me, but these mods are a massive improvement. You can turn the mod on/off quickly in game by pressing the pause key to do side by side comparisons. I can't imagine playing the game without this mod now. The default styling is just painful to look at.

I used the one that's labeled as "resembling Diablo 1". Loved it so much I haven't even tried the others.

So I had time to play with a Wizard, Monk and Demon Hunter this weekend. While it is kind of fun, I'm dismayed at the lack of a skill tree. Unless some other kind of skill progression opens up later in the game, it seems to me that's there absolutely no reason to create more than one character of each class, and that every character is completely generic outside of their equipment.

The response you get to that is -

different skills chosen for LMB/RMB and hotkeys
different runes used for skills
different mercs and playstyle (which makes no sense if you can't have a merc in multiplayer)

But I agree. There will be overpowered builds and many people will end up with same character.

I think I'm going to miss the D2 style trees and synergies. Even though you can make different builds, you simply don't have the large amount of *available* skills to use.

Hit CTRL+R. As a note, it seems to be the same command that Blizzard uses in other games since World of Warcraft uses the same command.

My PC is far more powerful than the one you list, so I max out at the high FPS cap (the slider that's in the graphics option page) of ~144 FPS.

hehe i hope your pc is more powerful than mine, my rig is over 2 years old now

not sure if anyone is too serious about the beta, but I never got an invite so I've only been playing this weekend, so if anyone wants the gear I've found feel free to pm me. Couple rares, maybe some decent magics idk

Really? It seems like my first run of Skeleton King on any character produced a rare (yellow). After that though, nothing.

noticed that when playing with some friends. Ended up doing a few runs with a noob character (level 1) in the group. Generally got items that where rare, but so-so.

To the player offering to give away their items, no point (besides the open beta being over by now) as the accounts are ment to be wiped before release or something.

You guys know if Blizzard is still doing ladder resets, i.e., account wipes with each major patch?

I hope they give players some ability to "cash out" a little by the end of a season. In general most things become almost worthless by season's end due to supply saturation, but at least allow us to cash out a little in the AH.

Finally got to play the beta. Suprisingly it ran ok on my old computer (which I am pretty sure is below mininum spec). Played a couple of characters through to the SK.

It was ok, but I am pretty biased, since I am pissed they left out PvP, among other things. My biggest gripe from playing the beta is lack of leveling options, it just didn't excite me to gain levels at all. I really liked the DH and especially Monk, but I didn't get to level the Monk much because I ran out of time. And those were the classes I was least interested in.

I got a Barbarian through to the end, it was definitely fun getting gear and smashing stuff. The physics are farily neat and certainly a welcomed edition. It's a good game, to be sure.

But it didn't grab me, overall there's just something missing and it might be the combat. I've never been a big Diablo guy in the past anyway, I really prefer games where you don't have to target enemies to attack, instead I'd rather just have to aim and if my aim sucks the attack misses...etc.

So I wouldn't rate myself as someone that was going to like Diablo 3 in the first place. If they could have ramped the action up more with aimed attacks I'd be all in. I didn't play any of the other classes, so not sure if perhaps the others have some aimed abilities.

This looks excellent. It gets rid of the smooth foggy look and gives it that gritty look that I expect from a Diablo game. I may change my mind and bite on this if mods like this are available for the full game.

Must say, I'm not impressed. Played through a wiz and barb. Skill tree/stats totally dumbed downed. Here's your easy button, don't want you thinking about how to make a character!

I know it's only normal, but it was mad easy. Never felt in the slightest (nor did my health ever get there) bit of danger. Did nothing to make me want to drop down any money for this game.

I am running it at 1366x768 and I want to play it at higher resolutions though am obviously aware of the HD3000's limitations.

To my knowledge, X-Chat Azure does not use up that many resources so if I still have 75% of the other core free. Why can I not command+tab and talk to my friends on IRC let's say? Wouldn't a quad-core help me in that aspect?

The game CPU usage drops way down when its in the background. It drops the framerate to I think 8fps when its in the background. So it will free up a lot of CPU time.

And, I think the game is only dual threaded. As I have yet to see it use more than 2 cores.

Honestly, I prefer it to Diablo 2's system where outside of a few limited cookie cutter builds anything else would permanently (until they allowed respecs within the last year or so) gimp your character. I even recall that many builds required you to save skill points for the longest time. What part of that was good game design?

Also, it's probably not fair to judge the difficulty based on the first part of the first act of the game. Did you ever feel any danger in the first act of normal in Diablo 2? Honestly, the game didn't even get remotely challenging until the third act and even then it wasn't hard. Really there wasn't a lot of danger until getting to hell difficulty.

The beta takes less than 30 minutes to clear if you know what you're doing. Judging the entire game based on that seems a little silly.

To be fair, that was only post-1.10. In 1.09 any build could complete hell

I played through to the end of the open beta, but overall, I hope they polish this up a lot more. I was literally falling asleep at my keyboard on the last section when there were, what, 4-5 levels of the exact same thing to get to the skeleton king. Even he was a total pushover for me at level 9. The excitement wasn't there, it was just meh.

And good luck logging in. Error 3004, error 3006, having to press login repeatedly until after the 80th time it allows me to log in. Bad form Blizzard, bad form.

The game is overall an "OK", but I wouldn't give more than $20.00 for it. The fun just wasn't there.
