They won't ban you for buying and selling gems. The gold duped involved putting 6b up for sale on the RMAH then canceling it and getting 12b back. Unless you did that, you are safe.
Someone is already showing Blizzard refunding them for a charge made today. I think it is safe to say they are doing a rollback once this all gets sorted out. Meaning all the people who did the dupe get banned.
The guys on the stream weren't exploiting the dupe either, and they got banned simply for spending the money they made and traded. They mentioned the dupe though, so maybe that was enough.

nobody can afford jack shit now that people have billions and trillions of gold in their accounts. all the best items won't even be sold on the AH anymore since gold is worthless.

Also, I am not so sure the economy is dead from this. Most of the gold is destroyed from the guys doing the dupe. In order to do it you needed 6b. So, you were already rich. And those guys were banned. All the big ticket items and gems they bought, because they were the ones buying them btw, were removed from the game with their banning. The best of the best items weren't being posted on the AH to begin with. Rarely were there 6 crit Mempos and when they were they sold instantly for 2b. The market will recover and we will go on just fine.
In other news, I think I've found a decent way to link Eastern / Western passages. The Dagur Oasis had its density buffed quite a bit. Just running through on a barb, I got a 115 kill streak. So, starting there then doing eastern / western / northern? then Desolate Sands gives a ton of XP / Mobs. Might start with VoA though to get the 5 stacks quickly because there is like 1 pack in each passage.
I am not worried about elites, just super high density areas to grab as many white mob kills for XP. Generally, on my barb, I skip the elites until they have low enough healthy I can just kill them quickly. Following through my tornadoes is great. =)i didn't have a chance to tell you the path last night. i used this path for act2 elite farming when act3 was not accessible to the masses:
VoA->Black Canyon Mines-> Road to Alcarnus -> Dalgur Oasis
VoA for the obvious 5 stacks and tons of mobs
Black Canyon Mines always has an elite pack, sometimes it has 4 packs. You can skip this because there are lots of wasps here.
Road to Alcarnus always has an elite pack, sometimes 2 and rarely 3 packs. You can skip this, but the elites are always there and it's very close to the waypoint.
Dalgur Oasis has tons of mobs, but is a very large map. The East/West passageway is always in the same spot at the upper right corner of the map and there are tons of dungeons and events in Dalgur Oasis to make xp farming with 5 stacks better.
You can goto Desolate Sands after, but I hate that place because of all the sandwasps and jumping frog things, it's just a pain in the ass to fight them.

I am not saying the dupe didn't have an effect on the economy, but that the effects aren't as bad as people think. Sure, billions of gold went out, but only the rich got richer. If you didn't have a ton of money to buy gems before the patch, you didn't make a ton of money unless you used RMAH to buy gems. The people who duped had billions to begin with and that is how the dupe worked. Thankfully, I didn't cancel the auctions I made for 6b each before the AH crashed or I would have duped on my account, my GFs account, and a spare account I have.
you might want to try act1 for white mob density then. there are far too many ranged and runners in act2, although it matters very little to a sprint/ww barb.

With the shit price of gold for real money, it doesn't seem like they would make much real money... One would think, at least.
The places I was testing last night were giving 100+ streaks without me actually fighting. That was just running through. If I stayed long enough to do a circle or two, I'd have gotten more I think. The problem is these areas either aren't exactly linked as super well. I am going to test if starting at VoA, going to Dagur Oasis, Running through the Aqueducts then doing a lap around Desolate Sands it as efficient as skipping the last part of the aqueducts and TPing out and porting to Desolate Sands. I am pretty sure I'll lose WotB either way, but I can keep it up for the rest of the parts no problem I believe, so it should be off CD.
