This is a bit absurd but fun:
Found a level 61, 1400dps 1-h sword on my Wizard with 16 level req reduction. Sent it to my level 45 Crusader. Rerolled the Int on it, got Strength on the first try.
1400 dps 400 str 1-h at that level is fun

They DID change the legendary drop rate. I was lucky if I found 1-2 legendary items a week (Playing 2 hours a day typically). I find one every 1-2 hours now, sometimes two in a single hour.

This is how it was for me, and how it is now as well. It usually bunches up and you'll get 2-5 in an hour, then nothing for 8 hours straight.

My only anecdotal advice to increase drop rates is to switch up your runs. Run with different people and in different acts, different modes, different difficulties, etc. I always notice a surge of legendaries pop up when I enter a game with someone I hadn't played with in a while (or at all; e.g. public games *shudders*) on a different difficulty setting doing a different act or mode.

I gave my friend a socketed, 2-handed axe with something like ~2300 DPS that was usable at lvl 47. I think he's still using it at 70 on his crusader. He uses the passive that lets you wield a shield with a 2-handed weapon.

It is not 10s of millions. It is a few thousand gold the first time. The most I've seen (and I've only rerolled an item this high once) was like 150,000. Granted, I never look at how much it costs because I have tons of gold.

I made this mistake when running my crusader up his levels quickly. I was rerolling on an item to get reduced level requirement and wasn't even paying attention to the cost (I was so focused on getting it, it completely slipped my mind). Needless to say, that item didn't get -30 level requirement (only -18) and ended up costing me 20m. /fail Lol.

I still need a couple more drops to finish leveling up the smith and haven't dropped any on the mystic yet.

Someone mentioned Set pieces...my Wizard (level 65) just got a nice Set off-hand killing random mobs in a rift.

Guess that proves you don't have to be lvl 70 to get sets. I guess I am just not that lucky when it comes to set items.

He is not getting a level 70 gear set, it maybe a nice piece, but not the elite sets people actually want for end game builds.

Am in the process of leveling up my crusader, and found a legendary weapon (forget the name) that gives 100% CC against enemies at full health. Using that combined with the Heaven's Fury - Fires of Heaven skill is freaking awesome. Hopefully I can get my wrath regeneration and pool up to the point that it is nearly spammable.

I rerolled an item last night quite a few times trying to get a desirable stat and after 8 or 9 tries, it still was only costing around 40k gold. It started at like 16k. This was on a rare item, but legendaries can't be that much more expensive. I can understand continuously rerolling ending up costing a lot, but it isn't like doing it a few times and stopping is going to break the bank. Last night I rerolled vit on an item and literally got vit+vit 3 times in a row. It was like Blizzard was trolling me... And somehow, a hand cross bow with 100 more DPS (2400 vs 2300), a socket, APS, and a 10% crit chance, gives me less dps than a bow with 8% increased damage. So strange.

While you may think this, and its similar to what Blizzard thought (Along with getting rid of 3rd party sites that scammed people), it is not the way it actually worked.

It ultimately caused massive inflation of everything. Everybody put things up on the AH because there was no reason not too. This caused everybody to play the game only to find things that they could sell. This caused a massive paradigm shift in how people played the game. It made it impossible to NOT use the AH because the cost of everything was so inflated. This is one of the reasons gem's are so much cheaper to make now, you don't need millions in gold to do simple things anymore.

the number of people that like the AH is FAR outnumbered by the people that detest it. Games that have Pay to Play setups typically go downhill because it removes the aspect of accomplishment. You played through and earned what you have. As opposed to you bought something so you can play, and therefore have no real sense of worth that you built your character as opposed to buying it.

And its not like you have to have the best gear to have fun anyway. Thats why there is 14 difficulty settings. You can always find the best difficulty to play at. If you have no time to play, then Diablo (Or any RPG style game) is not a game you should look to play.

Some of your points are wrong...
The AH actually caused deflation. Gear was incredibly cheap. Gems were cheaper than you could craft them at most points. That's why people flocked to the AH...

Also most people didn't care one way or another about the AH. For people like me, playing the AH game covered quite a bit for the disappointment in the D3 release. Economy simulator was much more fun at times than the game... There are just as many people on the D3 forums that miss the AH as those that are glad its gone... Strange, I know.

A lot of the gem prices were because of dupes and "hacked accounts" rollbacks. So, those gems weren't actually made. I made a ton of money in gems, I followed the market pretty closely. I remember the patch that was supposed to stop the gem duping / rollbacks and bought quite a few gems at around 8 mil a pop. They instantly spiked to 32 mil each after patch day. But, gems always went up after a patch.

Finished Act V yesterday on my Barb. Malthael is a PITA...dammit I hard to drop to Hard to beat him. I got 3 legendary drops: Plans Reapers Wraps, one 1H axe and the Butcher 2H cleaver. Both weapons were downgrades compared to my rare 2H axe sadly.

IMO, the expansion brought the best boos fights in the game.
Urzael, Adria, Malthael
, awesome fights.

Started Adventure Mode, awesome mode! Love how you can do what you want anywhere you want. I upped the difficulty to Torment 1 and it's pretty hard...especially those effing arcane beams...hate those.

I'm now level 70 with 153K DPS, 461K HP and 5.38M toughness. I doubled since I started the expansion. Oh and having Ancient Spear/Boulder Toss crit for over 6M is an amazing feeling

Now I just have to find ilevel 70 upgrades to replace my gear.

For me it isn't the gold cost of enchanting that's the problem - it's the mats themselves - at least the orange one that you get from salvaging rares/legendaries. When I want to enchant a legendary weapon it's a crazy amount of mats. The gold issue for me is with the gems (removing, upgrading, etc.), but I came to the expansion with about 5m gold. I know that experienced players were leaving themselves with at least a few hundred million so that they would be able to upgrade as fast as possible.

The real kick in the nuts in regards to the enchanting gold cost and mats cost is when you don't even get close to what you were trying to roll for. Some of the different slots have so many different possibilities that you have to roll multiple times to get the enchantment you were looking for. I don't have the mats for that, so I roll once and fail, and I'm bust for a few days until I can get the mats again. It would be cool if you could elect to use like double mats, or some other special mat to get a guaranteed enchantment, or at least increase the chance at getting a certain enchanment The stats would still be varied, but you'd at least have a better chance to get what you're looking for, especially on the ones that have like 15 possibilities.

It's crazy how much has changed in a year. I primarily use a Barb, stopped playing months ago. Now I'm lost and don't know where I should go.

I've always used LoH instead of other means of health regen. Anyone wanna help? Should I switch to the Crusader? I prefer melee over ranged.

Yeah, the blue mats are the ones I find myself having to farm. Those are the most annoying IMO. =(

Also, I would only use the Marquise gems until you get some real endgame gear. You change out gear so quickly right now, the costs of not only making the gems, but removing them will add up quick. I removed one from my weapon and it cost like 250k only to find out the weapon I thought would be an upgrade wasn't, so I had to remove it from that weapon. Now, that isn't a big deal for me, but for someone who started the expansion with only a few million, this would be a killer.

Good god. Roll off some of that toughness. You're not going to use those items for t6 so why set the toughness that high?

I've spent 600+ blood shards trying to get a legendary wizard source now. At 5 shards a pop, that's over 125 failures. They supposedly increased the chances for legendaries to come via gambling too.

I think I've gotten all of your legendary gambles, I never added up how many I've used but I've gotten 3-4 legendarys over a few hundred shards. :awe:

Not surprising. When just getting drops from killing guys you may drop upwards of a thousand things (most of which may just be gold, but the chance is there for any item) before you get a legendary.

600? I've spent well over 1000 (I've been maxed out twice and have spent all of them) and not a single legendary. I read the chance is like 0.5%, so you could have another 75 to go. And since each gamble is independent of the others, you could spend 10,000 without a single "win".
