Cool thanks for the advice Cappuccino. I need to find that legendary ingredient for the reapers wraps. I have the plan and the white bracers just need that.

I switch between arcane torrent and disintegrate as my main damage dealer as mood strikes. To me neither feels like it does significantly better damage but I prefer how disintegrate works overall so I use it more often.

The material drops off Malthael (as does the pattern), and it seems to have a decent drop rate. I've killed him maybe 8-10 times and I've gotten it twice so far. Although, I also have the pattern (but not the material) for Kethrye's Spirit, which is a similar bracer. It just has another random bonus instead of the specific one. I guess I just can't figure how good the random resource restoration would be. Health globes spawn kind of randomly, and I may not always be able to grab it until the battle is over.

Although, I know Barbarians have talents that raise the globe spawn rate.

So, I got my Monk to 70 over the weekend, and something has been bothering me. I'm not sure if this is odd, but I can't seem to find an off-hand weapon that doesn't lower my DPS over using a shield. It probably doesn't help that the shield that I'm using has pretty decent stats for a shield. I did find a yellow fist weapon that had great stats for its rarity (+damage, +%damage, etc.), but it couldn't beat it without using a gem. Isn't the only penalty for using a 1H+Shield that I gain less Spirit? If that's the case, I use so little Spirit (especially considering the -24% cost reduction from my chest) that it probably doesn't matter.

I also tried my first Rift last night, and I have to say... at first, I was really disappointed. My goodness... I was so bored. The rift was mostly built using Act III assets, and I started off in this huge, snowy expanse that had such a poor mob density that I barely found anything to fight! Honestly, one of my biggest complaints about Diablo III is probably how large some of the zones are. These games are nicknamed "dungeon crawlers" for a reason, Blizzard!! Anyway, part 2 was built from that banished zone's assets, and part 3 was from frost cave assets. Those were fine as they're a lot tighter and the mob density was far better (albeit part 3 was a little sparser than I'd like).

I switched over to the Barbarian for a bit to help clean up my bank, and after playing my Monk all weekend, I really missed my mobility. Using Dashing Strike is just awesome on a Monk. I'm not sure if it's clear in the tooltip or not, but it moves through everything except for static dungeon walls. It will easily remove you from a Jailer's ability and can go right through a Waller's wall. I'm pretty sure I even went through an Act V gate at one point, but I have a feeling that's not intended. It's also nice because you can easily remove yourself from the multiple frozen AoEs. Even if they explode during your travel time, it will not affect you because you don't actually dash... you teleport.

I did a T1 rift a few days ago where we fought the rift guardian within sight of the original entrance on level 1. It was nothing but enemies packing the entire screen, we fought 5 elites at once, and had it cleared in a few minutes.

You can go through walls, as long as that wall doesn't have a blocking door somewhere between you and the adjacent room/hall in the way that needs to be open or broken (think A3 keep areas). Gates are a different story and you can go right through them or the adjacent, barred area near them (think Cathedral areas).

It's amazing how much stuff you can skip with DS and how life saving it can be. I've enjoyed being able to cut out several boring seconds of walking around keep layouts and having to walk around and up stairs, as well as being able to instantly dash to safety out of frozen or a very hot area. Walking is so passe now.

What's hilarious now, is the fact that FoT isn't a teleport any more. It's a physical dash, which is restricted by typical objects you'd think were meant for dashing... The irony.

So, I finally got a Cain's set on with decent stats. Between that 50%, the 41% ruby gem in helm, the old 35% hellfire ring, and the 30% Leoric's, the exp rolls in so fast now. It's beautiful.

I have to admit, the 50% MF bonus from Cain's has certainly improved the amount of rares that drop. Instead of seeing 50/50 blues and yellows, it's around 90% yellows now. As for legendaries, I can't say for certain if it's helped. From what I can tell, I have noticed that the dry spells are far shorter than they were. Instead of playing for 6 hours and not seeing a single legendary, it's only 1-2. Then again, the buff to legendary drop rates in Rifts may have something to do with that as well. We'll see how it plays out while simply farming bounties.

I highly recommend the Cain's set until you've completed finding an end game set for your class. Between the 8% IAS and 50% MF/EXP bonus, the stats on the pieces aren't worse than anything else.

FYI, the Countess Julia's Cameo is going to spoil me. Now I purposefully find the lasers and sit on their pivot points to become invulnerable. If I can just reroll my CD higher than 53%, that'd be great. ^^

Isn't all that exp bonus additive?

ie, at T6 your exp is normally 1600%. With cain's set it'd be 1650%.

That's correct. The exp bonus from difficulties is only additive, not multiplicative any more. Same as having additional players in the game.

Even so, that's more reason - to me - to bump exp as much as you can and farm a lower level difficulty at a much faster pace, than a higher level difficulty at a slower one.

Granted, if I find items that boost my DPS/survivability vastly more compared to these exp bonus items, I'll use them. I can comfortably run T2 as-is, and T3 with a shield, but it's much, much slower than T1. So I'll continue farming on T1 until vastly superior items are found (very unlikely at this point, since those items are pretty decent for my monk).

I played six hours this weekend in T3, 1 leg ammy for follower ... I think I am done for good now.

Where did you play?

I'm starting to lean towards the same fence though. I've spent many hours trying to farm a specific item and it just never drops or gambles for me. There is only so much beating I can take.

Played just long enough to do half of one bounty on my monk, even got an orange mace.


From what I've read, if you're just farming for items don't think there is much reason to go about T1. Seems the special triggers are built in when going from master to T1 and above that is just some additional chance mathematics which should be evened out if you can mow down T1 content.

I think there may be some truth to that, but at the same time I value fun more than anything else. Personally I have more fun playing in higher difficulties where there's actually some danger

Still can't get a Ring of Royal Grandeur to drop for me though, been doing a few full A1 bounties each day. It's pretty ridiculous, my barb friend is using one and because of it has an effective 4 piece IK, 3 piece Blackthorne and 3 piece Aughild all at once.

That sounds like fun... and a bit scary! :$ I've mostly just been playing on normal to get gear, but I decided to spice things up a bit last night and play on Expert on my Monk. The rift certainly wasn't that quick, but it was a lot nicer than the first one I did. It was mostly based off dungeon assets from what I can recall (pandemonium fortress, zultan kuul dungeons, cursed tower). My only complaint about using my Monk is that my build lacks any sort of ultimate ability as I'm currently using Mystic Ally. I use the fire variant, which buffs me by 10% and also gains my 39% fire damage bonus. I also gain an additional 5% damage from Unity for it.

Speaking of Unity, I got a ring last night that summons a treasure goblin that picks up white quality items. Does that count toward Unity? I can't really tell since Mystic Ally counts and he doesn't show up on my UI anywhere.

You know what's really fun? When you get the cost removal buff in a rift! Dashing Strike doesn't use charges anymore, which means you can zip around as much as you please! :awe:

Hmm I figured you couldn't go through most walls because I always got stuck on them. Albeit, I wasn't dashing at them in a perpendicular fashion. I just sort of ran into the wall or stair cases. One thing I also do is switch Dashing Strike to Barrage for boss fights. In most fights, I don't normally need the extra charge from Quicksilver, and the added DPS is nice.

I do too DW, now that I'm at about half a million on the wiz, was doing (2 so I can collect the increased gold drop rate since I'm soo poor.

Apparently, I was king of the crossbows yesterday. I found 5 legendary hand cross bows in probably around 3 hours of playtime last night. One happened to be a Nat's set x-bow with 9% +dmg and a socket. Thankfully, I rerolled the elemental damage and got an instant 2700 DPS cross bow!

Physical damage. It was like 900-1400 Cold damage and I rerolled it a few times to get a good black damage roll, so the +dmg percent applied to it properly. Since it already had a socket and dex, it was perfect for doing that.

Oh nice. So is the +dmg% affix bugged right now to only affect physical/black dmg?

Assuming you have a socketed weapon already, should you switch out +elemental dmg for physical if you have the +dmg% affix?

Yes, currently, it is bugged. Blizzard has stated the +dmg% will eventually work for all damage types, but right now it is only working for black damage.

Yes.

Assuming you have a socketed weapon already, should you switch out +elemental dmg for physical if you have the +dmg% affix?

What other magical properties does the weapon have? All you're really doing is locking down a potentially long-term weapon's only source of modification (apart from the gem choice) to a stat that won't need to be changed once the bug is fixed. So, once the bug is fixed, you're then stuck with something you may not use like "% Resource Reduction".

Nope. Killed Malthael 9 times yesterday and didn't get that damn material.

And yea, finding Malthael is a pain. I finally just got tired of running that route. I was running master, and killing was easy. Finding him was a pain.

Still debating between those and the splint. I can see how the globe resource restoration would be nice during rifts -- especially if you get a dense enemy population -- but probably not so great during boss fights. I would really love +19% fire damage on my Monk though. I think my bracers only give me +11% right now.

Topaz (Intellect) and Ruby (Strength) respectively.

Although, I've found sockets to be next to worthless in anything but a helm or weapons. I'd much rather have something like +5% crit chance than +60 strength.
