That's cool, but I do feel like it could just be a matter of time (time -> gear that is). Like I remember Hell difficulty Ancients on D2 were a bitch and a half. At first. Then with a few more levels and gear under my belt it wasn't nearly so troublesome.

I guess I'm wondering how it's been balanced with regards to how player power will gradually inflate, but who knows.

Max level is 60, which you should be at by the end of Hell. The mobs get stronger each act in Inferno. For an idea of the increase of difficulty between modes:

Inferno is a new difficulty added to the Diablo franchise through Diablo III.
Inferno is the last difficulty for Diablo III.
Players must be level 60 to access Inferno.
Inferno is intended as the end game content for Diablo III. (Source)
Inferno has been scaled way up with monsters showing increases in health and damage around 6 - 7 times that of Hell difficulty. (Source)
After initial testing where testers felt Inferno was challenging enough, the doubled the difficulty.
During the time of internal testing, not a single tester was able to clear Inferno. (Source)
Monsters in Act 1 are level 61, in Act 2 - 62 and in Acts 3 and 4 - 63. And each of those have Tier items that ONLY they drop - so a total of 3 Tiers in Inferno. (Source)
However, these tiers are primarily significant to the look of the armor. (Source)
Along with more difficult monsters, Inferno will also have enrage counters on elite monsters.
Enrage timers are an unseen amount of time to kill the monster before the monster gets an additional challenge to defeat them. (Source)
Enraged monsters can gain things from added health, additional damage, and more powerful spells.

Accursed
Normal - Level 20 - 66-131 HP - 50min damage per hit
Nightmare - Level 41 - 934-1867 HP - 542min damage per hit
Hell - Level 56 - 5480-11K HP - 3075min damage per hit
Inferno - Level 62 - 28k-56k HP - 26k min damage per hit

I would say the increase in difficulty is SUBSTANTIAL. And sure, eventually you'll be so powerful it might not be as difficult, but I would not brush off Inferno mode at all...

I would say the increase in difficulty is SUBSTANTIAL. And sure, eventually you'll be so powerful it might not be as difficult, but I would not brush off Inferno mode at all...

I wasn't aware of those details, requiring max level to reach it is a sound idea. I guess it comes down to how crazy player gear scaling gets, that's definitely interesting however. Any indication of how time consuming/relaxed levelling becomes? I remember D2 up to about 90 wasn't bad, but those last 9-10 levels were pretty long.

People ripping this game apart, the reviews are horrible.

I just played a few minutes - but

* no character customization
* no stats etc.
* just pure hack & slash

The general opinion (according to metacritic)...they killed Diablo, it's the WORST game ever with the ****iest graphics and only made so blizzard can make more money.

Again..the critics are ripping this game apart.

Edit: I do not WANT to blindly join all the negative people (seeing that i just paid $140 for two fricking copies....but i must say that the lack of character customization is a HUUUUUUUGE , huge negative for me. For me, especially for an RPG, character customization is extremely important.

I am actually stunned that one of the most anticipated games EVER, the "icon" of RPGs so to speak has no character customization.

I have to agree to a certain extent. I'm stunned that when I level up I can't choose strength/intelligence/dexterity upgrades, it just gives me whatever the cookie cutter class wants.

Came home for lunch break to hopefully get in 30 mins or so and was getting the same error. Lots of people were saying the same in chat. Guessing now that it's midday, they're getting slammed hard with players.

It is kind of odd that there is no character customization, but you typically end up covering up yourself (over time) with gear anyway.

I thought the customization came in the form of armor and runes. That seems normal to me. A little less than D2 but I can live with it. In fact, I personally almost prefer it. However, I have not played the game yet.

That's why I don't really care about character customization, gear will cover you up and as you play, you focus more on the surroundings than stand there examining your character.

Also, is there a hardcore mode like in Diablo 2 where if you die, you're perma dead?

Reviewers got to play the game at the same time we did (i.e. a few hours ago) so any site with a review up already is full of it.

As far as your other comment about character customization, do you really miss being able to put points into a grand total of 4 stats? Is it the fact that you could never change it after setting it what makes it "custom"? From what I've seen, I think the changes from 2 to 3 in this area are much better.

Yes. You also get a "hall of heroes" section or something so you can go back and look at all your HC characters who have perished. Neat touch.

HC characters are completely separate from regular characters, you can't trade your stash between the two. Also, any gear you have on your HC character when you die is gone, forever.

The breaking news section embedded in the start game menu says they're down for an hour.

I've played the monk for 3 hours or so and have been having fun. After using the auction house I'm now wondering why the merchants even bother selling items. It's just easier to buy the exact items you want from the auctions.

But its not an RPG, its a hack-n-slash, always has been. Im not buying this whole "The general opinion (according to metacritic)...they killed Diablo, it's the WORST game ever with the ****iest graphics and only made so blizzard can make more money." thing, sounds a little too video game hipster to me. Blizzard is a huge famous company, its cool to say they suck. Then I actually go and play the beta and find it quite enjoyable.
