I managed to get quite a bit of time on the PTR this weekend. Managed to play around with new Barb pieces (both with the set and new pants and ring), new Monk pieces and changes, and new DH set.

Really like the Monk changes...will still be a difficult decision on utilizing new Inna's bonuses or simply going with the tried and true stuff that works.

I'm a little flip-floppy on the Barb stuff. I liked the new pants that give all runes to WotB and the new ring that ups WW damage...although you are faced with the conundrum of sacrificing either RoRG or SoJ to do it. It works well with the new IK 2-pc set bonus and Raekor's set bonus.

I tried the new Barb Rend/WW set and didn't feel like it felt good...didn't seem to synergize well. It could have been me and not having optimal gear in the other equipment slots and/or not having the right skills working together. It just seemed a little slow and clunky compared to other options.

The new Wiz changes in equipment looks to give them a real place now...in some groups I definately saw the Wiz out-damaging almost everyone no matter what build they were using...even M6 DH's, tricked out Barbs, and the ever-lovable Swiss Army Knife Monk.

...The reworked tal rasha set won't be retroactive, so I can finally dump all the tal rasha gear I'd saved and the other junk as well...

Where did you hear this? Past set item changes have been retroactive and I haven't seen anything to indicate otherwise.

I hope you didn't salvage those tal's pieces yet!

Hit 207 this week, gear is crappy but cleared a 27 grift easily on my barb.

Raekors is going to be really annoying at higher levels solo.

Dunno if I wanna go with miranae over efficious toxin when solo.

Question about the Paragon Utilisty skill called Area Damage:

Is this worth investing points in it?
Does it proc off Rend and Cleave Barabrian abilities?

I know that you have a flat chance of doing area damage off each attacks you do (is that still the case), my guess is that it's only affecting that stat?

I leveled up Cooldown Reduction first, then Area Damage.

Life on hit then gold if you got there ehehe.

I spent all my points in LoH since everything else was not giving me any bonus at all. Maybe plus Gold but I don't seem to convince myself it's a good place to spend those points...maybe when i'm Paragon 300+.

Cooldown Reduction...you mean Cost Reduction?
Cause if it was Cooldown i'd be all over that.

Any good buffs for WD in PTR? They need to rework helltooth. Maybe run it like DH M6. Wall of Zombie casts zombie charger or something. That would be awesome. WD mana spenders need a buff.

you're right it is resource! Brainfart on my part!

Life on hit would be useful but the gem *insert name here* has a base of 10K life per sec makes this paragon option obsolete IMHO.

From what I've read on the bnet forums, it is only the Firebirds 2 piece bonus that will change (from +500 int to whatever it shows now). The six piece bonus will stay the same.

Or did you mean something else?

It's funny - I played a lot on my season wizard this weekend and hit paragon 80 or so (EU, pub games), and I found an ancient chantodo's with 2800 dps raw (with a slot). If I can find a rgift I can roll the socket to + damage, right, and then use the gift to add the slot again? With that alone my wizard on season seems much stronger than my normal one (with over 300 paragon). RNGesus, I know, but it's insane that with a weekend of playing I could have a better wizard than I have as my main and sunk hundreds of hours into.

Basically, I'm gearing towards firebirds on the season, and hope to level my gems like crazy (toxin, powerful, and zei's), then go back to the normal character and jump up in progression that way as well. The reworked tal rasha set won't be retroactive, so I can finally dump all the tal rasha gear I'd saved and the other junk as well.

Sorry to keep asking, but are there any regular EU players on here? As far as I know, the anandtech clan on EU is dead due to inactivity (spoke to Capuccino about this a while ago) but I'm always looking for other players to have fun with.

Ah, the way it reads, I thought they removed the 6pc bonus.

Finally got a string of ears and it was an ancient and rolled pretty well! Time to try a little solo progression.

I tried to do the season thing. Had a buddy plevel my wd in a matter of an hour or so to get from 0 - p40 or so. However, I miss my fully geared non- season too much. It's hard to play WD with out any pet gear or jade gear.. arrrgghh.

Ok, yesterday's runs were pretty great. Got some nice loot from Kadala and Rifts. Got an ancient Skorn, Ancient Bracers and Ancient Belt, all upgrades.

I played with my gear, stats and gems and I ditch 30% of my Toughness to get around 50% more Damage. But for that I had to dust many leg/set items I had in my chest, because that b**** Mystic was a b****, not great pieces though so it's not that bad of a loss.

I've gone from 660K/20M to 995K/14M.

I'm also starting the slow grind for better gear. I'll log tonight for a some time if I can stop player Darkest Dungeon lol...

Does it proc off Rend and Cleave Barabrian abilities?

It can proc off of anything that does damage as far as I know. Usually it's better to put points into cost reduction first regardless of what you're doing. However, if you're playing as part of a group where a monk or a barb can gather enemies and you have big nukes, Area Damage can add up in a hurry.

For example, let's assume that there are 10 monsters stacked up on top of each other in such a fashion that the splash from any of them can hit any other. On average we expect 2 of them to trigger the area damage effect, which at 50% damage each amounts to doing twice the damage to the entire pack.

If you're playing solo or don't have someone to group the enemies it's far less valuable.

Ah, the way it reads, I thought they removed the 6pc bonus.

No it's still around, but considering most FB wizards didn't use a signature spell before, I don't know how much of a buff the set will actually be as adding a signature spell means removing some other spender or dropping a defensive or utility spell.

The changes to Tal's make it incredible both in terms of potential damage output and in terms of playability. FB set results in a rather bland style of play to me, where as Tal's promotes a lot more involvement in terms of managing cooldowns, buff stacks, and other aspects of the class, which if done well results in some massive damage potential, similar to what a DH can accomplish.

Rhezuss is playing a barb so the first thing I would max is Area Damage... then Life on hit.

I will check that tonight, thanks.

I currently wear a lot of +Lightning Damage gear and my skills reflect that bonus. I'd like some opinions on my build guys, from experienced Barbarians. It's my first Barb and I really like the class and I also really like my skill choices since i'm having a lot of fun with this build.

But some skills are on cooldown or need my main ressource at max to be at their best so that leaves me with some downtime between my more powerful skills.

Here's what I use:

ACTIVE
- LMB: Cleave/Broad Sweep (lightning dmg)
- RMB: Rend/Lacerate (lightning dmg)
- 1: Revenge/Retribution (fire dmg) which I might replace with Best Served Cold (cold dmg)
- 2: Avalanche/Volcano (fire dmg)
- 3: Ancient Spear/Boulder Toss
- 4: Wrath of the Berserker/Insanity

PASSIVE
- Ruthless
- Berserker Rage
- Animosity
- Unforgiving

What I am looking for with this is the Boulder Toss in synergy with Animosity and Unforgiving (plus the Paragon sta that gives +Fury) for an "insane" amount of Fury to spend on Boulder Toss will forl lots of damage.

Avalanche with it's 4400% weapon damage over 5 second every 30 seconds is working great and the cooldown is reduces when you spend Fury.

WotB don't need no explanation

Revenge...I might replace this skill for something more useful. But the healing and damage provided by this is really useful but the procs are random.

Rend...that might be the first I replace even though I have lots of lightning damage bonus and Rend/Lacerate at 700% weapon damage is pretty neat. I might replace Rend for something else and change a Passive for a more defensive one to compensate, like Superstition. I might also switch to DW when I stumble on some nice ancient 1H weapons.

I don't want a Whirlwind build, I tried it and I found it boring.

What do you guys think about my build, any changes you would make?

With the new changes barbarian IMO is way tankier than Crusader now. You don't need every slot to have CDR with barb for perma wrath with 50% damage reduction (which scales with damage way better than 150% more armor) and those extra slots can be used for all res or more damage mods.

Crusader is going to be the second worse class in 2.2, next to Wizard lol.

Tal's definitely looks interesting, I'm always up for multiple play styles. Ideally there is one for each damage type, and then a combo one.

Looks like my memory is failing me, I didn't have lots of +lightning dmg gear on lol.

I switched some active and passive skills and changed many things. My Barb seem a lot more effective and powerful now with this build:

ACTIVE
- LMB: Weapon Throw/Ricochet
- RMB: Hammer of the Ancients/Rolling Thunder
- 1: Earthquake/Mountain's Call
- 2: Avalanche/Volcano (fire dmg)
- 3: Ancient Spear/Boulder Toss
- 4: Wrath of the Berserker/Insanity

PASSIVE
- Earthen Might
- Boon of Bul-Kathos
- Animosity
- Unforgiving

It feels quite right!

I bought reaper of souls this Sunday, and started back on my lvl 60 DH. Got to lvl 70, got to lvl 62 paragon today, and I'm feeling bored of this game already.

It feels like the game is just repetitive, doing bounties/rifts over and over again to get better items so that I can grind tougher rifts to gain better items, etc..

Any advice?

do it in a group.

And try a different class? The other classes are fun too (though DHs do kick major bootay). Some of the set items have really cool bonuses for having 2+ pieces of the set. The bonuses can give a nice alternate gameplay style that keeps things interesting.

You do have it summed up pretty well though: all the numbers just keep getting bigger. That part gets boring quickly, but the different/unique play styles and abilities offered by various pieces of gear can keep things fresh(ish).
