I need information on the collector's edition, stat! What sort of useless things that I'll never use will my $30 go toward this time!

While there's a good chance I'll get D3, I think I'm done with Blizzard CEs, and I have every one they released since D2. Just not as much of a fan of the company anymore : (

I still feel bummed that I never bought vanilla WoW's collector's edition. I remember seeing it there on the shelf (vanilla and TBC were released when WoW wasn't that popular), but I didn't know if I would keep playing.

Ditto. I've been holding off on pre-ordering the game so that I could get the CE. Diablo 3 is worth $100 to me without even thinking.

I want into the beta so badly!!!

Just so we're all clear: I would do unspeakably terrible things for the release of Diablo 3 tomorrow.

Just sayin'

I have nothing but dread for this game. D2 was such a great and important part of my college life that D3 will almost certainly tarnish the epicness that are my fond remembrances of D2. Of course, if it does live up to the hype that will be truly amazing.

Blizzard could manage to tarnish their current and future image to me, but there's no way they could tarnish the epicness of D2 in my mind. D2 is easily my favorite game ever...there's plenty of epic games that overshadow D2 in certain respects, but I never had as much continuous fun with a game as I did with D2--even with the bugs/duping/other problems it had.

Up until last month, I've done really well in keeping away from the "latest" D3 news, knowing things are going to continue to change, etc, and until we have a release date there's no reason to worry about it all. Then some dudes here at Anandtech had to start a couple of threads mentioning the beta announcement and stuff, and as of 2 weeks ago I found myself playing D2 again after 5 years from being Diablo-anxious. It's still as fun as it ever was.

As someone who's currently a late-addict to Titan's Quest, how does D3 stack up? I really like the great variation that TQ has in character classes. The mix-and-match of skills gives it a lot of replay value. Torchlight, on the other hand, didn't cut it for me. I lost interest because there wasn't a lot of character build variation.

We don't have enough info yet to really make that kind of comparison. We're getting good info from the F&F beta, but it's very limited...only a little over an hour's worth of gameplay if you don't dally around, a hard level cap of 13 (out of 60), and they even left the runes (and gems I guess?) out of the current build.

There's no skill points or stat points to allocate. Instead, each class has access to all the class skills (20-25ish) by level 30ish with (I think) up to 8 bound at any one time (3 on mouse, 6 on skill bar). Each skill can have a rune attached to it which gives it some kind of extra ability or boost, and there are 5 types of runes. So there are plenty of possibilities for different builds, but we don't have any info on how and if it works out yet.

That just sounds like guildwars to me with all the skills being available and only a few can be used at a time.

Just so I could have a chance to get in the beta, I purchased the D2 Battle Chest for the 6th time. (I do not have any other Blizzard games).

I once again realized why I stopped playing. I have averaged 5 hours a day playing. My wife wants to kill me.

Look, I *LOVE* the Diablo franchise. That said, I don't think either of D1/D2 are games that are especially fun to watch other people play (aside from a few moments and boss fights). As much as I am highly anticipating D3, I'm not all that interested in watching much gameplay footage.

Some games are great fun even when you're only a spectator. Diablo = not so much.

i'd be bored if i watched someone play <insert game here> on justin.tv for a couple of hours.

diablo 2 is easily one of the best games i've ever played. if they released more expansion packs for diablo 2, it'd probably be more popular than WoW.

How does Diablo 3 = WoW?

I keep hearing this, but I don't get it, and nobody will explain it. They don't look similar to me at all (besides both being RPGs).

It's probably because Diablo 3 requires you to be online and a lot of stuff is controlled by the server. Personally, I don't care much... it's the price you pay to avoid cheating.

Except for in WoW all the gear you get is BOP and can't be traded and you only get to run the dungeon's once a week/day.

Diablo is to video games what slot machines are to old people.

You keep doing monster runs for that next great drop, you never know what you might get next. Thats what kept me comign back. The fact that if something great drops and I can't use it, but someone else can I can trade for something useful to myself, and in the case of D3, I can sell it for real money if I want to.

D3 is going to be more like a slot machine than you probably think. Anyone who thinks they won't have to put more money in than they get out of D3 without extreme luck is delluding themselves.

It all depends on what you want out of it. I don't play D3 (well, using D2 as a reference) for PvP or ladders. I played D2 to chillax with my friends or un-wind after a long day. Same with plenty of other players. If you aren't looking to be the biggest baddest Witch Doctor on the block there isn't any reason for you to invest cash on items if you don't want to.

Yes, but if you have an internet connection that is all oblivious to the player.

If you just sat down and played D3, and then sat down and played some WoW, I can't see how you can call them the same game.
