For mass death and destruction, the monk is really the top dawg. Spec yourself around mass AoE damage and you can basically run in and mash buttons and everything dies. I'm enjoying my monk so far.

I just unlocked crippling wave, and I like it when I use it with blinding flash. I do miss the teleporting from fists of thunder though.

For my main attack, I've been using Deadly Reach with Piercing Trident. At level 29, I have 260dps and I 1-shot most trash mobs with it.

My rightclick is bound to Lashing Tail Kick with Vulture Claw rune...great for when you're surrounded...high damage 360-degree AoE with knockback and DoT.

My 1 key is bound to Seven Sided Strike w/ Sudden Assault rune...which is basically my "Oh Shit" button. 1000% damage for seven strikes with immunity, and teleports me to the enemy.

My 2 key is Dashing Strike with Flying Side Kick rune. Good closer which teleports me to target, roots, and stuns target. Not much damage, but very useful.
Especially against mage-type mobs, flyers, treasure mobs, and those Fallen Sorcerers in Act 3.

My 3 key is Breath of Heaven with Circle of Scorn. I don't use this that much, so I might change it. It's the heal (which is quite effective) and Circle of Scorn adds AoE damage to it.

My 4 key is Mantra of Evasion with Hard Target rune. Adds 15% evasion + 20% armor. Hugely useful for survivability.

The two passives I'm using are Transcendence which is AMAZING...it heals me whenever I use a skill...and Seize the Initiative which increases my armor by 100% of my dexterity.

I've got over 1k armor and a lot of evasion. My health is a bit low (~1500), but I have great damage mitigation. I use the Enchanter as my companion and she's got a ranged damage mitigation spell which is hugely useful as well.

I've died 3 times, and all 3 times were because I was stupid. The first were from those damn trees in Act 1...t
hey spit out those flowers that do like 100dps

Belial killed me because I didn't realize what those glowing green circles were and that you need to run around to avoid them stacking on you
. And, in Act 3, those stupid
exploding green mobs got me once when I ran into a room
.

Overall survivability is very good. My effectiveness against a single target is a bit lower than a barb or a wizard, but against groups, there's no comparison!

Also, somebody already bought the Unique I put on the AH. Probably already posted it for resale at a 50x markup for what I sold it. Either way, I made my money.

Yeah, I had a legendary drop and its stats were all crap, if it was just a magical item I would have vendor'd it but I knew someone would buy it because it's a legendary. The cheapest on the AH for it at the time was 15k, I put it up for 9k and it sold in a few hours lol.

I think I might actually drop Transcendence on my Monk... I rarely use Spirit, which makes it a waste. I use the Thousand Fists + Sweeping Winds ability, and Sweeping Winds can be fairly easily sustained for a long period of time. Even destroying barrels will keep it up. Most of my Spirit is spent on the Dash move.

It also took that passive that extends the duration of your mantras... mostly for the spirit regeneration. I noticed that using the Thousand Fists tends to leave me rather low on Spirit. It wasn't uncommon to leave a fight with less than half left. Although, that was also when I was using the weird bell move.

Although, right now, I've been making "alts" because my stash is full of super awesome gear to give to them. I can't afford the 100,000 gold to buy a new tab... yet.

EDIT:

Thinking about it... I ought to just make mules. It only takes a minute or two to get to your stash after making a character.

I want to eventually make a Melee char, either a barb or a monk. Anyone fairly far in the game with either and tell me which do better?

Its funny reading some peoples comments because ive seen many say the monk is the weakest char in the game and others who seem to dominate with them.

Not really...

Hydra does almost nothing in nightmare cooped with 4 people... Running around like a crazy person is a good way to die in nightmare/hell/inferno. Wizard is actually fairly hard the higher you go cause you die so very fast. Hit a mob that pulls you to them and then freezes and teleports to you. Yeah, dead(unless you have diamond shield available).

I do over 900 damage with my Wiz in nightmare and its still impossible to dish out tons of damage on mobs with 4 person coop.

Wiz and Demon Hunter seem to have the same weaknesses. I play a DH and I am a glass cannon. I'm solo playing through NM right now and if I am not careful I can be 1 shotted by the elite mobs. Thankfully DH has the cheese ability called Smoke Screen, I refrained from using it on normal because it makes things way to easy heh.

I have been pretty happy with my Barb thus far. I am level 25, part way through Act 3 (Normal). I have been lucky and have almost all rare gear, and have just a bit over 2400 life. Which has been a huge help since I don't run a shield.

I have been using frenzy while dual wielding with a set of rare swords (Gemed with rubies). I also use Whirl Wind for right click, and then Revenge, Leap, and Battle Rage. Oh and Call of the Ancients. I was using earth Quake, but in Act 3 having the three other barbs takes a lot of heat off me in big mobs. So seems to work well.

Only had like 30 minutes to play this morning before going back to yard work but got skele down and 2 rares off of him, one of which was a wand so my wiz gets to drop the sword for now. Between being busy and playing completest should take me a decent time to finish a complete go through.

I soloed through hell doing that, esp making bosses a joke with venom hydra, that and orb with chain lightning variants. fyi I had almost 15k health by the end of nightmare so living through most elite packs was no problem up until mid to late hell.

Venom hydra huh? Those actually seem very weak because most of their dmg comes from what they spew on ground. The arcane hydra are better from what I can tell.

I know but, solo is noob mood, just like it was in D2. Anything is possible solo. Play with 4 people and things get more interesting.

What follower are you guys using? I've just been keeping the templar, mostly because he automatically heals me when my health is getting low. I think I've used about 3 potions, and I'm in act 2.

So far, I'm not really liking Act 2, though I'm not very far into it. I just don't like the enemies very much. I'm also noticing a considerable jump in difficulty. I breezed through Act 1.

templar for healing as well.

I was a bit disappointed that the enchantress didn't have any healing options.

venom hydra isnt the best for open area or something like that, but the effect stacks with itself so instead of doing 300 per sec, it will do 1000 per sec per hydra, its great for bosses or monsters that clump together and not move. Also its great indoors where packs are condensed and you can funel in a narrow alley. Multiplayer is another beast but the point still stands. I do use arcane hydra for outdoor pqcks but change my whole setup for indoor groups.

Well, I finished playing the game on normal. Didn't really expect it to end as quickly as it did. Never felt like an epic ending, more of just another boss and it was over

Oh and don't expect any great gear for winning the final battle.

monks have a self heal and an invulnerability and a disorient, + do a ton of AOE damage, IDK how it is on the harder difficulties but on normal you basically cant die

Lvl 58 Wizard on late A2 Hell. 6400 dps/27k life

Brick wall time. Since the mobs chase you forever, once you aggro an elite pack you can't handle, you are screwed. No progressing if you can't kill something you have to.

And the elites in Hell... Fast Mortar Waller Jailers and Vampiric Vortex Minion Immunity's... it's freaking ridiculous. Imagine being walled in, spammed mortars on... only to barely escape and be jailed and killed. Or being sucked into the pack where you can only damage the boss of the pack (minions are immune to all damage), and they life leech.

Not digging the loot so much anymore also... it's all random number items; not a set or unique to be found, and the legendaries are for the most part laughably worthless.

I have a 59 Barb which is going to most likely be rerolled. I am looking ahead and all I am seeing are Barbs tanking on inferno while doing no dps. I rolled a Barb to kill stuff with and this severely lacks. It is aggrevating to play a lot and talking with a Wizard friend, Barbs tank on inferno and res people in groups. This is not what I wanted out of my Barb in Diablo 3.

Blizzard managed to do what nobody else could, make a WoW clone. The only thing this game is lacking is a fifth party slot and straight healer and you have a perfect inferno group.

I was watching the stream for inferno Diablo and they used two tanks (barb and monk) to go with two dps (wizard and witch doctor). The Monk can do some dps and tank but the barb becomes a laughable damage dealer in groups.

I am debating between a WD and Wizard.

Difficulty:
Normal < Nightmare <<<<<< Hell

My friends tell me Inferno Act 1 isn't bad that Act 2 just gets ridiculous.

Wow, that was fun. Started a game that was glitched, I couldn't go anywhere or interact with anything so I decided to quit...except it wouldn't let me quit. It wouldn't let me leave the game or even quit D3 so I had to go to my desktop and kill the program. Very weird...
