Welp, add me to the list of 'compromised' accounts. Logged in after work to a naked and gutted level 47 Monk. Kind of mind boggling as I really didn't have good items, or a lot of gold, but everything was gone (even the potions and vendor garbage I remembered left in my inventory). I can only assume they simply sell any junk to a vendor before transferring all the gold and items.
I guess I should have followed some of these threads closer (got the game last Friday evening) because it's apparently happening to a lot of people. I hadn't given much thought to the Blizzard authenticator, but it's all configured now. Before coming here I sent in my support ticket to get a roll back on my character. Last I really played was Monday evening, though I checked the auction house briefly yesterday. I still had armor and gold on my character last night, so within the last 24 hours something happened.
The one thing I'm concerned about now is regarding the coming RMAH and the current gold AH. I had an auction listed undercutting similar stuff at 80k+ gold that would have ended sometime today with a lower bid amount. Through the support process I see Blizzard states they'll roll you back 2 times from a compromised account, then no more support for lost items. And with that, the 2nd roll back bars any access to the real money auction house. They could have a mess on their hands if there's a security hole being exploited to hijack accounts not using the Blizzard authenticator. Say what you will, but I'm sure there's a ton of casual players like me who initially scoff at multi-step/device security for a game(!). I haven't bought a Blizzard game since Diablo II so I was completely out of the loop about the authenticator.
So, it looks like this evening I'll be finishing a book rather than slaying demons.
