This is the real question, and I'll believe the quote you posted as I have no reason not to, and I haven't been able to test it myself. That really is a major factor to look at when buying an item from the auction house.

I'm betting for spells, at least, he's wrong. Most of my weapon's damage is +fire, but I'm one shotting many mobs on Hell Act 1, and the damage estimate on my character screen is 6.5k.

I would assume it factors into skill/spell damage. But try to find a weapon with similar DPS but without fire damage. Put it on and see the difference in your damage

wow i need a better build, my venom hydra/blizzard combo is not working due to how slow the wizard is, that or i need +% to movement armor pieces lol

inferno is brutal once you come on a pack of champions, the bosses aren't a problem

hmm, don't like reading that. That's my build, although I'm only at the end of nightmare.

I'm using cold-blooded and I wanted to go all frost, so originally I used the frost hydra which apparently gets the extra 20%. However, the forums are pretty clear that the slowdown from ice storm makes the poison hydra very powerful because the mobs will stand in the poison.

Right now I'm running
left-click - Ray of Frost - Cold Blood
right-click - Blizzard - Frozen Solid
1 - Frost Nova - Cold Snap
2 - Hydra - Venom Hydra
3 - Familiar - Sparkflint
4 - Mirror Image - Duplicates
Passives: Evocation, Astral Presence

About the inventory thing, sheesh guys. The shared stash is an awesome addition, I have no complaints about it, and people can use it however they want.

The only responses to keyed's post were misinterpretations. I wanted to clarify it, because I thought it was a good idea. I didn't say it was a big deal or needed but surely you don't disagree that it would be nice to be able to manage all inventories from 1 screen? It even seems to go along with the dev team's mentality of reducing uneeded steps and inventory management issues (less inventory tetris, no more scrolls/charms/etc you carry around that takes up inventory space, shared stash, and more). I'll go give support to the idea on the main forums and go on enjoying the game. Maybe they'll consider it for the future (expansions) or maybe they even already threw out the idea for whatever reason.

I absolutely don't manage my inventories like I mentioned at first. You find SO MANY blue/yellow (rare...lol) items without even having MF--and the AH has so many options--that it makes no sense to do so. I just vendor EVERYthing my current character can't use unless I think it'll make me some money on the AH, and buy stuff from the AH when I really need an upgrade on a character. I only use the shared stash for stuff to be sold on the AH and gems/pages/tomes...maybe crafting mats eventually if I ever use it. [Edit: meant to say "but I would definitely xfer stuff between characters more if there was a centralized management screen"]

i misinterpreted his suggestion because i dont have any thing that i would need to move around from one toon to another. so in essence, i already basically manage my stuff from one place. it never occurred to me to need to be able to do what keyed suggested, because i never would need to. in that regard, it wouldnt make a difference to *me* one way or the other have that option. but for people like Keyed who want the ability to move stuff from one toon to another like that, sure, it probably would be nice.

im not, nor was i, arguing for or against his ideas...it just didnt make any sense to me. just as you are explaining your reason for clarifying, so i was explaining my reason for 'misinterpretation'.

Ive been saying for 100+ pages that venom hydra is completely awesome and probably the best overall. How are you using ray of frost for your primary and blizzard as your right click?

Hah, so I finally beat normal with my barb (all solo, no coop). Wanted to play through once to get the story bits. I only have about 1-1.5 hours a day to play, so took be a while.

And for me anyway (as a barb), Diablo was amazingly easy. Killed him my first time (level 31). Just used bash and stun locked him. I think he got maybe 2 hits in on me. But Izual took me at least 20 times. That damned nova frost was the bane of my existence. And then when I killed him, he dropped a worthless pair of boots with 1 attribute. That pissed me off, not even a single rare item.

Anyway, now I actually start leveling up quickly to give inferno a try. And then start building up other chars.

Elective skills ON in the gameplay tab options

It lets you place any skill in any shortcut

For the guys who have said you never find gear of the appropriate level, that's not entirely true. I experienced the same thing until 1/2 through A2 NM in the low 40s. Last night I was getting a ton of drops that were near my current level. Though it didn't happen for very long, some were even higher level than me...that's what got me to notice it at first. I upgraded armor pieces 5-6 times to appropriately min-level-required stuff, though sometimes it was the same slot, and even my weapon if you can believe it. The weapon was Lv46, found in late A3 @Lv47, but a definite upgrade from my previous AH-bought weapon. I still could have gotten a better weapon earlier from the AH, but it was down last night.

I'd have to guess the leveling curve is just way out of synch with mob levels for most or many areas of the game.

Just hit inferno. Almost had to pot on a starting area zombie, lol. This is going to be fun.

i think the answer is the same tho. when elective skills is on, you can put ANY spell in ANY slot. including two different primary skills in two different slots.

edit: just looked, and for my DH at least, the only restriction i appear to have so far is some of the defensive and hunting skills can't be bound to the left mouse click aka primary button. everything else seems to be fair game.

i think the only skills that you cant have more than 1 is the last type of skills (explosive blast, mirror, arcane or something like that) - I THINK

i used blizzard/hydra as well...

Sanity test, please advise. I use a venom/orb kiting build with high crit and regen.

My 59 Wizard.

HP: ~24,000
DMG: ~18,000
INT: ~1,100

Weapon: 585 dps 2 hander
Crit%: 22
Crit Dmg: + 95%
Regen: 850hp/s
Movement: +12%

I feel really sloppy when I play but I rarely die to anything in hell. Elites/champions I orb kite around my venom and whenever diamond is off cooldown, I sit there and spam orb, then rinse and repeat. Feels sloppy but it seems to work. Any damage I take, I regen when kiting and if I get in trouble, I'll pot. Almost to act 3 hell.

Does this seem on par or below where I should be?

Unless Wizard has some restriction on it that Barbarian doesn't, you can use as many skills from each 'type' as you want.

Also, i see Ashenor posted almost exactly the same thing as me and i spaced out and missed it lol. im sleepy.

Someone needs to stop playing Diablo until the wee hours of the morning!

I'd have to guess the leveling curve is just way out of synch with mob levels for most or many areas of the game.

Most likely. Unless you race toward the goal, it's very easy to simply do everything and level beyond the creatures in your area.

Yeah, I thought elective mode still restricted you to one spell of each type too. Then a friend of mine launched Archon right after Mirror Image and I was like, 'huh?'

Imagine my surprise.

Really, they need to include elective mode in the tutorial. Maybe even lock it for Normal and have it unlock when you get to Nightmare. But they should at least explain what it is and why's it's awesome and crucial on higher levels of difficulty.

yeah, knowing this is gonna be a HUGE help

I wonder why they bother with cooldowns when switching skills

Agreed. there are several spells within a tier that I would love to cast, and whole tiers that I don't use at all (or rarely).

In D2, I was always switching back and forth between spells. you had too as a bunch of them were no good without the other. Personally, I liked the D2 scenario better, but we get what we get.

Because in play testing people started to use macros to create entire skill build-outs that they quickly switched between depending on what the elites they are facing.
