what happens when in 2-3 year Blizzard shuts down the servers? Will they release an offline patch? Because I can play D1 and D2 now, nearly 20 years later.

Yeah they will still produce profit from the AH 2-3 years down the road..diablo 2 items are still sold.

It will probably be much longer than 2-3 years, however the likely situation will be that one day they will simply stop supporting the game and you won't be able to play it. It's unlikely they will release any kind of offline patch. Unfortunately no one can really say for sure because there is no precedent yet, and Blizzard surely isn't making that decision now. Buying games today is more like a long term rental than a purchase.

That is one thing I generally dislike in blizz games with most items you come across being several levels below your char so it somewhat limits the value of the item even if its an upgrade.

If they made drops easy then the items wouldn't have the value that they do now.

Does anyone craft 6 prop ilvl 62 weapons? From what I gather, the cost to make one is around the neighborhood of 250k. What with prices being upwards of 10's of millions for anything > 900dps, I was wondering what the chances are like if one were to attempt to craft their own weapons rather than to stake out the AH.

why would they shut down the servers? the d2 server are still up... battle.net is still up and that is holding everything

it probably won't happen in 2-3 years, but it will happen before 10. Diablo 2 has a much longer shelf life than Diablo 3 for reasons I won't get into because the Blizzard Fanboi brigade will attack if I do. Shhh....

But to answer the other poster's question, when they do shut down, I strongly suspect it will be just after Diablo 4 launches and it will shut down in an attempt to herd the masses into the new money pit... I mean game.

I kind of wondered about some of the 5-6 property weapon recipes as well, considering that basically all you need is +damage and +% damage for a good weapon and the rest is gravy.

However, from my own experience, it seems that when browsing and identifying weapons I almost never see the ILVL 62 ones turn out any good. Maybe I haven't been paying enough attention, but I feel like weapons may have some sort of intrinsic restriction on DPS or properties that makes the difference between item level 62 and 63 more important than it may seem/sound.

If I was going to seriously consider it, I think the first thing I'd do is browse the AH to see what kind of examples of IL 62 weapons I could find. Off hand, I feel like all the 'good' ones I see are IL 63, but I might not be going back far enough. As you say, a weapon with great properties and even 'only' high 700/800 DPS can be really valuable.

Why do you say that, have you tried it?

I asked some guy who does it on livestream on the bliz forums. He said he crafted >800dps on avg 1/20 attempts which come out to about 4m @ 200k/attempt.

The way I see it, the 700's are profitable, 600's are fairly break even, anything under 600 you're taking a hit... which you'll have to make up with whatever you sell the >800s for. I imagine the market is already adjusted to near breakeven on average but I was curious nontheless

Obviously the top tier stuff at the AH will be ilvl 63. All weapons have the same base dps and it's the modifiers that alter it. I don't think I've seen ilvl 62 > 1kdps but I have seen them in the 900s

i tried on 5 prop ~ and wasted a lot of gold and mats.
if all else if you're going to gamble, it's probably better on Gloves.

cheaper to craft and less mats.

I was looking to acquire a dagger recipe so I can try to craft my own instead of relying on the AH for a decently priced >800dps. Figure I'd sell my failures for cheap. It's an expensive risk to be taking on which is why I asked here.

I usually search for level 63 gear and add a filter for Reduced level requirements equal to however many evils I am from 63.

Ugh, I need a few million gold but don't feel like chancing some foreign company. But man, gold is stupid cheap, $4.50 per million.

except how does an item dropping that is equivalent to the level of the content make the dropping of the item easy.

Be careful. some people here would say there is no "Level equivalent". That you get what you can find (or buy) and that is it.

IDK, but I'm guessing he never played D2. D3 had bots within days of closed beta. I'm currently making about 9 mill/day/account. Expanded up to 12Gb of RAM and I maxed out my comp with 8 VMs. Keep buying gold.
