And if you played D2 any, you would have 1 decent item MAYBE. The idea behind the AH that you don't have to stash or save or throw away good items you can't use. A few months back I found trifecta gloves with 150 int. I had no int using character. These would have been basically junk except I could sell them on the AH.

Think about all of the hours you played D2, if you did, and then think about how many end game items you actually found. Loot is far more available in D3 than it ever was in D2. And with the game being centered around multiplayer, it is harder to solo in the just found crap gear.

I found nearly everything I wanted in D2 after 1.09 except a GF and a WF that I traded sojs (that I found) to obtain.

My perfect Ethereal Titan's Revenge was awesome.
My perfect Ethereal Barruc's was awesome.
The numerous high level runes were great. I made two Enigmas from stuff I found.
I found every set item except for the diadem, vortex shield and caduceus.

My prized possession was a 1.08 Saracen 's Chance.

D3 itemization is garbage. Your D2 comparison is hilarious to me. Thanks.

I have no idea what the ratio for D3 is so far on my end. But it seems it's about 100/1 ratio of items I find to items that are actually auction-able. In today's gaming industry, which has changed much since D2's release, it doesn't seem to be a sustainable gaming model.

I still play occasionally because I already started in on the hellfire rings with some people. So I play once a week or so...

If they hadn't made the MP/HF ring changes, I would've been done already. I quit from the end of July thru the MP change basically, and only came back because it seemed that there was more of a point to the endless hours of fruitless grinding for items I can't use....Exp and HF rings...

lol started a barb sat morning @ level 1, hit 60 last night @ 10pm.
rode it all the way with cain's set and a leoric's signet. was rough until i hit 45 and bought (2) -15 reduced level requirement weapons.

Yeah I'd concur. I finally started collecting HF ring stuff....got one, but now I have a backlog because I have a shortage of spines...(that sounds so odd to say....)

Honestly though I log in and if there aren't a couple friends online to party with I immediately log out again. I got tired of doing solo al kaizer runs after about 2 weeks, only play with groups now.

Then you played a ton, or off ladder (yes, dupes were absolutely that rampant). Or both. Drop chances in D2 were not good, especially for runes, but if you devote enough time to it you eventually get lucky.

Mathematically speaking, you would find two Jahs in about the same time it would take you to see 10000 Els; throw in two Burs and that's 17000 Els total (not that you pick them all up, rather that's how many you'd see drop on average). Of course you might also find two Jahs in one run or never see a Jah in your entire life, but that's life.

Drop rates in neither game are "good", but it's necessary for an online community/economy to develop and to keep people coming back for more.

I really like the difficulty level of normal with MP10, I don't have to buy gear from the AH and I can kill stuff with a fun challenge.

Anyone have suggestions on MP levels for subsequent play throughs? I think I had to use the AH about midway through nightmare on MP10.

Hehe, runes were crazy. I remember self (g)rushing 4 accounts at a time (on bnet that is....on SP you could run 8 instances at a time) to the 3 forges and cubed them. It only took about 45 minutes to hit all 3, which meant 12 separate forge drops each run. I think the highest I got cubing them up was Jah. What sucked is when the ladder season ended and your chars went non-ladder and you couldn't cube up that high anymore.

I do have to say that the AH is pretty much dead at this point. I have a few items that I bought for 1M-2M that I've put up 7 or 8 times. I'm currently trying to sell for 15K, and I hadn't over-payed for the items when I initially bought them...

flipping on the gold AH is a fruitless endeavor as price fluctuations are rarely in your favor. the AH isn't dead, but at the price point where you're trying to move items, you're going to easily find dozens of similarly specced and priced items.

The new gems takes 3 radiant stars plus 20 mil.

The middle tier items don't sell anymore. Players have either hit the top tier of gear or are just starting out. You can see middle tier items for starter gear prices though. The game economy is so messed up right now. You're either a poor player or a player who RHAM, bots, or got SUPER lucky. And so many players bot or botted there is a super elite rich class that horde the top items. There was a bot that scanned the AH for item, gathered the average price, bought things below that price and resold for the higher amount. Tons of players used this and got banned. Even some of the top streamers did this then tried to lie about why they got banned.

Oh... it's just a new gem. I stopped upgrading my gems at the 3rd best one. Much more profitable to sell everything afterwards. Increase in stats is miniscule for the cost.
