So I log in almost every day and play a set of bounties and a rift.
I've done about 70 bounties since release and I have yet to get a legendary reward.
I also have yet to get anything from Kadala.
So I pretty much play for an hour, get one legendary 2-hand drop that I salvage and quit.

Am I doing something wrong?

Are you playing solo or with friends? You pretty much need to get into a group. For cache runs, do split farming at normal. Then do rifts only at T1 or higher. You get with someone that's fully equiped, and they are likely throwing a ton of crap your way. That's how my and my buddies have been playing. I barely ever play dh or monk, and almost have complete set pieces for them.

Got my T&T last night and it was awful... I am debating shelving Zuni set as I am not even using Fetish Army anymore and picking up the rest of my Jade Set. I might keep the 2 piece Zuni just to get the mana regen with RRoG.

I'm the only one of my 10+ play group that purchased RoS. After vanilla was disappointing we found Path of Exile and moved on to that. There are lots of people that really like RoS, but I've found my experience to be even worse than the original so far... :-(

Are you playing US or Europe? If US, join the AT clan. There are always people on to group with.

Zuni is useless right now until they fix the bug. I equip two piece with no rrog, just for the bonus int. Mana is not needed at all if you go full pets. Jut put on ptv, and spam addling toads for decent damage and cc from the confusion. Let pets do the damage. I definitely wanna get jade, but I'm probably gonna continue to use dogs and the searpent for that damage reduction.

Yeah, I am spamming Rain of Toads and Corpse Bomb at the moment, with Piranado being my other non pet skill. It helps clear trash, which I find the pet build to be lacking.

I currently have 3-p zuni and 3-p Jade (but one is gloves, so that will go away if I find a decent T&T). I do hope they fix the bug, as the Fetish Army is better than the sycophants, but 15 of them up pretty much all the time is fine.

Okay, so I played in the D3 beta back before original launch, wasn't really into the artistic direction they took, but now I have like three different friends playing, all asking me to play with them. So downloaded the demo last night, started up a monk, got through the first starter zone, to the first waypoint, called it a night.

Any advice for a complete newb starting a fresh game? I played COUNTLESS hours of D1 & D2 back in the day, used to play WoW quite a bit, so i know the basics of gameplay. Guess I'm really looking for advice on best class to start with, skills to focus on, etc.

Comments?

Thanks!

Right now any character but the monk is best to play with. The monk is fun to play, but being a melee character without any bonus armor or resistance from main stat makes it harder to progress to higher difficulties when you start gearing at max level.

Is monk gimped or something? I played the trial and never tried monk because people said it wasn't as good to use as other classes.

The problem with monk, in my opinion, is they now require a ton of gear to be viable. They just don't have the survivability (especially with the life steal removal) to contend unless you have a lot of gear. My monk has basically been removed to speed bounty farming on normal.

Monks need a good set buff. None of their sets are game changers that will allow for easy t4+ farming. Maybe reduced dot time for explosive palm or something.

They definitely need something. Maybe buff their armor passive to give 100% of dex as armor again (a nerf that happened a good while ago). Their skills are also pretty bad. In every single build, you're spirit spenders are going to end up being pretty close. You're always running sweeping wind and a lot of the skills just aren't good.

Some better set pieces might help (like exploding palm does the full damage over 3 seconds or something, maybe the inner fire is always up, but that might be OP).

The Inna's 4 piece could be an insane buff depending on how/if it works with their Unity passive. Unfortunately the actual pieces are in some bad slots and they're not that great individually either.

Man I'd never want Palm to wear off any faster though, that sounds awful lol. Give me a legendary that makes it spread like "Mark of Death".

The explosion does a ton of damage though, and imagine if it did more damage in a smaller amount of time which is exactly what jade does for wd.

Yeah. Jade set allows for near instant activation of 4000% weapon damage on two targets. If Exploding Palm allowed that, it would be amazing.

The explosion only occurs if the enemy dies while the DoT is active, not when the DoT ends. Shorter duration would make EP a much more noticeable spirit expenditure (waste, even) and give a smaller window to 'pop' it.

As weak as the monk is by himself, as a DH i do love rifting with a good one. Increased damage to mobs and the ability to suck them all together make for some nice cluster arrow hits. As a cluster arrow DH i hate that everyone plays witch doctor now. Pretty much ruins my effectiveness by spreading everything out.

WD's : Please read this http://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo3witchdoctors/comments/25x9d1/debos_tall_mans_finger_tutorial_builds/

And comment why this is a viable build? I don't see the theory behind the build to have only 1 pet vs say 4-6?

Zombie dogs don't do a lot of damage. The ring makes them do quite a lot more and they are fairly resilient. So, a single dog doing 30m+ crits is better than 4 doing 1.5m crits or whatever. And, if you're running sycophants, you've got a lot of guys running around taking aggro.

WD is better for that. Much better overall damage and Pirahnado sucks in enemies as well as adds a 15% damage boost. Not all monks will be running Conviction. And, the WD will do a lot more damage to things than scrubby monks. =)

Thnx! Wasn't sure on the philosophy. I do have the ring in my bank but never had a reason to equip it until now. I will experiment with it tonight.. And you are right the fetishes do very well against mob agro

Another Q: Do you use the guargantuan? I'm starting to hate that idiot... they are always standing around doing nothing.. so I might change to the poison guarg and see if that works better.

I'm currently using Wrathful Protector and I took the passive Midnight Feast. That gives him and dog(s) an extra 20% damage boost. He crits for 50 million which is pretty amazing.

Yes, his AI sucks. Sometimes if I see him standing there doing nothing I'll move a bit and that typically gets him cranking along.

The gargantuan is a moron. I use him, and when he hits he does decent damage, but normally he is pretty awful. I've noticed the AI for all the WD pets is hit and miss. It is like Blizzard didn't want them to be to aggressive and put in a "every 60 seconds, stand around doing nothing for 15!" bs code in their AI. I know they can make pets not terrible (I played a hunter in WoW, and they would never stand around. If they weren't on passive, they'd aggro every single room.)

So, I can't seem to get an answer on this... are Corrupted Angels supposed to be incredibly beefy mobs? Out of all the elite packs that I fight, they always take forever.

The Inna's 4 piece could be an insane buff depending on how/if it works with their Unity passive. Unfortunately the actual pieces are in some bad slots and they're not that great individually either.

Unity is limited up to 20%.

I have to admit that I'm really not a huge fan of Cycle Strike. I mean... I like the effect, but I just don't have a spot for it in my build. Dashing Strike and my Mantra are nearly irreplaceable, which just leaves Mystic Ally and Sweeping Winds. My Mystic Ally provides +10% damage and an extra +5% from Unity, and also deals damage. Another bonus that most probably ignore is that he can take aggro from me, which is nice when I'm stuck fighting those nasty Mallot Lord bosses (they hurt... a lot). Sweeping Winds isn't some amazing ability, but you notice when it isn't up because things just don't die as quickly as they should.

The only mobs that make me miss Cyclone Strike are wasps, succubi and Morlu invokers.

Not all monks will be running Conviction.

From purely my own experience, I've had the best luck running Conviction with the -15% damage dealt rune. I've tried replacing Mantra of Conviction with the healing mantra, and I found that I had a harder time running rifts with it. If I kill enemies faster (+10% or +20% upon activation, which I can keep up nearly indefinitely) and they deal less damage (-15%), then chances are I will take less damage that I don't need to waste time healing.

It's like... the one way, I take 200,000 damage, but the other way I take 350,000 and heal for 100,000.

The gargantuan is a moron. I use him, and when he hits he does decent damage, but normally he is pretty awful. I've noticed the AI for all the WD pets is hit and miss. One of the problems that I've found is that when you have a huge horde of minions, they tend to follow behind you too often. This usually causes them to get stuck outside of events for whatever reason. As you mentioned, their attack isn't nearly as reactionary/trigger-happy as it should be. My Mystic Ally and Templar seem to attack enemies much more often, but even they sometimes let mobs come up and hit me.

RNGesus was kind a moment ago, Odyn Son and Pauldrons of the SK dropped within minutes of one another.
