1.0.2 Inferno was way harder than current T6. There were white monsters in A3 Inferno doing 540,000 damage PER MELEE HIT at a time when the average melee player had about 250,000 toughess. The difficulty scaled by Act, with Act 4 monsters the hardest. Most people farmed A3 because it had the same loot table as A4 but was only about half as hard due to easier monster affixes.

To imagine how hard the original A3-A4 Inferno was, imagine a basic mob in T6 doing 20,000,000 damage in a single melee attack.

Exactly this. If you think that T6 is harder than inferno then you either didn't play when the game released or you really have a bad case of the fanboi-ism (which I also wouldn't doubt).

All they really did was patch their super crappy loot hunt to make it slightly less super-crappy but it still lacks some core fundamentals that made D2 and other games so great. The fact that you need to hunt for SPECIFIC pieces just to get past a certain point of the game is garbage, there are no variables in the game.

In terms of difficulty I'd say:

1.02 Inferno > Prepatch 1.05 MP10 > 1.03 Inferno > Prepatch 1.05 MP8-9 > Current T6 ~ Post 1.05 MP10

I'd say that's about right but I haven't played all of those versions. T6 is nowhere near inferno difficulty, and the fact that certain builds/combos can't even get to that level speaks volumes about the "customizing" in the game. Blizz def borked it.

just started a season WD in the AT group.

Welcome to season 2! If you need any help, I'll likely be on during the day during the week. If you see me on, pop a message my way and we'll get some exp'ing and farming done.

I know I had been saying inferno, but context should have got you to realize I was talking about D2 Hell (since I was obviously never comparing D3 to itself). Apologies for the mix up.

It's hard to say what was 'harder' or rather it depends how you measure 'harder'. Random inferno zombie from release 1v1 melee duel vs random t6 zombie I think the T6 zombie wins. In terms of 'raw stats' (aka higher numbers) I think T6 is stronger than Inferno, probably even mid tier torment is. Actually I'm not so certain now that I think of it considering a inferno zombie would only have been level 60 and a T6 zombie (or rather my frame of reference of it) is level 70 - I haven't seen level 60 in T6 in ages lol. Hard to say.

Regardless, the difference is mostly in the gear (but also a lot of nerfs that have been put in place such as monster affix edits and the shift in enemy design away from 'try to survive it' to 'kill it efficiently' - also major skill buffs for many classes since then) as at release nobody had any nice things and we didn't have any of the crazy powerful gear sets or legendaries or any of the subsequent drop buffs/optimizations in place. So you were doing inferno in rares that weren't even a fraction of the strength of that which you could eventually pick up for pennies on the AH pre-expansion. As a sword/board barb I cleared inferno butcher with like... 8-9k sheet DPS and was pretty close to enrage (another thing that was removed) and eventually was farming A3 inferno with like... around 20k sheet dps? And it was almost entirely aspd based, I didn't have crap for CC/CD.

And I'm just playing my non-season monk still here and there. Can't bring myself to care about season.

Inferno is what screwed this game up from the start, people had to cheat to essentially clear it using strats that were hotfixed/patched by blizzard but never rolled back. So after they were patched most people couldn't clear it and the people that cheesed it continued to get further and further ahead of everyone else.

Blizzard made inferno nearly Impossible, at the same time some classes can get GR keys much higher than what they can clear, so if you can clear GR45 on DH if you tried a GR50 you would probably think that is even harder since most affixes can one shot anyone with some abilities even after 50% dmg reduction from unity.

The original Inferno was so hilarious that everyone ran Enchantress for her charm spell because enemy mobs were doing so much damage they would 1 shot each other. I remember people wouldn't fight monsters at all and just make them fight each other. In act 3 I would just wait for a charm ability on my barb to go off cooldown, pop it, and watch the charmed monster 1 shot other monsters.

my word, discussions about Inferno brings back some negative memories. Boy, the game was fvcked from the get go. I certainly enjoy the game more now. I think there's a pretty good balance comparatively speaking.

Yup.. Pandemonium and a couple others from our clan got me from 16 to 70 paragon 5 in about an hour or just over.

Also, Panda, gonna need some help with some of you guys, T1 is doable for me, but very slowly which makes getting gear a long painstaking process. And, I would also like to hit up some non-season runs. Got a couple Ancient set pieces this morning....still looking for the Ancient Furnace though. I have a non-Ancient one, but the dmg sucks compared to my Ancient Sunkeeper.

Yeah, it takes a while to get back up to T6 from fresh. Took me forever to get my SWK set and actually be able to do damage, lol.

We can certainly do some non-season runs as well. I'm good for either or.

Also, just as a heads-up, if you guys need any characters leveled I think I have that down to a science now. Got my brother's fresh crusader to 70 in 1.5 hours and PL28 after acts 1, 3, 4, and 5 bounties completed, 1 rift, with 4 caches and a bunch of rift keystones ready to jump into it. So if anyone needs characters leveled, we can get it done quick!

Finally... an smk drops for me . And it was an Ancient. I was so psyched. Here's the funny thing. It did not drop from GRG, RG, Elite, Champion pack, not even in a rift at all. It dropped from a random chest while doing Act 1 bounties. So, I finally have one after 550+ plevels.

Anyhow, I am up to GR 38 now with my WD and I'm not sure I'm ready to switch over to solo that wth my smk. Been doing really well with the Rhen Ho so far.

I still haven't gotten a SMK from anything....

I'd take an Ancient SMK or Sun Keeper, but that ain't happening. =(

I get a bunch of sun keeper drops, but none of them have been ancient.

I think I'll go ahead and start a WD seasonal. Are the seasonal gear for WD any good?

Also, does anyone think the DH is a bit OP?

You don't need any elite weapons to get a DH in the 40's. It's questionable that you even need a special quiver. You can craft an ancient arcane barb, easily hit the 40's with the unity ring.

I don't even try with my DH and end up with a 38 key when I just wanted to do low gr to upgrade new gems.

Don't need a nerf at all, but my wd is def. a bit Jelly.. lol

Seasonal WD item is intended for jade docs, from how I understood the affix.

For DH, I would argue that you at least need a spender to generator item, whether it's a bow or quiver. I haven't kept up with the meta, though.

I leveled up a Crusader for Season 2, saving up all of my shards while I was leveling to spend once I hit 70. After hitting 70 and having 150 saved, I went to Kadala to purchase a shield with the intent to start a Pony build.

Very first shield purchase was an Unrelenting Phalanx! The stats were alright (STR, VIT, +Life%, and +Punish which I'm going to restat to +Crit). But that's okay! It's the effect that counts the most. Even with having crappy gear, the shield makes the Pony build usable. I can't wait to continue fleshing it out with a full Akkahn's set and a better weapon.

Spent my first hundred shards on an amulet and got a Countess Julia's Cameo that's nicely geared to my witch doctor... 578 int, 7% attack speed, 20% chance to AoE on hit , 25% reduce duration on effects and 25% to the arcane heal with a socket. Should I assume this is the amulet I'll always use? Its only level 67 though since I am not 70 yet

WDs do really need some love. I think if they just nerfed the CD on Pirahannas down to half (nado at 8sec), I'd be able to easily do higher rights without the any additional gear. The problem is I run into packs of trash and they just take forever. Not enough AoE damage with a pet build. =(

How do unidentified legendaries work in RoS? Is there any reason to save them for when I'm a higher level to ID? Or are their stats determined when they drop?

I just love the idea of saving un-ID legendaries for when I hit lvl 70.

FYI: I just double dipped on D3 on the PSN. Dunno why by this game is a lot more fun for me on the couch with a controller. *shrug*

Stats on items (and the contents of a cache) have always been determined at time of drop/creation. No sense saving anything.

If it's not a level 70, eventually you'll replace it.
