Oh boy, one of my love hate topics. Driving.
I've hated almost everyone/thing on the road at some point in my life I think, and been hated by alot for various reasons.
I'll elaborate. I drive an 82 VW Diesel Pick-UP. It's small, very very slow, not very atractive, smokes as a diesel should, I piss people off alot with it, unintentionaly, most of the time. I have always though the world would be full of much better drivers if they all had to drive a VW diesel for a given amount of time every year, it teaches patience, planning and looking ahead, courtesey, many things.
I cant accelerate very fast, I mean it takes ages to get up to 70mph, and you would never know how many on ramps on the interstate are uphill either. People behind me get pissed cause I'm not going fast enough, people no longer know how to get out of the lane I'me trying to enter, people cut infront of me once they swoop around me running 85mph. It's usually just amusing, they get even more upset when they look at me and notice the chuckeling going on, but that isnt always the case, my patience has limits also.
Why is everyone in such a hurry.
Things werent always this way though, I drove a 78 Lincoln Continintal for along time. This is a car, a man's car, a real car, a car that nothing and noone short of a rig pushes around. 6Klbs+, 20feet long with truck bumpers and a 460. People tailgate, nail the brakes, I've been hit in the rear and distroyed more plastic "bumpers" than I can count. Cut me off, push them out of the way. Wont let me pass? Not likely, been clocked at 138mph and rising, and I will push my way in. In the grand scheme of things it never made any difference, but I always felt better "educating" other drivers about their errors and inappropriate attitude. One has social obligations after all.
But that was years ago, I was young and idealistic maybe, but I still have the Linc..
The truck is cheap and gets 40mpg+, has 545,000 miles on it, never dies, just keeps clanking along.
Funny part is, people usually freak out and turn chicken when they realize your willing to hit them instead of makeing way for their arrogance and rudeness on the road.
Hmm.. I've always wanted to put railroad tie bumpers on the Lincoln....
