I'd say edwards started the stronger then got a bit over excited. Seemed like a teenager at times.
His closing address was awful.

I'd sat Cheney got a close win on that, but as I disagree with most of his politics that probably means he won by a country mile!!

Cheney wins this one. No one is going to be swayed though, just as in the first presidential debate.

I'm sure you'd follow him off a bridge too

You're having a problem accepting this, aren't you

What part was "ownage"?

-Screwing up the gay constitutional ammendent round. I thought this was pretty much a given for Edwards.

-Saying comments like "is this really what the question is, because you know my opponent was just discussing something else" Really?? Yeah, no crap we just watched it.

-Saying John Kerry's name when the moderator specifically asked him not to.

I don't know which debate you people were watching but when cherubic John Edwards called "Mr. Vice President" and made Cheney turn around and look him in the eye during a response that moment showed America that John Edwards can stand toe to toe with Cheney and command the debate.

Edwards had an excellent command of the FACTS and Cheney was at a LOSS to answer those facts. Cheney stumbled and obfuscated. Cheney changed the subject. Cheney ducked the truth. Cheney simply continued to tell the lies he has been telling on the campaign trail. Well, Mr. Vice President, this isn't a campaign stop where Americans have to sign a loyalty oath to get in. America had the benefit of John Edwards to tell the truth and expose the false information you and George Bush have made the staple of your administration.

WINNER: EDWARDS.

I found Edwards better spoken than Cheney. Cheney said "um" and "uh" just about every time he said something. Cheney also seemed cranky to me. He rarely smiled, and just came across as very cold and miserable to me.

As for who actually won the debate, I did not watch it in its entirety so I can't really say.

I'd like to hear TastesLIkeChicken's take.

- He won the gay constitutional amendment round. He called Cheney out on his gay daughter that he sells off for Bush
- The comments explaining the the neocon lies was helpful to gullible americans
- Saying john kerry's name was hilarious because it was such a stupid chimp rule

Kerry's Running Mate Established A Tax Shelter To Avoid Paying Taxes On Medicare

In 1995 Edwards Avoided Paying $591,112 In Medicare Taxes By Setting Up A Tax Shelter. ?The Kerry-Edwards Democratic presidential campaign released Mr. Edwards?s income figures in a statement yesterday in response to questions about the taxes he paid after he created a tax shelter in 1995. Mr. Edwards paid $9,353,448 in federal taxes on his income of $26,869,496, but the shelter allowed him to avoid paying $591,112 in Medicare tax, the figures provided by the campaign show.? i feel like cheney spoke better. more focused, anyway. i think the other bits are just his personality.

Oh no a rule imposed where we can't mention certain names! Its the government they are trying to hold us down.

Well Cheney won this debate I think, but he wasn't the clear winner like Kerry was last Thursday. Worse, after watching this debate people may ask themselves why Cheney isn't commander-in-chief instead of Bush. Overall, I don't think Edwards fumbled or screwed up big tonight, he did what he had to do which was hold his own against Cheney. He smiled, was likeable, and presented himself well. I don't think anyone expected Edwards to win this debate, now Cheney vs. Kerry would be a much better show. Hell, we should just do a candidate swap.

Push.

Cheney had more specific gravity. Less defensive. But he lied more. More personal jabs.
Edwards came off as more of a light weight. But he answered more questions. Less personal jabs.

This debate was alot more boring because there was no entertainment value.
No one to ridicule.
In-other-words: No Bush.

The take-home message has to be--Bush is Cheney's puppet.

I think the debate was pretty well matched. I think each side will make hay over one point or another and take issue with one response or another, but overall it seemed more evenly matched than last week's Presidential debate.

Why was Edwards always a question or 2 behind? Every response, he starts off with "I want to go back to XXXXX"

I missed the gay marraige talk, but kudos to cheney for backing away from it. Big  to Edwards for that underhanded assault on the President using Cheney's daughter. Cheney should have mentioned how he plans to help the rising obesity rates in the US and cited Edwards's wife.
