Who won Tuesday night's vice presidential debate?

a. Vice President Cheney (41%)
16,445

b. Senator Edwards (57%)
22,621

c. I did not watch (1%)
228

d. None of the above (1%)
345

Those results are quite shoking to me, though it's an unscientific poll. I think it might show that Democrats are doing what Republicans were asked to do(from another thread) more successfully.

The Freepers are intentionally skewing online polls towards Edwards to make them tainted and unusable as news tomorrow.

Am I missing something? I don't read it that way. That would be the all-time stupidest spin effort in electoral history - people who click on CNN.com, or watch it on TV, will just hear the results, not about the ballot-box-stuffing effort.

This from that thread:

It's within the 3 hours before the debate that it happened last time. I'll bet Freepers could compose some good DU letters. Here's mine:
Dear media person from list:

I thought that Senater Edwards showed the hes ready to take over as presedent if Kerry is elected presedent. Chaney is a mean old man and Edwards is smooth and goodlooking I hope he wins. Sure made up my mind in this debate. Please keep up the good work. Thanks!

Very truly, XXXX

Flood their emails with Edwards is a winner, then vote Bush in the online polls.
They won't know the Dems from us in the emails, and it is so personal it will tick them off because they will be flooded with thousands of emails.

I don't know. Last Thursday night was too busy fighting to keep sanity on the board to have a chance to fight Dem spin.

It's not even something I'd generally do, prefering my responses to be voluntarily and honest. However, war is ugly and post debate spin has become a war in itself. So guess they can count me in, provided we can control the number of "sky is falling" posts tonight.

Just like the left did after the first debate when they got the emails to flood the polls. Go figure - ACT and the other kook fringe groups trying to over-represent.

Conjur, it doesn't suggest anywhere (at least that I can see) that people should falsely vote for Edwards - it says they should send e-mails supportive of Edwards, but vote for Cheney.

Link to Edwards stealing money from medicare? Just because Cheney said so doesn't make it true...

Kerry's Running Mate Established A Tax Shelter To Avoid Paying Taxes On Medicare

In 1995 Edwards Avoided Paying $591,112 In Medicare Taxes By Setting Up A Tax Shelter. ?The Kerry-Edwards Democratic presidential campaign released Mr. Edwards?s income figures in a statement yesterday in response to questions about the taxes he paid after he created a tax shelter in 1995. Mr. Edwards paid $9,353,448 in federal taxes on his income of $26,869,496, but the shelter allowed him to avoid paying $591,112 in Medicare tax, the figures provided by the campaign show.? Wait, he actually said .COM? (Can't recall if he said .com or .org) If so, that sure was an amusing mistake.

He said .COM. I'm positive.

CHENEY: Well, the reason they keep mentioning Halliburton is because they're trying to throw up a smokescreen. They know the charges are false. They know that if you go, for example, to factcheck.com (sic), an independent Web site sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania, you can get the specific details with respect to Halliburton.

MSNBC's transcript says the same thing. That is too funny.

anyone else see Matthews on Hardball? He said that they have fotage of Cheney saying there is a direct link between Saddam Hussein, Al Qeada and 9-11. Cheney specifically said that he did not say there was a link between Saddam, Iraq and 9-11. Why don't they show the clip?

The worst part was Cheney lecturing Edwards about diminishing the contributions of our allies as he counted Iraqi casualties in the coalition to get 50% American instead of 90%, when in fact the pentagon's number is 88.5%. What a fcking low life liar.

todd I am sure if you also saw that you also saw that Edwards distored the 280 billion dollar figure when in actuality it is closer to 120 billion, the 200 billion was for next years and furthers budgeting....love the half a loaf quote on your part though, what a fcking low life liar Edwards is.

Kerry and Edwards have alway said 200 billion and not the 280 you have. If you think the war and occupation in Iraq won't go higher than even 200 billlion just ask why GWB has not asked budgeted any money for the cost of the war in Iraq in the new budgets - everything is going under emergency supplementals.

Is it illegal? If it's not illegal then you shouldn't blame him for doing everything possible within the realm of the law. He paid the taxes he was required to pay. Everyone pays what they are required to pay. You think a lawyer making $26 mil really does his own taxes? You don't think that he has a money manager or an accountant that decides ways for Edwards to pay less? Come on.

I don't condone these tax loopholes at all and think they are wrong. But as long as they aren't illegal then you can't hold people acocuntable that use them legally. No matter how screwed up it is.
