Regarding the haliburton quip vs. the fact that Edwards didn't pay 600,000 into medicare:

I would be more offended that someone was stealing money from medicare than some oil company alledgedly enjoying a few benefits.

Link to Edwards stealing money from medicare? Just because Cheney said so doesn't make it true...

Kerry's Running Mate Established A Tax Shelter To Avoid Paying Taxes On Medicare

In 1995 Edwards Avoided Paying $591,112 In Medicare Taxes By Setting Up A Tax Shelter. ?The Kerry-Edwards Democratic presidential campaign released Mr. Edwards?s income figures in a statement yesterday in response to questions about the taxes he paid after he created a tax shelter in 1995. Mr. Edwards paid $9,353,448 in federal taxes on his income of $26,869,496, but the shelter allowed him to avoid paying $591,112 in Medicare tax, the figures provided by the campaign show.? (Michael Moss And Kate Zernike, ?Campaign Releases Edwards?s Earnings,? The New York Times, 7/10/04)

Linked, but you need user/PW to get in to nytimes

Is it illegal? If it's not illegal then you shouldn't blame him for doing everything possible within the realm of the law. He paid the taxes he was required to pay. Everyone pays what they are required to pay. You think a lawyer making $26 mil really does his own taxes? You don't think that he has a money manager or an accountant that decides ways for Edwards to pay less? Come on.

I don't condone these tax loopholes at all and think they are wrong. But as long as they aren't illegal then you can't hold people acocuntable that use them legally. No matter how screwed up it is.

Yeah that was sooo low. I mean all businesses and people use whatever classifications they can to get the best deals. And we know Sleez-ey Chen-ey supports these types of "loopholes." And we're supposed to believe that Edwards is bad because he uses the available tax infrastructure to his advantage? Proposterous.

I have no doubt that people think Cheney won. I also think Cheney won but barely. What is going to be interesting(which has already been happening everywhere except FoxNews) is Cheney getting caught on his lies. Him telling the American public today that he never said there were ties between Saddam and AL-Qaeda and then on MSNBC showing a clip of Cheney at Meet the Press saying the exact opposite.

Also I think he completely ruined his credibility with the ,"I've never met Edwards till today." He did it to prove a point and the only way to get such a powerful reaction was to say the he never met Edwards. In other words by lieing.

This will come back to haunt Cheney's credibility.

And just when did Edwards support the troops with a visit? Kerry didn't, did Edwards? So much for more than lip service to the troops.

Cheney seems quite cool,

I was expecting the oposite from reading these boards

Edwards looked pretty dry mouthed.

Anyone else getting sick of the Republicans distorting every word that is spoken by the Democrats???

Funny if you ask me, the Presidency, which has been mocked by people all over the world for its current inability to speak proper English, has their entire campaign surrounded around debating every word that is spoken by Kerry.

What do you want them to do, come up with ideas? Tell us about their plans to fix Iraq?
In under 2 minutes? I would like to hear their plan as well, but these debates don't allow for the time to go into the plan. If it was me, I would do a 2 hour debate with more time to discuss these plans of both candidates.

Edwards actually just discussed his plans.
Bush discussed his last week on his plan in Iraq. Same with Vice President tonight. They have no plan. Easy to discuss that in 2 minutes.

And Kerry's plan seems to be that he is going to do it better. How do you define that?

Making competent decisions. Unlike this administration.

You don't have to be rich to have a pool in Miami. That generalization is just stupid. My family and myself are part of the middle class. Other friends of mine have pools in their homes as well and they aren't rich by any sense of the word. They aren't extravagant pools by any sense of the word. They are just your standard size pool.

Proof that overclocking leads to brain damage.

Dont let your feelings of having to settle for a lesser system cloud your judgment. Cheney clearly smashed Edwards and theres no doubt about that.

Then go ahead and live with your head in the sand. It's merely clips from the Kerry/Bush debate. Afraid to see your emperor with no clothes?

I must admit, seeing any man naked is quite unappealing. Considering that I think homosexuality is unacceptable. So please dont suggest otherwise.

Remember Cheney mentioning factcheck.COM?

Well...here it is:

http://www.factcheck.com

LOL "WHY WE MUST NOT RE-ELECT PRESIDENT BUSH: A Personal Message from George Soros"

That's because somebody has obviously hacked factcheck.com, an unrelated website, to redirect to GeorgeSoros.com. The real factcheck.com was an educational company of some sort when I tried it out of curiosity. (I can't remember exactly what they do.)

The site Dick Cheney meant to refer to, factcheck.org is unaffected.

One funny thing is that Fox News currently has a link to the hacked site in it's top VP debate story. (What an embarrassment!)

Update: Probably not hacked. Probably intentional on the part of the domain owner or a brand new registrant.

Hmmmm.....most polls show Edwards winning by about 20%. Not how I would have called it, but I guess that's how the people saw it.

Yeah, but the top story at the actual site, Factcheck.org, isn't much more helpful to Cheney, though it responsibly discusses both candidates' inaccuracies. Here's what it shows:

---
Cheney & Edwards Mangle Facts
Getting it wrong about combat pay, Halliburton, and FactCheck.org

Summary

Cheney wrongly implied that FactCheck had defended his tenure as CEO of Halliburton Co., and the vice president even got our name wrong. He overstated matters when he said Edwards voted "for the war" and "to commit the troops, to send them to war." He exaggerated the number of times Kerry has voted to raise taxes, and puffed up the number of small business owners who would see a tax increase under Kerry's proposals.

Edwards falsely claimed the administration "lobbied the Congress" to cut the combat pay of troops in Iraq, something the White House never supported, and he used misleading numbers about jobs.

Analysis

Cheney Plugs FactCheck

Cheney got our domain name wrong -- calling us "FactCheck.com" -- and wrongly implied that we had rebutted allegations Edwards was making about what Cheney had done as chief executive officer of Halliburton.

In fact, we did post an article pointing out that Cheney hasn't profited personally while in office from Halliburton's Iraq contracts, as falsely implied by a Kerry TV ad. But Edwards was talking about Cheney's responsibility for earlier Halliburton troubles. And in fact, Edwards was mostly right...
