Well, I got my 6805 today. Inb fact, I'm sitting in the recliner right now as I type this. Wireless kicks ***!

So, it was only a $200 rebate, but that was ok, because they only had one left (display model). Since they said eMachines doesn't honor the rebate for Open Box items, they chopped that $100 off, plus another $100 for being the display model. So total price after rebates (not counting sales tax) was $1249.

So far, everything is running great, it's niceandclean for a disply model, and only one dead pixel, that only shows on dark backgrounds.

Now to get a second battery for this beast.

Wow, welcome to all of the new forum members and M6805\7 owners!

I've got a proposition\challenge:
TeAm Anandtech Folding@Home is getting our asses kicked, we're dropping in the rankings pretty badly. How about the M6805\7 owners make our now-massive presence felt and start crunching for the TeAm? One machine can make a pretty good impact (an XP 2200+, 2500+@3200+, and mobile A64@2.0 get me to about #10 in the daily rankings), let alone all of these. Whaddaya guys\gals say? Oh yeah, don't be shy about using your desktops to crunch either!

Hmm...whats up with the new omega drivers? Either they dont work with 3dmark2001se or that DirectX 9.0b doesnt work. It gives me an error message when i try to run 3dmark:

"3dmark2001 needs DirectX 8.1 and proper drivers installed in order to run. Install DirectX 8.1 and try again."

Anyone have a solution? Getting 8.1 when you have 9.0 is absurd. Good night all.

PanHead,
That depends on how your DSL is set up most of the time it is with an EXT dsl modem and you use a RJ45 or cat 5 cable to connect to the modem and away you go. By the way who do you have for DSL if it is AOL you may want to leave it sux bad. Go to your local phone provider in your area.

Will

i have SBC DSL on my main machine and want to connect to DSL in the other end of the house .....i know i can network it pretty easy......but wanted to know my other opitions......plug-in DSL PCI card?? dont know........havent had time to explore yet.....

You could also set up a wireless router (and access points if needed) to share your connection.

You'll need either a crossover cable or a hub\switch Frightcrawler.

Ah. What about if both are running Windows XP, can I connect them with a regular cable or do I still need a crossover one?

Crossover, it's a hardware limitation although gigabit NICs will autosense and automatically adjust.

I don't remember if I posted benchmarks results for winstone tests here, but there are several sets:

Machine as factory settings (win XP home SP1), no garbage cleanup. Hard drive is a Hitachi DK23FA-60 (4200 rpm, 2MB cache)

Ziff-Davis PCMag/eVeritest Business Winstone 2004 ver 1.0
16.1 - A/C operation, power scheme as "emachines power management" (adaptive)
17.4 - A/C operation, power scheme as "always ON"
11.6 - Battery operation, power scheme as "emachines power management" (adaptive)

Ziff-Davis PCMag/eVeritest Multimedia Content Creation Winstone 2004 ver 1.0
13.8 - Battery operation, power scheme as "emachines power management" (adaptive)

As mentioned before, the baseline for 10.0 is a *ell dimension XPS B1000R SE with a PIII coppermine 1GHz, Seagate Barracuda II ST330630A (7200 rpm, 2MB), GeForce DDR.

Ziff-Davis PCMag/eVeritest Business Winstone 2004 ver 1.0
19.8 - A/C operation, power scheme as "emachines power management" (adaptive)
21.2 - A/C operation, power scheme as "always ON"

Ziff-Davis PCMag/eVeritest Multimedia Content Creation Winstone 2004 ver 1.0
26.4 - A/C operation, power scheme as "emachines power management" (adaptive)
26.8 - A/C operation, power scheme as "always ON"

My machine is running windows 2000 SP4, and that was my intention since the first day. Here are the new settings

- Windows 2000 SP4, fresh install with drivers only and basic utilities (CPU-Z, clockgen, etc)
- Included catalyst 3.10
- 7K60 as hard drive

Ziff-Davis PCMag/eVeritest Business Winstone 2004 ver 1.0
19.0 - A/C operation, powerNOW! set as "automatic mode" (adaptive)
21.5 - A/C operation, powerNOW! set as "high performance" (always ON)
18.6 - Battery operation, powerNOW! set as "automatic mode" (adaptive)
13.1 - Battery operation, powerNOW! set as "max battery" (800 MHz always)

Ziff-Davis PCMag/eVeritest Multimedia Content Creation Winstone 2004 ver 1.0
27.0 - A/C operation, powerNOW! set as "automatic mode" (adaptive)
27.6 - A/C operation, powerNOW! set as "high performance" (always ON)
26.8 - Battery operation, powerNOW! set as "automatic mode" (adaptive)
14.5 - Battery operation, powerNOW! set as "max battery" (800 MHz always)

If the previous numbers running XP were impressive, these ones are even better. It even spanks many high end desktops (sorry, an FX with raptors is still out of reach...)

OK...I'll bite.

Haven't done a distributed project program since SETI years ago.

Woo hoo! Any questions, post em in the DC forum (or just in a daily F@H stats post).
EDIT: If you guys want to, use a single username for everyone to show our power (and to get me brownie points ). Just decide whatever you want to use.

Two questions here:

-What do most of you use to OC the Athlon64 CPU? (links plzxor)

-Is the CPU in the machine upgradable?

I just got mine a few days ago, and I think its absolutely great! But as time goes on, its going to show its age, and so Im hoping that some upgrades might be available for it sometime down the line.

However, once 64 bit software becomes the norm, we'll all be glad we invested in the future with this wonderful little lappie.

We use this copy of Clockgen, and yes the CPU is upgradeable.

^However the graphics chip is not upgradeable, and I bet they will include a 128MB Radeon 9700 in the next models, due out in April.

What do you know and how did you find that information?

I believe that this is a Mitac model and supposedly Mitac is not supporting the 9700 according to the folks at Voodoo.

Hmm, some questions:

1. Why does the memory show up as 510 MB in dxdiag?
2. What was your GPU originally clocked as? Omega Catalysts control panel tells me 297.00 core and 195.75 mem. Is this underclocked?
3. 3dmark2001se with AA off score: 8899. Good or bad?
4. Is it wise for me to take out the battery? I keep hearing conflicting reports about losing a charge, etc. I dont travel much with it, so should i just take it out?

Thanks guys.

well, the graphics chip being non-upgradeable has been apparent ever since Kingofl337 opened up his case a while back. I dont exactly remember where but check the forums (either this site, hardforums.com, notebookforums.com, etc.) If i find that thread Ill link it later.

as for the next models being due out in April, I heard that from a
tech-support response someone over at notebookforums.com posted

And by the way, the model isnt Mitac....i believe it is made by Arima

Adding speculation, the new Voodoo 860 was released today. Good speakers, better widescreen LCD and 9700 128MB. With 1 gig, dual format DVD burner, 3 year warranty, kickass paint job - $3700.

Considering that the current Emachines are cheaper versions of the Voodoo 855 I wonder if there will be something like this from Emachines in April (and roughly $1500 cheaper as the 6807 is(was)).

I am very close to buying the M6805.

Ive been seeing that people are buying from both BB and CC. Which place has the best deal, currently? I know some people got it for like $1299 after rebates, but right now at BB's website it says $1549 after rebates, and $1449 (if i remember correctly) at CC. Are there any uber sales coming?

Also, before i do this, should i wait for this alleged new eMachines athlon64 model coming out in a few months? Do you guys think it will be under $1600?

Thanks.
