Question:

When I try to play games, like FPS' on this, it's difficult because it feels like my mouse movement is lagged. Like I could move the mouse really fast, but it won't really move that fast.. like it caps out at a certain speed or something, and my desktop never did that.

Tough to play, a friend said it might have to do with the refresh rate of the screen or something.. is there any way to change that from 60?

Any other ideas to alleviate this problem?

Hey just a quick reply to all those inquiring about getting new rubber feet. You should be able to find some generic stick on feet in the hardware department of Wal-Mart, or any hardware store for that matter and possibly at craft stores like Hobby Lobby.

BTW, I started reading this thread because I just got a call from Best Buy saying my old laptop (2 1/2 years old, covered by 3-year service plan) is dead and unable to get new parts for it. So I get an equally priced laptop for FREE! And of course due to the natural progression of computer hardware, I will get a much better system, namely the e-machines m6807. I'll pick it up tomorrow.

Also, I noticed some people concerned about the quality of emachines. Well, until I was promoted in my full time job 6 months ago, I did pc repair out of my home to supplement my income. I worked on probably an average of 3 - 5 computers a week and I think I remember working on 1 emachine in like 2 years! Almost all were HPs and Compaqs and Gateways, some Sony's, and even a couple of Dells. Now, I read in an article that emachines is the 4th largest seller of laptops so it's not like there aren't emachines out there to be broken. And everyone I know who owns an emachine (most people I know build there own desktops, or have me build them one) loves there emachine and never have a problem with it. Therefore, I'm going with emachines.

My GUESS (very much a guess without delving deeper) would be that you are having this problem because the game is over-stressing your video card. Your problem will probably only be alleviated by turning down the graphic options to lower quality settings.

I just bought the M6809 last night. So far, I love it.

Although, this morning, in the Best Buy add, they now have $300 in rebates for the M6805. I'm getting $250 in rebates for the M6809, so I'm not taking this one back.

Thanks for the tip on where to get rubber feet. I was starting to think I had to live with only one rubber foot.

Does anyone know if there is a " generic " broadcom driver for this thing? I have tried reinstalling the wireless with the provided old as dirt driver but i still get disconnections from my cisco ap350 all the time, like every 2 mins. The ap says that I am getting to many rts retries but im getting great signal and my work laptop with a centrino card sitting right beside it works great.
If not, can you replace the card with another mini-pci card like a Senao prism 2.5 card? If so does this laptop already have internal antenna to hook the internal card to?
Thanks!

Try the HP drivers I linked earlier in this thread. They work perfectly for me...

Anybody else noticed that the M6805 and M6809 seem to have been discontinued and replaced with the M6810 and M6811? Main difference seems to be a step up to the 3400+ processor...

Just picked mine up today. Does anyone know of how to get a BIOS update? I noticed emachines has NO support downloads that I could find on their website.

As far as I know, no BIOS updates are available. Driver and BIOS updates seem to be Emachines' one very weak area. Heck, they don't even list my laptop in their support section at all (the M6807).

Does anybody know who makes the mobo in the M6805? If somebody feels like opening their's up, it might be printed on the board. Unless it is made by Emachines themselves.

ha, no wonder BestBuy is offering $300 rebate on 6805.
Well, seems the only difference is CPU upgrade.

The computer is manufactured by a Taiwanese OEM manufacturer called Arima. I presume they make the motherboard, although I wouldn't take my presumption as a guarantee.

They were unveiled today - I know because I was visiting their site yesterday to check the price for a friend who's considering a laptop purchase. These new machines weren't listed yesterday, but are today.

So yes, I am sure the Best Buy discounts are to clear stock for the new machines.

It looks as though there is a typo on the Emachines page for the 6811. They list the 3400+ running at 2.0ghz. They also list the 3200+ running at 2.0ghz. I'm guessing that the 3400+ is actually 2.2ghz? I wish they did an upgrade on the graphics but the 9600 should still do a nice job overall. And for the money.....it looks like it still can't be beat!

Man, I can't believe I just bought a M6805 and it's already outdated.

Well, I checked Arima's website and they have laptops that look and have specs just like the M6000s, but they also do not have any downloadeable updates.

Hey everybody!

I am considering the m6809 as a new lappy. I am not an avid gamer but I would like to play some of the newer 3d games especially Doom 3 and was wondering if anyone has had any gaming experience with this machine and if you think it will handle the new Doom? I get mixed info from a 7500 card up to a 128 or 256 meg card requirement to play this game. Does anyone think this machine will not be able to handle the new game? I was really impressed with they bus speed of this machine and figured that will offset some of the video card requirements. Any thoughts?
thanks

It will run Doom III but you'll have to turn some of the eye candy down. Half-Life 2 should run a bit better.

Man! The only big thing I wish they'd replace is the video ram...maybe even make it user-upgradable. If they dropped 256 megs or even 128 megs in there I'd buy it ASAP. Everything else can be upgraded...wireless card, hard drive, ram, etc. Oh man...m6809 with 256mb of vram...*drools*

The m6809 models I see in the store seem to have a dimmer display screen than the other laptops...is that right? It has the Best Buy software running on them and won't let me exit out to Windows, so I can't tell if it's just because the brightness isn't turned up or because it's just not a very bright screen. The viewing angle is pretty good tho, way better than my brother's Compaq laptop. Anyone notice the dimmer-ness when they bought theirs?

Visited Best Buy's website tonight...looked at the m6809:

Price before:
$150 mail-in rebate
$100 mail-in rebate
Our Price: $1,649.99

Correct me if I'm wrong, but $1650 - $150 - $100 = $1400.

$1400 for the m6809...it's getting closer and closer to my little college laptop budget...whoo hoo

The M6807 (identical screen) is plenty bright enough for me, actually makes my eyes ache on full brightness in a dim room.

I believe the video card *is* upgradeable, the problem is finding a video card to replace it since they only sell to OEMs. Since Emachines will upgrade the second RAM bank if you return it to them, I wonder if they'll upgrade the video too if they start selling better video on a higher model?

I would not say current 680x is outdated --- at least not for another year.
The new 681x has slightly faster CPU (that's all), but the difference is really marginal and I doubt anyone can feel it from day-to-day apps.

If only had they put 5400RPM hard drive, 512 x 1 RAM and DDR400 and 128M video RAM ....
