Yes; they have 14 day price protection on computer products. Just take in your receipt.

I have nothing against new members, as all of us have been new at some stage. In fact, some new members make an immediate splash when they are knowledgeable.... but I guess you have to read a little more before to increase your post count from the actual 14.......

Back into topic:

Business winstone 2004 ver 1.0 on A/C: 17.4
Business winstone 2004 ver 1.0 on battery: 11.6
Content creation winstone 2004 ver 1.0 on battery: 14.6

I haven't run winstone battery mark yet, but the battery lasted 2:40 running content creation winstone for over 2:10..... Keep in mind also that the battery is rated at 4400 mAh @ 14.8 (aprox 65.5 Whr).... a small battery for a DTR laptop.

DTR laptops aren't supposed to have huge batteries. They are supposed to be on a desktop not so much mobile unpluged time. Plus the Dell 8500 only has a 48whr batery.

I think BB has a 14 day price guarantee, so you can go back and get the lower price. The only possible limitation is the MIR's may not be eligible since the actual price of the computer hasn't changed.

If you get more bad pixels definitely return it. It seems the 15.4 and 17 notebook LCDs are more prone to bad pixels.

I thought it was the opposite my friend..... because they are already big and heavy, why not a bigger battery? In addition, how do you feed the hungry beast with a small spoon?

My nearest Best Buy store was able to "exchange" my laptop so I could have this week's date on the receipt to be eligible for the additional $150 MIR. Nice service.

I need advice! I just bought the emachines athlon 64 lappy and I noticed a dead pixel near the top center.... it's out of the way and I probably won't notice it but still, it's a dead pixel. Also, I checked the model number of the hard drive and noticed that it's a hitachi travelstar 5K80 which is a 5400 rpm part. Should I take it back to best buy and get another laptop to fix the dead pixel or should I keep it for the HD?!? This is gonna drive me crazy.
BTW.. I got BB's 3 year warranty thing so i'm covered as far as returns and repairs.

You're not going to notice 1 dead pixel there once you forget about it. If you take it back you could get something worse. Then you're in for a circular attempt at getting a perfect display and a 5K80. I would just forget it and take a deep breath. Some people have brought 'dead' pixels back by massaging it with a toothpick. Didn't work on my display. I have 3 dead pixels on my 2000FP but you know what, now that I've forgotten about them (it's been 3 months) I don't even know they are there unless I run a test pattern.

Connoisseur,

Is it dead (black) or is it stuck (red, green or blue)??

Try getting a q-tip and gently rubbing the area where the pixel is, and see if it revives it. I have done this on a couple of panels

My laptop has a "stuck" pixel (green), to use this terminology. Are you suggesting that there is a difference between the way a stuck vs. a dead pixel responds?

I tried to get one of those suckers, M5312 to be precise, two weeks ago at my local Best Buy without much luck. The first machine I got had a DOA CD/DVD drive and a few dead pixels so I returned it. The one that I got in exchange had a few more dead pixels and the screen was all wavy, so back that one went too. Now Im not sure if this was just extremely unlucky, or BestBuy was just trying to sell returend units, but I just returned the second one that I brought home and settled on the Inspiron 8600 that I originally had my eyes on.

Well, they're all "defective", but AFAIK, dead means it's always stuck off, ie black, and stuck is when it's a colour. Dead means all 3 sub-pixels are dead, whereas with a stuck pixel it will only be 1

You can try the Q-Tip method on all, they might be able to be massaged back to life

I just bought an M6805 yesterday at Best Buy. I haven't opened it yet, because I'm trying to determine which extended warranty is better, the emachines one or the best buy one.

I was able to get Best Buy to pricematch their 3 year extended warranty to the one on the emachine website and therefore got the Best Buy extended warranty (3yr) for $189.

However, I'm not sure if I like this statement in the agreement:

Technological advances may result in a replacement product with a lower selling price than the original product.

However, here is some stuff I don't like about the emachines agreement:

[*]Laptop Notebook protection will pay for labor and parts necessary to replace your laptop notebook screen should it become inoperable, but not more then twice over the term of the Contract.[*]Claims are limited to a cumulative amount of $1000 or two repairs over the term of the Contract, whichever comes first.[/LIST]

However, this statement in the emachines agreement refutes the statement in the best buy agreement that I didn't like:

We will repair your Product, replace the Product with one of equal or greater value, or reimburse you for authorized repairs, at our discretion, when required due to a Breakdown, including those experienced during normal wear and tear, which is not concurrently covered under any other warranty or service contract or any insurance policy.

I guess I think the Best Buy warranty (even with the statement I am not happy with) is better than the emachines agreement because of the $1000 cap and the 2 repairs over the life of the contract statement...wait a minute...does that make sense? The emachines product page has this statement:

A "No lemon" policy - if your product requires more than three repairs we will replace it FREE

How can they make this statement if they'll only allow two repairs over the life of the contract?

Does the eMachines extended warranty even make sense? If so, which warranty would you rather have?

I put in my order for the m6805 a few days ago, and reading this thread brought some questins up:

-Could you buy the upgrade version of XP Pro and put it on this? (This is probably a dumb question)

-How hard would it be to replace the hard drive in this unit with something bigger/faster?

-What would you reccomend for a replacement hard drive?

-I purchased mine from bestbuy.com, how can I track my order? (Hitting the "Track this order" button just tells me that the order is still being fulfilled, 4 days after I filled it)

Thats all for now. Hopefully I got the right laptop.

Hi,

I hope this helps everyone with the "running at 793 mhz" issue when unplugged. Try rolling back your processor driver in Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager and turning power to always on or home/desktop. Not sure if this has been posted before but it will cause the system to run at 1.8ghz all the time. Obviously battery time to suffer.

Use clockgen to change the CPU speed as desired

Foor the person asking about the hard drive, look no further than the 7K60

I posted these numbers at the AMD forums, but I will repeat them here:

Business Winstone 2004 ver 1.0 on A/C, 4200 rpm disk: 17.4
Business Winstone 2004 ver 1.0 on A/C, 7200 rpm disk: 21.2 (desktop spanker )
Business Winstone 2004 ver 1.0 on battery, 4200 rpm: 11.6 (not bad at all!)

Multimedia content creation Winstone 2004 ver 1.0 on A/C, 7200 rpm disk: 26.8 (desktop spanker )
Multimedia content creation Winstone 2004 ver 1.0 on battery, 4200 rpm disk: 13.2

Battery life of aprox 2:40..... battery rated at 4400 mAH @ 14.8 V (aprox 65 WH).. not bad at all!

For the winstone 2004 tests, the baseline (10.0) is a P3 coppermine 1 GHz 133 FSB.

Just a quick question. I was running 3dmark on my M6805 and checked the specs on the CPU through "System Info" and noticed that it said I have 1MB for my L2 cache. My eyes kinda popped out cause I thought all A64 3000+ only had 512k. Not that I'm complaining but can anybody explain why?

Also, I downloaded clockgen and ATITools to O/C my CPU and Vid and I got the cpu to 2.005 Ghz and the vid to 430core/230mem (could go more but i'm playing it safe. I ran 3dmark2001 on it and I'm only getting around 9850 as my top score... I hear a lot of other people are getting around 11000. Now this is a fresh install of windows XP with nothing else running in the back. Anyone help me boost my score?

Do you have AA\AF on? Also, make sure you have the latest drivers installed. I used the Rage3D MobileMod to mod the original Catalysts to work on the mobility chip, but the Omega drivers will work without modding.
BTW, which version of ClockGen did you use?

EDIT: Used the version for the FIC VIA board, works like a charm.

AA/AF is off. Using the latest Omega drivers (4.10) and ClockGen doesn't seem to be the problem... (I checked the CPU speed with system manager and WCPUID). Could it be that I have the 4.10 drivers? Some ppl are saying that they decrease performance quite a bit... I dunno. Just frustrating I suppose.
