Flashed, works! I can watch DVDs again with no lockups! but the battery is the same as with the NSF03P0 bios. It says its at 0% and doesn't ever change. Wonder if there is a way to have windows recalibrate my battery.

A format might fix the problem. I will let you know if it does. I will do a format when my RMA box shows up from eMachines and see if that fixes the battery problem BEFORE I sent it to eMachines.... and before I flash my bios back to my original that came with my M6807

Hey, I just got my M6805 a couple weeks ago, and I love it, but I am having a few problems, I have skimmed through most of this forum, but I didnt see anything that really helped. One problem is that I am having little purple lines or just pixels come up for certain shades of colors, well, actually its quite a few shades, it happens on anything, movies, games, pictures, the XP taskbar...everywhere. If I turn the color to 16bit instead of 32bit, it fixes some of them, but there is still quite a bit. I called Emachines and they are going to fix it, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had that happen. Emachines sounded really confused when I told them, they said they had never heard of that happening, Im not sure if its a problem with the LCD or what, I have also tried all of the different video drivers as well, none of them seem to help. Something else, I have installed 3DMark05, and it barely runs, it goes at about 3-5 frames a second, the score not even breaking 1000. Anyone know whats up with that??? Im confused. Thanks if anyone can help.

Also, thetxstang, could you send me the new BIOS, my email address is PhantomGhost(at)comcast.net, Thanks

PhantomGhost, I just e-mailed you the BIOS. Please post whether or not it fixes the very slow frame rates you are experiencing in 3DMark05. What a weird issue. I haven't heard of that one, nor have I heard of the purple line/pixels problem you cited. At any rate, I hope eMachines is able to fix it for you ASAP.

Thetxstang, thanks for sending me the BIOS, I put it on just now, it didnt fix the frame rate problem though, I really wish I knew what was causing it...after I get my laptop back from eMachines I am going to format it and put XP Pro on here, start from scratch, see if that fixes it. Should I flash the BIOS back to the original before I ship it back? Thanks again.

The really slow frame rates in 3DMark05 are prolly just the computer. In 3DMark01 I would get something like 9500 with no overclocking. With 3DMark04 I would get around 2800 I believe. Its just a new benchmark suite so chances are its meant for even higher end systems then what we have. I will run 3DMark05 on my M6807 with the new bios tonight and get a # for you and see what I get.

Ok, Thanks fizi, I was wondering if that may have been it, I just didnt think it would be that low, I mean the highest frame rate I have seen is 7 and thats just for like a second, I think my best score was about 850 or so, Im curious to know what score you get.

fizi, a quick question for you: When you successfully flashed your bios using the NSF04.P0 file I sent you, did you happen to append a .ROM extension to the file name before you flashed, or did you simply select the file in WinPhlash with the file name as it was?

I noticed some of the other bios files on the bios website have a .ROM extension appended to the file name, and it seems the .ROM extension is commonly associated with bios'. When I captured the bios, I simply named it "NSF04.P0" (obviously) within WinPhlash, but WinPhlash didn't auto-append a .ROM extension to the file name (as I had sort of expected it would).

I ask because I received an e-mail asking how to flash the bios since the file "is in .P0 format" and not in a .ROM format. I've explained to them that the file is not in .P0 format; rather, it's just the file name using the name of the bios in question.

Thanks in advance for clarifying!

thetxstang, I used the file you sent me, NSF04.P0, and WinPhlash worked fine with it, it doesnt have to have the .ROM extension, you just choose the file as is and WinPhlash can do it. Also, I put 3DMark01 on and tried it, got 9500, so fizi, you were right, it was just the newer version of 3DMark, thanks

Ah, great, thanks PhantomGhost for the info! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't sending out a bios that would render people's laptops useless.

I flashed the NSF04.P0 BIOS and it gave me problems with my sound. I had no sound. So I flashed it back to what I had and it works. Anybody else have this problem?

I haven't found a fix for the battery problem yet. I am waiting on my RMA box from eMachines. When it gets here I am going to backup my data, format this box and put WinXP Pro back on it. See if the battery problem is fixed, if it is I will let you know either way. Once thats been accomplished I will crack the seal on my restore CDs and restore this thing back to WinXP Home and fire it off to eMachines to get some new hinges. Hopefully it will come back with maybe NSF05P0! If it exists

I just left your file as a .P0 but I coulda renamed it to a .ROM or a .MOOSE and it would have worked.

Edit: Oh and about the sound. I used to have the problem where every now and then on a boot my sound wouldn't work. A cold boot would always fix that problem. I was recently having a problem using Ventrillo and CS:Source at the same time. Ventrillo would go nuts 100% CPU usage and the PC would be useless. I fixed that problem buy getting the newest Sound Card Drivers (Release like 1 week ago).

Try flashing your BIOS back again to the NSF04P0 again and installing those suckers, see how things go after that.

Will do. I'll let you know what happens. Also, I have a MX510 that I use on my 6909 and I decided to install the Mouseware software. Well, it wont let me change the button mappings. I googled and didn't find much. Someone recommended I uninstall the Synaptics software and try that. Any thoughts?

Have you tried just using the 'Mouse' settings in the Windows Control Panel?

We need to start some kind of force to get 64 bit Wireless drivers, everything went smooth on a 64 bit Windows install except that, and I'd really like Windows 2003 64 Server on this machine

IDK about 2003 Server, but I want 64 bit XP, and that needs wireless drivers to be worth anything to me.

Hi all.

I have been reading throughout the thread and have decided to post these questions.

I have just returned my Sony FR-130 laptop to best buy for the 4th time. It is lemon... Has been a nightmare since got it.

Anyway, to my question...

I have to get something comparable inprice to what my Sony costed new. the best (and one of the few) laptops at best buy was the m6810, A64 3200+. I noticed a cracked left(looking at the screen orientation) on the display model at BB. I can see that this is apparently a very prominent problemwith the e machines 68xx models.

please correct me if I am wrong.

buy the Computer, send it directly to e-machines to fix the hinge(when it breaks), then get it back? Also how has the hinges held up form those who have has the hinges replaced?

I also have looked and no drivers on e-machines web site, but I was able to see there are a few (one maybe?) with Winders 2K on it, so that is encouraging.

Info would be appreciated, since I can not afford more down time and another problematic computer. A cracked hinge would be an issue for me. The laptop will have to spend once a week ina back pack.

thanx, and I will be continuing to read this thread...

Yeah, the hinge issue is a pretty big deal with the M68xx series but eMachines has been great to those who have contacted them about it. The left hinge on my first one cracked, so I took it back to BB and got a new one. Now on the replacement the left hinge has cracked all the way and the right hinge has a hairline crack in it. I'm going to try to wait until around Christmas to take the thing back to BB and get it replaced.

As far as drivers go, look at the first post in this thread, there's links to just about every driver you'll need. Most XP drivers should work on Windows 2000 without a hitch. I actually have a strange itch to go back to Windows 2000 on my desktop, but I'm leery of issues I've heard it has with HyperThreading.

Thanx MDE for the /* Very */ quick reply. I run 2K on my desktop, but that is a Athon 1800+ runnning on a 333Mhz but, at 2000+ ratings ( I forget the exact mhz, i am not near my desktop). Stinks since you would think they(manufactures) would use quality plastics. I used to make molds (machinist) for plastic parts 'til many jobs went over seas... most junk now, but at least I am able to be back in school working on my BS in Electrical engineering, Electromagnetics. that is why this laptop is attractive.

Hopefully the hinges will be modified with a babbit, or some other soft-metal bushing. That would most likely be a cheap, and permanent fix.

Athlon 64 should whip the heck out of CAD programs (mainly spice sims) and stuff like mathcad

NP, I'm having a small fit of insomnia which sucks because I have to be in class at 8AM. From what I've heard, the repaired hinges look like the military has gotten hold of them and put tank armor on them .

I'd imagine that a CAD program would eat up RAM like nobody's business, so I'd upgrade the RAM on yours to at least 1GB, if not more. Also, a 7200RPM hard drive would help out if any swapping occurs. The 4200RPM drives they use are _DOG_ slow.

class on Saturday, ouch!
4200 was on my Sony, not too big of a deal. memory - you are right, they are memory hogs, which is why I need (well, would be extremely nice) to have a dedicated video card. I hate shared bandwidth, not to mention the loss of system memory.

Well, get some sleep, o/w you'll be sleeping in class, 1:37 here in New Mexico.

Now just have to wait for the "Lemon" to post. looks like bad timing, i will only get the $100 rebate.. but it coud be worse. thank God I got the warranty.

PS I am on mhy GF's computer, she has one of those roll up keyboards. My thoughts, thaey are too darn hard to type on. I do not need any help with my typo's
