Looking for info on the USB ports on the M6805... ever since nuking and paving with XP PRo I can not get the laptop to come out of standby by using the USB mouse or keyboard. Before I nuked it worked just fine? Is there a special program I need to load from the Emachine discs?

Tell it not to turn the USB off in the device manager. If USB is off, it can't exactly be used to wake the computer.

The "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" is grayed out when I look at the USB in device manager. I can check the "Allow computer to turn off this device" but that is it.

After I got my laptop back from eMachines, it had the new bios on it, NSF04.P0, and I have had a few issues with it and was wondering if anyone else has had them. Has anyone with NSF04.P0 been able to overclock the video card or CPU and get it to stay? Everytime I do, it seems to work, I close ATITool or clockgen, and then check the settings, either with another program, or reopening clockgen or ATITool, and it is back to the default settings. Has anyone seen this? Also, this one I am not sure if anyone would know about, I have a simple little game, pocket tanks deluxe, Its nothing big or special, but when on battery power, it lags like hell...and I cant see any reason why it does, it didnt do it before the upgrade to the new BIOS. When on AC power it runs fine. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated, Thanks.

If anybody else has had any luck with this, I'd love to know how you did it!

Wai! Lay Ho? So Gak Lan Gweilo here

You can PM within a month I believe of your purchase?

This is a common tactic when you know something will be on sale the following week and might be sold out on the day

Just go back to the store you purchased it from and they will do the honours for you.

My venerable M6805 went back for dual hinge surgery today. Hopefully I'll get it back soon. Class is gonna suck having to stare at the ancient 15" Dell monitors they have. Not to mention that my Dad took it back before everything finished copying to my desktop.

I bet the gateway machine feels faster because of the drive they used. It's probably a 5400 vs a regular 4200.

I'm thinking about exchanging my m6810 for that 7405GX. It's alot nicer with the XBrite screen, 80GB, and DVDRW for pretty much the same price.

I got the BB warranty and cracked hinges and it's getting looser. Seems justified, no?

Yes, it is one heck of a deal, just call before you get your hopes up. I understand the eMachines are no longer DEVO as of this past Monday, meaning no more exchanges .... just repairs.

Yep, I hit the brick wall and caved in and sent it to eMachines.

Doesn't Best Buy's extended warranty state that after the initial manufacturer warranty has expired, if they can't fix it, they will exchange it? Can Best Buy actually repair the cracked hinge problem?

They just send it to eMachines if it's still under warranty or probably replace whatever is "user-serviceable" if it isn't. If it's something major they'll just exchange.

eMachines got my laptop back to me in no less than FOUR days including shipping both ways. Kudos to E's warranty service.

I just noticed that they flashed mine to BIOS version 0F05.P00, I haven't noticed any problems at all, and it is still reporting as an M6805 in System Properties.

What BIOS version did you have before you sent it in? Also, it seems strange they reverted it back to 0F05.P00 instead of "updating" you to NSF04.P0 (or newer).

I'm still unable to locate the Gateway 7405GX on Gateway's website.

I'm not sure. I never really paid attention because everything worked correctly .

I've been running Seti@home 24/7 on my M6809 since May - no problems. I'm still running stock - no bios upgrade, no upgrade graphic drivers, no extra ram - stock, stock, stock.

By the way -- my desktop eMachines ("Main Frame") finally died so I replaced it with a new eMachines T3256 ($600) it has an AMD Athlon 3200+ processor, 512 MB of DDR333, NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX, Windows XP Home (SP1). I ran AquaMark 3 just for the heck of it - a pathetic 5,760.

Compared to the M6809's 25,000+ (o/c video) --
Sure what can I expect for $600 bucks?

Swap out the GF4MX and it'll be a lot better. I've been running Folding@Home on my M6805 since January without any problems as well.

Aloha MDE,
Yes I know - it was your earlier post about running 24/7 that I was replying to - always forget to quote earlier messages.
Also, my 6809 is running quite cool even with video o/c (353/220). The only thing I worry about is the AC adapter - it gets toasty. I have it on a ceramic tile to keep it slightly cooler.
So far no problems at all with my 6809 except, of course, cracked hinges. Since I live in Hawaii, replacing the hinges would require mailing to the mainland USA and back and chancing shipping damage as well as, perhaps, a new monitor screen with problems (mine is perfect now). So, I'll live with the cracked hinges. Bought this puppy in April or May and I'm am still stoked by the performance at this price.

eMachines will send you a laptop shipper box to ship it back in (overnight prepaid shipping both ways) and mine still has the same screen, just a different cover.

To anyone who purchases a product at Best Buy or Circuit City or similar retail outlet: The price is guaranteed for 30 days. 30 days is pretty standard. You may also return and exchange within that time frame if it is defective. I think most stores will charge a restocking fee for laptops if you return for a refund unless it is defective. I exchanged a 53" HDTV at CC three weeks after I bought it for no charge because it went bad. They even came by my house to drop of the new one and pick up the old one.

This is one of the advantages of purchasing from your local retail store instead of by shipping. Not to mention the exitement of driving home from the local BB with a new toy sitting on the back seat! I purchased three different open box special digital receivers and returned them until I settled for one I liked. Most of these stores sell the big ticket items at very competitive prices too. They make their main profits off the little stuff they try to push on you when you buy the big stuff. $40 for a cable, $100 for a laptop carrying case, $400 for an ATi Radeon 9800, etc.

After you buy something make sure you check the store fliers or drop by once a week to check for sales for at least one month.

Last March I purchased a Canon digital video camera from a retail discounter in Florida (walk in) and after taking it home I went on the Canon website and found a free offer for a 64MB memory card with the purchase of this camera by filling out the online rebate form. The retail salesman wasn't aware of this manufacturer's offer and didn't inform me of it.
