Yeah I did format but you know I'll check the restore cd and see if it has the drivers somewhere readily available. Thanks

Well im sure everyone is aware of Gateway buying eMachines...what I'm wondering is what will this mean for us, the consumers? eMachines has just become something of a upcoming dark horse in the laptop market, with their excellent M68xx line, but Gateway has not been a major player for some time. Will eMachines degrade in quality, or will they continue to rise? Either way, I hear that this means price cuts on their products, but that depends on new (if any) product lines.

Does anyone have any insight into this area? I am asking because I'm considering buying the M6807, but if things will improve greatly in the next 6 months I want to wait a while. However, I dont want to look back a few months from now, when the 68xx line was the best thing they ever made, and is no longer available...

From what I've heard, the CEO of eMachines will run the show over at Gateway, so expect Gateway to transform into eMachines, not vice versa. I wouldn't hesitate to buy now.

I second that. Heard the same news. And besides which, much of Emachines success is attributed to the fact that it IS a value seller. I don't see their prices getting cheaper.

Of course, having said that, if you have the luxury of waiting months then you may get a cheaper price just by virtue of market forces. I had been searching months before this baby came out. First week I crossed the border from Cda and picked it up. *G*

looks like you are out of luck benz...it seems like circuit city only sells m6805 now; no more m6807.

eventhough the m6807 is till on emachine's website, when you click to buy or find a store, you won't find a retailer that sells it.

^well, not necessarily. The CC's in town may still have them in stock, its just not showing up on the website. and then as a last resort you could prob get a display model.

Either way, this bothers me (the sudden dissapearance of the 6807 from stores, etc.) It definitely has something to do with the merger, but im hoping it means new models will come outsoon, and not that this was some kind of 'fluke' model that was underpriced or something. I still dont need a laptop yet, but im trying to watch this whole situation closely to get a feel for the next few months.

Hi everyone, have my M6807 for 3 days now, my machine seems to run really hot (almost to the point where it is uncomfortable to place on my lap), anyone else experiencing this, and is there a built in temp sensor? I could not get motherboard monitor to register the temp. Should there be an audible fan or felt airflow from the vents? Don't have that either....

OK I know nobody wants to here the deadpixel issue, but I have one, and it is only visible when the screen is red, barely when white. Knowing that this item is out of stock everywhere (got it at CC) what is everyones opinion? Suck it up and live with the dead pixel?

Thanks!

If you block the ventilation holes, it will get VERY hot. Try placing your legs on the sides of the laptop instead of the middle, or use the accessory box that came with the PC (looks stupid, but works beautifully). On the stuck pixel, you'll have to suck it up, 3 pixels are the minimum for a replacement IIRC.

Circuit City will replace it if you call them with in the 14 day period, but I would say dont bother. With how few of them are out there you might not get one in as a replacement, and when I had them order a new one for me, that one also came in with a dead pixel.

New Poster -- Linux Specific
Received my m6807 two days ago. Had no problem lpoading Fedora Core 2 x86 test (aka 1.90) but it runs problematically.
Had ZERO luck loading Fedora Core 1 for x86_64--couldn't get past the media check screen, keyboard non-responsive.
Reloading with Fedora Core I x86. I'll post my results shortly.

FWIW: no dead pixels, Hitachi 4200 RPM drive

aquamd,
If you still don't have any fan noise (which should almost always be there) take this poor broken down DOA box back to CC pronto and demand a replacement!
Fan should make noise even if it's on your lap.....

i have had my m6805 for more than 2 weeks now, and i noticed about the 800MHz speed when running on batteries...
...does speedswitchxp work to fix the 800 MHz when on battery (i've read in some posts that this work)?? i tried installing it and the speed still remains at 800 when on battery....i can uninstall the processor driver to make it full 1800 but i want to have the processor to adjust the speed depending on the need...but speedswitch just doesn't do it....it's flat rate at 800.....i haven't tried clockgen yet though...any inputs please????is there no official fix as of yet????

...also for clockgen? does it have an autorun setting so that i just install it then forget it???

It's time for a new subtopic: Monopoly?

It seems that BestBuy is pretty much a monopoly right now. (at least in my area )
This means they can raise their price as they please...Now they have the price $100 more than the emachines price. And I cant price match because of: "If, within 30 days* (14 days for computers, monitors, printers and notebooks, camcorders, digital cameras and radar detectors) of your purchase from Best Buy, you find a local competitor (excluding Internet competitors)"

Also, even if I COULD pricematch, they would just say that since they are the only sellers in our area, we cant pricematch them. (Emachines doesnt sell direct)
I'll figure something out.
-------
Another thing is the warranty - which one is better? The emachines one is ALOT less (about 110 less than the BB one?)

Help is appreciated on this particular question.

I would just hold out on it, seems like something is going to be introduced this weekend or early next week. But for now, BB has a monopoly. They've had their prices on the 6800 series screwed up for a while now, but they have done that with several items in the past too - which is why I avoid that damn place.

Oh yeah another question, Will they allow me to pricematch warranty? It would be great to have the BB warranty for $189.

Well, I think I'm buying a 6805 tomorrow. I was looking for something totally different, and happened to see that at CC for $1549 with a $250 rebate. Sounds like too good of a deal to pass up.

Good thing I'm divorced. Nobody to nag me about this!

The eMachines warranty doesn't cover the screen, and has a 2 time\$1000 limit IIRC.

The good thing about BB warranty is that it is a performance waranty and it covers batteries. It has replaced a battery for my sony FXA-49 (athlon 1.2) and before the warranty runs out i"ll probably get another one.

I have had my M6807 for a couple of weeks and I love it. Burned a couple of DVD's, played some dvd's on batteries and made it through them, partitioned the drive for dual boot (xp 64 bit -waste of time) and storage. resized the 64 bit partition to about 6 gigs, will probably delete it soon and recover it for storage. It has been on for a few days currently and is still cool. It sits on an old National Geographic Atlas of the World and it fits on my lap with room to mouse. I use an optical, not much for touch pad,(although it does have some versatility) will use it when i'm traveling, Fan runs 5-15 seconds every 2-10 min while i'm using it, depending on usage.

no dead pixels, 4200 rpm travelstar drive
CC 1450 with rebates

would like a 2nd battery, the sony with dual batts is about 4.5 hrs. up time with 3.0 & 3.2 amp hrs
to save power when traveling i'll rip the dvd to the hard drive.

PanHead,
That depends on how your DSL is set up most of the time it is with an EXT dsl modem and you use a RJ45 or cat 5 cable to connect to the modem and away you go. By the way who do you have for DSL if it is AOL you may want to leave it sux bad. Go to your local phone provider in your area.
