What do you know and how did you find that information?

I believe that this is a Mitac model and supposedly Mitac is not supporting the 9700 according to the folks at Voodoo.
These are Arima ODMs.

You are correct guys. I saw the picture of the Voodoo Envy:M860 and the machine is undoubtely ARIMA.

The M6805/6807 are based on Arima's W720D-K8
The voodoo envy:m855 is based in Mitac's 8355 design, which is the most used so far (all the second tiers are using Mitac's design)
The new voodoo envy:M860 is based on Arima's W730D-K8

So, I guess it is safe to say that the next eMachines will be based also in the W730D..... mobility radeon 9700 with mobile clawhammer 3200+, 5K80 standard and WSXGA+ is my bet

TeAm Anandtech Folding@Home is getting our asses kicked, we're dropping in the rankings pretty badly. How about the M6805\7 owners make our now-massive presence felt and start crunching for the TeAm? One machine can make a pretty good impact (an XP 2200+, 2500+@3200+, and mobile A64@2.0 get me to about #10 in the daily rankings), let alone all of these. Whaddaya guys\gals say? Oh yeah, don't be shy about using your desktops to crunch either!
Come on guys, only one person willing? I finished the guide and posted it in Off Topic. Any questions can be asked there (we need the bumps since the mods won't give a sticky). The guide.

MDE,
Er, had to send my m6807 back today. The display was defective. Admittedly, it would still make a good compute server, but it makes a horrific laptop with no display.

3. 3dmark2001se with AA off score: 8899. Good or bad?
4. Is it wise for me to take out the battery? I keep hearing conflicting reports about losing a charge, etc. I dont travel much with it, so should i just take it out?

Thanks guys.

Hmm..anyone have some answers?

ShallowMonkey,
You will have to let us know if you have any dead pixels when you get it back from RMA

I just got an M6805 and my battery has some play in it. It moves up and down when i push on it even when its locked. Its not real bad but noticable and when unlocked its very noticable. Anyone else have this problem? Other than this I love it.

I am not sure exactly how bad your battery moves up and down, but mine has about a millimeter of play.

1) DXDIAG isn't supposed to be accurate, and mine does the same thing.
2) That's the right speed
3) A little low, but not oddly low.
4) No clue, I just leave mine in all the time

Ouch, that's never good. Couldn't you have taken it back to the store though?

Problem: Why isn't windows XP reporting my processor as AMD Athlon 64? DXDIAG reports it correctly, but 3dmark2001se reports it as AMD <unknown>. PCPITSTOP shows this:

Brand/Model eMachine Shadow-K8
Type Desktop
Serial Number N3042 300 04176
BIOS Phoenix 0F02.P00 12/17/2003
System Board eMachine Shadow-K8 KBC Revision: 3307

Processor

Brand/Model AMD 1586
Nominal Clock Speed 1800 MHz
Measured Clock Speed 1800 MHz
CPU Load 1%
Speed Rating 6103 (100% of 82 similar)

-----
A) It says AMD 1586.....? Why?
B) It reports it as a desktop...

Any solutions/similar experiences?

3DMark probably hasn't been updated to recognize the A64.
PCPitstop probably hasn't updated their database to show this as a desktop.
Don't worry, it's fine. I promise

Hey, recently installed Halo on this machine, and there are no textures on any of the models, except for the guns! Anyone else having this problem?

I just wanted to let everyone know that Emachines has finally put the batteries for the systems up on thier website.
$119
Does anyone know if there is another battery that would fit though?

FWIW, WRT battery in or out:
BestBuy always removes the batteries (or they walk away) and their demo machines seem to be working fine (last I checked.) It would probably extend the life of the battery if it were only inserted periodically (say every two weeks or so and then used.)

eMachines customer service experience:
I called customer service (something I avoid like the plague) so that I could return my m6807 due to the bad display. I found their customer service:
a) responsive
b) sharp
c) decisive
They had me jump through the normal hoops: boot in vga/safe mode, reload video driver, reload windows. But they had every step finely honed and we covered everything including the reinstall of windows in under 20 minutes. 30 minutes from the initial call, I had my RMA #. 40 hours later I had a prepaid shipping box.

<blathering>
I haven't worked with a return this smooth in a long time. I will continue to do business with eMachines (whom I've previously cursed) as they are rock solid on their customer service. The only minor ding is that it is not a toll-free number (but at <4 cents a minute long distance, I'm not complaining....)

This sure justifies the merger/acquisition with Gateway. This could end up being "the" company that can meet/beat Dell. </blathering>

Is the chip shown a "mobile" Athlon (or just a basic one for notebooks)? Can it be easily installed (and will the bios work) in my M6805?

For what it's worth, the specs for the M6809 are now shown on the J&R Computer World site. I guess they will carry it and the M6805. The specs are clearly wrong as they say that the ATI Radeon 9600 comes with SHARED memory (dumbasses). The specs are the same as the M6805, it seems, except: 3200+ processor, 80 GIG hard drive (probably at the lame 4200 RPM, but it doesn't say), 2.4X (IIRC) DVD+R/RW drive. Price $1649.99 from JandR.com Such a deal! Also, it doesn't say what kind of screen the thing has, which leads me to assume (especially at this price point) that it has the same screen as my 6805.

Nice to know that if the only difference is the chip, the disk drive, and the DVD-drive, the first two are upgradeable. Still, having just paid BB $1649 last week(grrrrrr....) for the M6805, it sucks to know that I could have had the DVD writer, a faster chip, and a somewhat bigger drive for the same price.

All the best,

Bill

PS Still loving my 6805, though.

I see that many people bought the m6805 for $1299 after rebates. As far as i have seen, this sale no longer exists at BB or CC (i cant even find them any longer on CC's main site). At BB they are $1449 after rebates, at least going by their main site. Does anyone know if the prices will go down again any time soon?

well, i took the plunge and finally justified getting the m6805 (i just really wanted a kick a** laptop)

fyi, the bb in woodbridge nj had 3 m6805's left when i picked mine up at 6pm and the rebates are valid for the 1299 price (i have the rebates in hand and am going to fill them out)

i saw that someone posted the updated drivers for the m6805 and i would like to say thanks! (now though, why aren't they listed on emachines web site?) are there any other sources of updates for this?

I get the VIA 4-in-1s (chipset drivers) from VIA Arena and the video drivers from ATI, but to use them you'll need to download the Rage3D MobileMod. The automatic installer won't work, so you'll have to use Device Manager to install the driver and manually execute the Control Panel setup. If that doesn't float your boat you can always get the Omegas
