If you find anything out regarding the wireless connection, please let me know. I am having the same problem you are with a belkin 802.11b router. I might pick up a 802.11g router and see if I have the same problems but for some reason I think it will be the same.

Which problem(s) are you having? The Fn-F2 not working? If so, changing wireless router definitely won't change that...

Hey Gweilo,

Sorry for not getting to you sooner. That is a pretty odd predicament you're in. I haven't been able to reproduce it on my side.I just thought of another thing. if you goto your Device Manager and select 'Network Adapters' and then goto your 'Broadcom 54g...' properties. Under the advanced tab, there's a setting called 'Radio Enable/Disable'. Make sure it is set to 'Enabled' (whether you're online or not). I'd also recommend leaving everything unchecked under the 'Power Management' tab while you troubleshoot that.

I'd also recommend you set the 'RF power state' in the BIOS to 'Restore'

Like I said, I haven't been able to reproduce your situation but I'm hoping if you mimic my settings, it will start to work for you. I just hope its not a hardware problem. Have you tried talking to their Tech Support? If anything, they're online tech support??

Nope, sorry, the reply was meant to go to the wireless issue. It seems as though things will work great, find my router, then after a random amount of time completely drop out. And it won't pick it back up automatically. I have to go the menu and select my router, then either click connect or ok and close the box then it immediately comes back.

Sounds like a router rebooting issue that I've heard about. However, I've only heard it on with the 11g products and at times, their interaction with 2.4GHz wireless phones. Have you been to Belkin's site to see if they've released any new firmware for your router to fix the problem??

Yep, it's an older router, one of the first 802.11b routers belkin put out. The router doesn't reboot becuase if it did, it would take a lot longer to come back up. I will come back as quick as I can click connect. And yep, I do have the latest firmware. that's why I figured I'd try a different router and see if it exhibits the same behavior. Any other ideas on what it could be?

Hi, I just bought the M6807 and I am quite pleased after working with it for a few days. And I've read almost every posts in this topic and I really learned a lot on my notebook (overclocking, benchmark, various issues...). My notebook has one problem: the video stutters (lags) when I play games like Natural-Selection (a Half-Life mod) and War Craft 3. It skips from frame to frame majorly when I play Natural-Selection online, which makes the game almost unplayable. It isn't so bad for War Craft 3. Counter-Strike works perfectly. I set all the settings to medium and tried resolutions at 800 x 600, 1024 x 768 and 1200 x 800. All these games work decently on my desktop with a 32MB GeForce 2 GTS. I shouldn't expect any problems with the 64 MB Mobility Radeon 9600. I also tried using ATI catalyst 4.3 with omega driver, and saw no improvements. Then I contacted eMachines technical support, and the person's only advice was to reinstall video driver from restore CD. Tried that, and didn't work. Any suggestions?

Hi Everyone,

Great forum! I fot my M6805 a week back and have been very impressed with it. One problem i had was with getting WPA/TPIK to work. I am seeing some weird behavior.

I had WEP first and then i read about WPA-SPK. Turned it on on my DLink 54g and then was able to turn it on my m6805. Everything worked great. Next morning, i turned on the machine and i had no wireless connectivity. Now i simply could not see the option to run the WPA on!! The drop down list with Open, Shared for auth did not have WPA anymore!! I tried doing a bunch of stuff ( reinstall drivers, windows update etc etc) and nothing worked. I gave up, switched back to WEP.

Later tonight, i see the WPA option available again!! This is really weird. btw, the wireless manual for the m6805 says it supports WPA.

Anyone else seen this behavior? Any explanations?

Thanks!

Hey, welcome to the forums,

After you try the above, turn off Wireless on your laptop, unplug the router for a few seconds and plug it back in, Turn on wireless laptop and see if it's an option again. I take it that you did download the WPA update from Microsoft's site, right?

Regarding your siggy, I guess, for you, it does work the first time....it just doesn't work from then on.

sonicc, make sure you have the latest via hyperion mobo drivers. It def made a difference in performance for me. Heh took my 3dmark2001 scores from 7000 to 9500 at default settings. Also get the latest vid card drivers. I seriously recommend a reformat first. most laptop manufacturers put a lot of garbage software in the systems before they ship. Umm, you really should be able to run Counter-Strike and WC3 at the maximum monitor resolution with all the settings on highest with absolutely no problem. It's been doing fine on mine.

I just bought a 6809, and am trying to upgrade it to XP Pro. When I do, it loses the 1200 x 800 display mode. All that's left is 800x600 and 1084x700. When I try to install any video drivers, including the ones on the restore disk, it either tells me to install a VGA driver first, or it can't find a device to install the drivers for. When I check device manager, it doesn't even list the 9600 at all! It DID appear there before I upgraded to XP Pro.

Any ideas on what is going on and how to get the device back under XP Pro so I can install the drivers?

ps. This is a great topic. I've read it all looking for an answer and learned more than I knew I needed to know.

Where did you buy the 6809? And how much was it.

Bbc84, I got it at Best Buy, for 1650, with 250 in rebates.

Thanks, MCE, my M6809 from Best Buy only came with one recovery cd. And I've tried a couple times to install those drivers after the XP Pro upgrade. That's when I get the sorry, can't install, try installing a VGA driver instead message. I'm not very knowledgeable in this, but it appears that XP Pro has lost track of the device completely, as it does not show in device manager. Is there another way to locate the adapter? It shows fine as ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 under XP Home, which I'm living with for now, 'till I figure this out.

I downloaded clockgen on my m6805 and overclocked to 1900 mhz. This screwed up my video card and the characters on screen appeared weird and the system became unstable. I couldn't even reboot and ended up plugging and removing the battery. luckily everything is back to normal now.

I dont know much about overclocking and i guess i jumped into it like an over-excited noob.

Can anyone shed some light on this or give me pointers as to how i can learn more? I dont want to damage any hardware... i like this lappy too much.

Thanks!!!

Howdy all, I decided to get the m6809 after reading here there was a fix for the cpu speed slowdown when on batteries. Well, I applied the Q330512 hotfix posted above, set my power settings to 'Always on', even loaded SpeedSwitchXP.....but.....the devil persists slowing down when on batteries. Is there something else I need to set? Has anybody else had this problem with the 6809?

TIA

That's not what the fix is for; it lets the laptop resume normal speed *after* being used on batteries and put back on mains power. By default, there's a bug in Windows that will cause the processor to stay at the lower speed even when put back on mains power.

If you don't want the processor to slow down when on batteries (and are willing to take the hit in battery life), just go to Control Panel: Power Options and set your laptop to "Always On".

I did that, but it didn't keep it from cutting the processor speed in half. Thanks for the reply tho.
