Hey just thought I'd mention something that I THINK I may have discovered. It seems as if though the integrated soundcard in this board is incompatible with battlefield 1942. I was having some problems with it. Everytime I would try playing BF1942 the system would reboot itself (No BSOD) as if I had hit the reset button. It started happening to me right after I installed the v1.2 patch. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling, but that didn't fix anything. I then came upon a forum that where the person posting was being kicked to the desktop. He said that the integrated sound card was his problem. I figured since he had an Athlon XP processor ods were he had a VIA chipset with a realtek S.C. so I disabled the onboard soundcard (in the BIOS). I installed a SB Live! XGamer that I had from my previous rig. And now I have been able to play without reboots.

Well guys I finally got a working system built. After a long fiasco with MWave getting a replacement 8K5A2+ board I've finally got my 2400+ running and successfully overclocked. I think I've found a good sweet spot at 200x11 = 2.2 GHz. vcore is 1.8 and vmem is 2.8 using an SLK-800 & YS-Tech. Memory is running at 400 too at the Turbo setting. Ran a couple benchmarks and this thing is freakin' fast! Too bad I have to go out of town tomorrow morning for the weekend

Im having problems with the highpoint raid controller.

I put a HD on each channel both set to primary, and the controller detects the HDDS and the just sits there, like its doing nothing, but when the hdds arent in it detects no harddrivers and continutes booting. the controller worked before but then I took out the hdds and i switched them from slave to maseter and might have switched which on was on the primary controller and whcih was on the secondary.

anyone know what could be wrong? both hdds work fine in the ide channels

btw the LED shoes "86" whenever it hangs up after detecting HDDS, but the manual just says its "reserved" anyone know wtf that means...

VIA has released new 4in1 drivers today.

VIA have led the way in pioneering the unified driver set. The VIA 4in1 drivers, often known as a VIA 4in1 service pack have been the mainstay of VIA systems for years - optimizing stability and comparability. Today (10 December 2002) is an historic occasion, as VIA changes the name to VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers and launches the driver set, optimized for performance for VIA's latest chipsets. The name Hyperion will most certainly supercede the name 4in1 all together in the future, but "4in1" has been kept in the name for identification sake. The version numbers also continue on from the 4in1 driver series so as not to confuse our customers.

RE: Thermal Diode Temp Readings / Acceptable Levels

I've got a 2400+ running 200 FSB x 11 that maxes out at 52C according to MBM. Case temps are 26C. I've got an SLK-800 with a 48 CFM fan. Are or are not these temps in a respectible range? I know the board has built in shutdown protection with the on-die diode so I'm not too worried, but what else could I do to bring these temps down without putting my Tornado fan back on it? Does anyone really swear by lapping their heatsinks any more these days?

Here's one for any of you Epox 8k5a3+ owners.. Highpoint has released v3.01 bios for the HPT374 which now supports RAID1+0 (as opposed to 0+1) and RAID5. I have modified the 10/25/2002 Epox 8k5a3+ bios w/ the 3.01 bios for the HPT374. You can download it here. You'll want to get the hpt drivers from here.

I haven't had a chance to flash my bios with this yet, but I'll let you know when I do . This flash should work fine, though

I ordered from them once. The web site said in stock, but was not in stock for 2 weeks. I cancelled the order. My friend tried them, same thing. I would not consider buying from them ever again. Maybe try newegg or mwave They get good marks ratings
