The BSOD error message I windows XP setup displayed was revealed to me with the NEW Retail CPU.
I thought that the Abit KT7 Raid & the Iwill KD266 wouldn't boot because they are too old. Both of them use PC133 SDRAM (They don't even support DDR, so I thought maybe an XP 2200+ processor would not be compatible with these MoBo's.)
Considering the last BSOD message I got,
***Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
***The System has halted***

I imagine something has to be deffective.
With no support from the MoBo manufacturer (Except for their irrelevant generic email reply), and the apparent abundance of faulty devices I don't know what else to do except try a new (different) motherboard.
Ruroni, I had a slight problem while installing the CPU. Here is the snippet from my previous post on this thread:
2. while installing the cpu into the socket, i found that i had to press down slightly on the end of the cpu while relatching the release lever so that all the pins stayed well in the socket. without doing this it seemed that the cpu was getting raised out of the sockets a little at the end near the step. is this a normal thing?
You might want to try reseating the CPU while keeping this in mind and then try again. Another thought is to ensure that you have clean power in your location. though the power supply should take care of fluctuations, it can sometimes be too quick and too large (in either direction). try a ups or check the power supply from the outlet.
