I have a 1600+ XP AGOIA running at 333mhz FSB and 1725mhz total. I'm using Samsung PC2700 Ram. The only problem I have had with the board is the onboard sound. When I have my headphones plugged firmly into the Green port I only get sound from the right side...when the plug is loose (I would say 75% plugged in) I get Stereo sound. Tried many headphones and the same thing. Anyone have suggestions?

Sorry to be dense, but what does that mean exactly? I'm pretty certain I have the wires and pins all matched up correctly.

I just upgraded BIOS to 8RD13305 and it works fine. Just 54 minutes of Prime95.

Just another thing. When I overclock CPU (T-Bred B 1700+ 11x133 default) to, say, 9x 166 = 1500 and my DDR333 memory works in sync (2x166) what else is overclocked? Northbridge? Southbridge? Or just CPU?

Wojtek, when you run the CPU FSB at 166MHz with the memory synch. at DDR333, only the memory and CPU are running at that speed. The rest of the system is running at spec. That is, PCI is locked at 33MHz and unless you manually changed the AGP speed (you can, but why?) your AGP bus is running along at 66MHz. This is a perfect situation.

Btw, I too am running at 166FSB and DDR333 and this is where I'm staying. Call it the best bang for the buck. CPU and memory are very fast and the CPU stays cool (the CPU is set to 1.65Vcore) so I can continue to use my quiet cooling solution. Very nice.

What about Northbridge? Should I provide better cooling fot it? I did some tests and EPoX showed CPU temp 41 Celsiuc and mobo temp 32C while memory had 42 C. All temps under load of Prime95 with CPU running at 10 x 166, memory 2 x 166. I would like to stay with these settings (maybe a little more, say 11 or 12 x 166MHz for CPU) and I wonder what should I do to ensure smooth and errorfree running of my system.

Best Regards

It has been shown that you only need to improve NB cooling if you approach the 200MHz FSB range. I did pull my passive cooler off and replace the TIM with some Antec Reference (ASIII equiv.) but that is just my preference. It was NOT required.

I'd say your system is fine just as it is. Feel free to bump up the multiplier, but make sure your CPU is cooled properly.

OK.
Thanks for help.
I'll try some more testing (Prime95 for the night) and probably stay with these settings.

Just put together a newegg 8RDA+ V1.1 has C1 & A3 stable @ 220FSB, just testing right now (trying to find the right timings for my corsair?), nothing is modded, the manual says CRUSH 18D chipset!

I am using the SW drivers right now and have had no problems? they seem to be working fine with the new chipset so far?

This mobo ships with higher voltage 1.60 VDD and needs no mods as it easily hits 220 FSB with 35C mosfets,NB and SB my highest reading!

Now to go as high as I can 250FSB I will be modding NB & SB & mosfets, VDD MOD?, then wait for hacked bios that allows over 250FSB?

I will be selling my twin sticks of corsair pc3200 soon as i need to upgrade to pc3700 very soon?

mcveigh, did you try clearing the CMOS yet (I imagine you did)? Another possibility is to hold down the Insert key before and during power-up. More details on the parts, particularly the RAM and power supply, could help steer us straight. In some situations a low-rpm or variable-rpm fan may throw the board for a loop too, so if you have such fans, might be good to unplug them from the board's headers as a troubleshooting step.

If that's not helping, try the board outside the case with just the essentials (video, keyboard, CPU, 1 stick memory), and if it won't cooperate after that, then confirm that your parts work in another board. If they do, I'd RMA the board.

I've tried clearing the cmos, changing the FSB jumper, I tried it out side the case, and have left the power unplugged for serveral hours as well. no change. I also tried it with only 1 stick of ram (various slots) and cpu/vid card

all hardware is currently running fine in an asus A7N266-VM

ram, 2x 256mb crucial PC2100
cpu AMD 1600+ XP
300watt enhance powersupply
40 GB maxtor HD
ati 7500 radeon

Time to bail and get an RMA, looks like. I've been there, done that, unfortunately, because my 8RDA+ did the same thing (except I didn't RMA mine). Good luck with the new one, maybe you'll get a newer revision!

What did you do in the bios setup? try removing the bios chip and battery and set cmos to clear, now put the chip in first then battery and set cmos jumper to normal and fire it up!

Has anyone had any trouble using a 4600 with an 8RDA+? I'm seriously looking at this board, but I'm afraid I'll screw up mounting my 4600 and fry it.
