I use nforce drivers for everything, including IDE, the onboard sound is more than decent, and this board is very stable, makes me an epox fan

is there a consensus that the 8rda3+ is worse than the 8rda+ (I have the 8rda+)?

alright everyone, i have a quick question

The board revision that i have right now is REV: 1.1

I was planning on upgrading my processor to a AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 333fsb "Barton"

HOWEVER,

i was wondering if the Epox 8rda+ boards are compatible with the 400mhz fsb 3200+ AMD Barton processors. I was curious because i was fooling about in the BIOS in the Advanced Chipset settings and noticed that it has an option for me to choose 200mhz for my fsb frequency. Does my board support the 400mhz fsb 3200+ barton? Thanks guys!

I can't get my new epox 8rga+ to even post. Can't even get to the bios screen. Have tried crucial ram, spectek ram, kinston value ram. Well, a couple of times it let me into the bios and that was it. Would never boot up.

Is it the ram? Other ideas?

Thanks.

I have an 8RDA+ motherboard and it looks like my 3rd ASUS Geforce 4 Ti4200 video card is starting to go (same model). I've also lost one memory stick too. I built this PC last September and after loosing the one memory stick and 2 video cards, I'm beginning to wonder if my motherboard is to blame. Perhaps it is overvolting? I am running everything stock settings in spec etc.

What is the best program to use to check temperatures with the 8RDA+ motherboard?

I don't know which is the best, but I use SpeedFan

I used an 8RDA+ to assemble a PC for a grandkid, and it seemed to be running fine, except that some software I wanted to install wouldn't recognize that Dx9 had been installed on it, and a couple of other programs acted badly as well. Some symptoms seemed similar to a fluctuating power level, so I swapped psu's. The frequency of the recurring symptoms that looked like power problems was reduced, but not completely cured.

Wasn't Epox among the companies that got taken by the mislabelled low quality capacitor problem when these 8RDA's were still new? (This is really a huge, long thread; forgive me if my rapid scan through it missed exactly what I need, please.) I've looked at all of this MB's capacitors, and seen no bulges or leaks, but is that totally conclusive? Is there a particular Rev Nr. to watch out for? What symptoms do the capacitor failures display?

It's funny that you should post this concern about the capacitors. I was cleaning a pc for a friend last night, a pc that I had built for him a couple years ago and found 7 or so caps that appear to have leaked. I have the same 8RDA+ mobo as him and this morning decided to check mine although I had never noticed anything before. Mine too has leaking caps. I'm going to contact Epox come Tuesday for a possible fix for both boards. Although I have been considering a move to the Athon 64 I still wouldn't want to buy a new mobo for my AXP.
If Epox refuses I'll either try to replace the caps myself, just buy a new board, or give ebay a gamble for a replacement.

I never did sort out the conflict between MS' Crimson Skies game and Dx9, if that's what it was. I tried some other Arcade quality "flying shooter" games as well. Problems with those, although not about DirectX, so I'll be pulling out that PC to bring it back here to perform more exhaustive testing than I can do where it is now.

I have a slightly less powerful (KT-266A) MB in a really old mid-tower enclosure as its replacement, with some heavy cooling mods (the only convenient place for my grandson to play with a PC there at the home of his day care provider, and not have a couple of smaller kids pestering him, is the uncooled garage, and then only in the mornings during summer {this being Texas, after all}, and a garage is nowhere to spend time in the afternoon here in June or July!). I'll add another side panel fan to the case he's been using with the current 8RDA+ while I have it here, and a more efficient heat sink as well, in case he does decide to play on an afternoon!

One thing I hadn't realized was that the model number sequencing from Epox is different from what I expected. I've now acquired an 8RDA-3i from an eBay auction, and I really had thought that I was buying an upgrade version of the MB I'd already used. Apparently, the -3 uses different nVidia chips. One has the MCP-T with the Sound Storm, and the other seems not to.

Reviving an old thread...

EDIT: Never mind

I just got a motherboard back from Epox after replacing the capacitors. It was past the 2 years guarantee but they did it as a PR courtesy. The one I send had a serial number beginning with -030327 whereas the one received began with -030127. Is this the date of manufacture? If so, what was the date when Rev 1.1 was released? There's nothing on this board that says the revision date.

I have another to send in with an -030320.... serial number. I think I'm gonna ask for a newer rather than an older manufacture date if they can't send back the one I'm sending in. I want what I have, Rev. 1.1.

Well, the second of my 2 8rda+ RMAs has arrived and 3 of the new caps have a white powdery material seeping from their tops. I'll contact epox today and post their reply.

(Like a bump) Although this old (and HUGE) thread seemed to have died last August, there has been a new thread recently from a happy Epox MB owner saying how inexpensively (his shipping cost) he got one of these fixed in January of 2006.

Do I remember another Epox Socket A thread that was specifically about the RMA's for the bad capacitors, and the procedure that Epox wanted followed? I think so.

I have this thread in my watch list because of the pair I tested a year ago and couldn't use. I never did work out why I was unable to use them, but both were eBay low-bid bargains, so maybe they gave their prior owners some subtle problems also, but I thought that the way Epox extended support to its users in such an exemplary fashion was worth remembering.

Is this thread relevant to an 8RDA6+Pro owner? I've skimmed through, but I don't want to dig in-depth if someone who already knows that it's not can save me the trouble. The "6" in the model number refers to the six SATA ports IIRC, but the "3" version is the same board sans the SIL3114 RAID controller (RAID 5 capable!). I purchased it primarily for native GigE while being able to use the Socket A CPUs and DDR400 memory I had lying around. Native GigE and SATA on an NF2U400 board means no SoundStorm APU and no native Firewire though (Via 1394 chip added).

The 8rda+ I pulled from service a few months ago is the only board I have ever seen where all of the capacitors except the sanyo ones next to the cpu are bulging/leaking(even the smaller ones next to the ram and pci slots). Amazingly enough the board was still running fine(no slowdowns or random freezing yet), it was only a matter of time though, hence why I pulled it(well, actually talked a relative into an upgrade ). Still have it and debating if throwing $30 in caps(and time) into it would be worth it.
