Portugal deserved to win by much more than that, they totally dominated the game, but stupid Ronaldo missed 2 blatant opportunities... FFS most overrated player ever

He better do something decent against Holland or Id rather the coach just take him out

I thought Denmark played well. They just failed to match the desperation of the Portugese in the 5 minutes leading up to the goal.

And what a sloppy ass goal it was. The shot was a well-struck seeing-eye shot, but the mofo whiffed on his first attempt, freezing the goalie.

As much as I like this German team, I'd rather them lose and there to be a 4-way tie on points so we see some great open matches in the last round.

What I'm taking from this so far is that Portugal is a better team that people thought going in.

They made Germany look pretty bad for most of that game.

So Holland is officially the biggest disappointment of this euro... Quite shocking to see a world cup finalist get taken out in the group phase

Now I just hope Portugal can steamroll them as well :awe:

I'm a little confused:

I saw on a site not too long ago (I tried finding it again, but I can't) what each team in the death group needs to advance, and it seemed to state that Germany needed at least a tie to advance, while Denmark and Portugal automatically advance on a win. Did I misunderstand this?

Germany has a +3 goal differential, while the other two are even. Wouldn't that come into play? As long as Denmark doesn't blow out Germany and Portugal doesn't blow out the Dutch Germany would still advance with a loss, wouldn't they?

No that's wrong. Germany is guaranteed to advance with a W or D, Denmark would advance with a W, but Portugal could win and still not advance (although unlikely). If both games end in draws then Portugal advances since they beat Denmark.

Germany has a +2 goal differential overall not 3, but that does not matter cause if there is a three way tie then only the games between the three tied teams count (so their +1 goal against the dutch wouldn't matter.) They would win the group with a win or draw as they would have more points than both POR and DEN

Denmark would automatically advance with a win. If DEN wins and POR does not, DEN would be ahead of POR on points. If POR also wins, the DEN would be guaranteed to finish ahead of GER (they would be at worst tied on goal differential but guaranteed to be ahead on goals scored, which is the next tie breaker.)

For Portugal, they will probably advance with a win. If they win and DEN loses, they would be ahead of DEN on points. If DEN also wins, there would be a three way tie. Portugal is level on goal differential in games between them and DEN and GER, and has 3 goals scored in those games. If GER loses by more than 1 goal, POR would advance with a higher goal differential. If GER loses by 1 but scores at least 3 goals (so like a 4-3 or 5-4 loss, GER would advance on total goals. If GER loses by a score of exactly 3-2, then it would come down to POR score against the Dutch, if POR scores at least 2 goals against the dutch they would advance on either overall goal differential or overall total goals scored.

In the event that Germany loses 3-2 and Portugal wins 1-0, then the sides would be level on the first 5 tiebreakers and Germany would advance on the 6th tiebreaker, which is the UEFA coefficients (rankings).

If Germany shuts out Denmark and the Dutch beat Portugal by more than 2 goals the Dutch could still squek through, unlikely but still possible

Sweden vs England is probably the most interesting match I've seen so far.
