Greece and the Czech Republic are through to the quarter finals.

How the heck did Greece manage that? :O

Greece is an annoying team: they just defend with everybody behind the ball at all times and hope there's gonna be some loose ball or a slip in their opponent's defense. That's how they won 2004 Euro with 3x 1:0 victories in the knockout stage after being inferior in just about every category apart from goals in every single game. And once again, Russia dominated, and Greece won 1:0. It's sad for football that this works so often, hopefully someone will smack their butt...

Quite surprising after the lopsided win by Russians against Czech R. in the first game to see Czechs advancing, and Russians going home.

The Russians (a scary team) being eliminated by the Greeks is almost like Weihnachten for the Germans, assuming they win their group.

I can't see them losing 2-0 to Denmark

I hope portugal dies in a fire.

Bahaha! Holland got owned... They played like crap after the first goal, our commentators were even saying they were glad Holland scored first because Portugal took over the game ever since

Seriously, Portugal could easily have won 5-1 or something, if our forwards werent so retarded, and of course it was a good thing C. Ronaldo finally woke up

Now unless some cataclysm happens, Germany and Portugal will definitely trample over the competition and go on to the semi finals

On other news, looking forward to Spain - Croatia today... It would be funny if they drew, because then all 3 teams would have 5 points :awe:

Anyway, pretty obvious the final is gonna be Germany - Spain and Spain will probably win again -_-

Goooooo Croatia!!!

Not to win, but rather a draw at 2-2 because both Croatians and the Spanish aren't particularly fond of Italians.

A near-riot in Poznan, Poland, as Croatian fans taunted Italian fans before their match (which would end a 1-1 draw) today, burning an EU flag and parading far-right flags of their own, as well as other incidents, including flares and a blow-up sex doll wearing an Italian team shirt.

So who's rooting for a 1-1 draw between Spain and Croatia and a 3-1 win for Italy?

I think that would step the tie-breaking criteria all the way down to step 7 or further between Italy and Croatia. (assuming that guy's info, and my reading of it is correct)

If I understand the tiebreakers correctly, 2-2 or any higher-scoring draw will doom Italy.

Can't believe they missed the offsides and the handball by Spain to score the goal...

Not to mention a clear penalty on Spain a few minutes earlier.

That first half tackle by Ramos was a very clear penalty as well as the hold on Corluka when he beat his defender to get the header in.

That wasn't an offside, though. Navas was offside on the first pass to Iniesta but came back onside as Iniesta stepped in front of him.

Sucks to see my country fall out I thought they played really well all tournament and what did them in was that first half against Italy and a missed penalty call. Such is football

But Navas was clearly involved in the play (breaking in on the goal) on the inital pass. I thought that a player basically had to take themselves out of the play to not be affected by the offside ruling.

That was totally lame... And Italy ended up winning only 2-0 so Croatia would have passed even with 0-0 draw

What a load of bull

The player can't be involved in the play directly. This means you can run alongside the person who isn't offside until you're back onside and wait for the pass. If, for instance he was blocking the goalie's vision while being in an offside position during a pass or shot on goal then that would be waved for offside.

There's also the Jelavic goal that the Irish weren't happy about but that wasn't offside either. In that goal Modric put a pass in while Jelavic was offside but because it wasn't directed towards Jelavic and the Irish defender scuffed the clearance and was the last person to touch the ball the goal stood and the player was onside.

I'm pretty sure Italy would have continued and Croatia would be tied with Spain for more consideration, based on higher number of goals scored in matches among the teams in question (#3 in the criteria)

esp vs ita: 1-1
ita vs cro: 1-1
cro vs esp: 0-0
esp: 1, cro: 1, ita: 2

Czech Republic vs. Portugal in less than 30 minutes. My prediction: Czech Republic will win 2-1.
