I have the EVGA 680i in a Silverstone TJ06 inverted case (MB is upside down with CPU on the bottom) and I have the Zalman 9700 And it was about 1/4" to 3/8" past the bottom of the case. So I took my $80 Zalman and bent the fins apart till it fit. I bought it for cooling not for looks so I didn't mind doing it. It fits fine and doesn't look bad with the fins spread apart at the bottom. And it keeps my CPU at around 37c under a medium to heavy load.

About to receive my 680i, new memory, and E6400. I have a PSU with the 4pin 12v connector on it (well, 2 of them) and was wondering if I should use both on the 8pin 12v CPU power connector on the board, or just one. It's slightly unclear in the manual. It says 8pin is recommended, but 4pin will work - however, it does not say whether you should use both of your 4pin connectors or just one.

Thanks for any help.

yup you cant use the XP-90 nor any of the Scythe coolers either.
the XP-90 uses a backplate. if you dont use the back plate and just use the screws. it will flex the board really bad and lifts the PWM heatsinks right off the pwm and pretty much makes the heatsink useless.
the xp-90 backplate also hits the resistors thus cant use it.

the Scythe infinity cant be used cuz it hits the NB heatsink. that just pisses me off to no end as the scythe is now a ****** paper weight.

i am on my 2nd eVGA 680i and neither one can boot at 450mhz FSB or higher.

absolutely freaking retarded. my god damn DS3 was bootable at 500fsb. and this freaking board cant even do 450.. wtf kinda crap is that.

im so tired of wasting money on worthless extremely buggy conroe boards. jesus.. wtf is wrong with these a-holes making these boards.

So, it sounds like this board (the eVGA) isn't universally heatsink friendly, at least not with the massive high-perf ones. It looks like the Zalman 9700 will fit...any others? I'd like to have a great heatsink for my new E6700 C2D, but I just want to be certain it will fit on the mobo...

EDIT: After browsing through the eVGA forums, I found this thread containing 'fixes' for a few heatsinks. I see the Scythe Ninja can be used with minimal modding...but I thought it was about the same size as the Scythe Infinity, which apparently hits the NB heatsink. Anyone know if the ninja can indeed be used while the infinity can't?

Any luck on the SI-120 working with the optional 775 attachment you can buy from jab-tech or xoxide? My Nina will fit, but I'd rather not have to mod the motherboard to get it to fit.

I think you just have to cut a bit of the Ninja's mounting plate to make it fit; no motherboard modding is necessary afaik...

Just wanted to check something before I think something is wrong; do you need to install the MB drivers before the NIC port becomes available?

Well that would be a oh thank god moment. For some reason my optical drive won't recognize the EVGA disc (although Ive tried on it 3 different comps and installed other drives in as troubleshooting and have had less than a 100% success rate with those) even after it installed OS fine and recognized several other disc I tried. Was just going to hop over to their website and d/l it, but couldn't get the net up on the new comp.

Correction on the Zalman 9700. I had to mod it slightly to get it to fit. I had to spread the fins apart to gain another 3/8" . In my particular case the mother board rides almost flush with the case and the 9700 extends about 3/8" to 1/2" past the edge of the mother board.

Anyone know if there are any other northbridge heatpipe solutions that fit this motherboard? I hate the idea of using one of those 200,000 rpm vacuum cleaners.

few days ago, i hook me up with a intel C2D, with the evga 680i mainboard, in the begining i was very uncomfortable with the bios, i did the update, and i was trying to take practice with then. the only problem i've encounter with this mainboard is with the ps/2 keyboard, when i'm playing FPS games, start holding keys on the keyboard like i was doing it, with out touch it. also some failed oc @ 3.6 but is matter of time to stabilize at that speed.

I've managed to overclock my e6600 to 3 ghz with no voltage changes however I started noticing the PS/2 bug. I was getting phantom mouse movements and clicks like crazy so I am back to stock speed for now. An EVGA tech posted on their forums saying they were aware of the problem and were working on a fix a couple weeks ago, I hope it comes out soon!

Are you running the latest BIOS?

Mine still had the PS2 bug on the P23 BIOS. Just pop in a USB mouse/kb till they get it fixed if you have one available.

Anyone else using a Razer Copperheard with this or any other SLI board?

I'm getting real bad mouse problems with it in WoW and the Razer site mentions something about a possible conflict with SLI.

Running the p23 BIOS on my EVGA board now and I am still getting some SATA/RAID problems.. Randomly looses connection to one of my RAID disks it seems, causing bluescreens and lockups if I am using that disk.. Sometimes corrupts data as well.. I can idle in windows pretty safely tho.

I'm gonna return it unless a fix is released the next couple of days.

Have you wiped your drive and reinstalled your OS since flashing to the new bios? If you had previously corrupted data, the new bios will not spontaneously fix those data errors.

No I havent, but corrupted data is not really my problem. When I idle in windows I keep getting an error popup in my system tray telling me the connection to the SATA RAID is lost.. Fairly undramatic, and the connection seems to be restored fairly quick. When I play games from that RAID however it (naturally) causes lockups and bluescreens. The corrupted data is fixed with checkdisk prior to login in to windows the next time. I havent actually lost any data so far..

Just before DFI-Street parted ways with DFI Corp a veteran poster had replied to a comment of mine about the 680SLI. He said there's a strap issue with the 680i affecting memory latency at certain FSBs. Does anyone know whether this issue has been addressed with the P23 BIOS since the link he provided (see below) is dated 12/03? I'd like to know if this is still an issue or if it's been resolved.

I am , and I'm having a few "quirks".

Started a couple of days ago. I would start up my comp, and my mouse would be "frozen". Unplugging it and plugging it back in resulted in a BSOD with no entry in the event viewer. Reinstalled the drivers and reapplied them to the mouse, IIRC the mouse stores the drivers internally and I thought my last drivers might have caused a conflict?

Working better, but still funky issues. Playing CoH, some units ignore mouse commands, which just started. Also getting ghosting in game, not the LCD ghosting: I give a unit a command and the unit moves but a "ghost" copy remains where it was originally in game. Really strange...

I updated to the recent Nvidia video drivers for my 8800 gtx, which severely corrupted my windows config, I had to reinstall XP. Wasn't too happy about that.

I'm digging around here to see if anyone with the striker is getting the problems the evga boards were having with the data corruption. I see there have been a few bios upgrades, but I don't know what they "fix" so I don't want to install them yet.

My comp has been running like crap and its angering me and I can't put my finger on the source.

I just got this board in, and I'm not super familiar with all the tweaking options. I've tried a fair number of combinations including dropping the CPU multiplier and locking the DDR2 at 800mhz. All of the spread spectrum and special CPU features turned off.

The board just doesn't want to go past 460 FSB no matter how much voltage I feed it. Is there something I'm missing, or is this just as good as it gets?

On my last board (Gigabyte S3), I could take the CPU up to 480 and the RAM would go fine 1:1 4-4-4-12 along with it... Hmm...

btw there is a new bios out, P24, that fixes incorrect bios temperature readings and a few other things.

I have a razer copperhead chaos green mouse and notice when system starts up if i move the mouse it makes alot of beeping sounds so I leave it alone on post. Other then that it works fine. I also should mention I flashed it to the latest firmware on Razer site I think its 6.19 ver now. And I am not running SLI wish I were though.

does anyone know if the VIGOR GAMING CLT-M2I heatsink will fit on this board? Ive been reading there are problems with heatsinks that have backplates, as this one does.

here is a link to it: Text
