Fellowship maintained a lot of the same stylistic traits from the hobbit so I think it deserves a PG and I dont think any of the others will get one. I am a bit questionable about the ending of the fellowship though becuase IMHo that rates as slightly more than a PG, bit darker and grimmer than the rest. Depends on how they play it. The fact that they gave it a PG indicates to me that they will neatly sidestep all the gory bits and just have your generic movie offstage deaths which is a bit annoying

Hmm, I dunno..good point. I remember them aiming for PG13 rating...but the director's cuts (on DVD) would have more violent versions. I remember reading that PJ was filming a couple versions of some of the scenes (some for theatrical release, some for director's cut). LOTR doesn't rely on violence, so it should be alright.

BTW, apparently in Canada advance tickets go on sale TODAY at "select" theatres. Since I'll be at home for christmas, i got a friend back home phoning around for me and is going to pick me some up if they are available.

ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE MY TICKETS FOR OPENING NIGHT!!

A friend of mine picked them up for me today and just called me.

I'm in Toronto for school but will be home for christmas holidays, so that's why he got them for me.

They're doing very limited sales for them ahead of time...they were only selling for 3 shows on the 19th and 20th...the rest have to be bought the day of. My tickets are for 8:15pm. So if you're Canadian...CALL YOUR LOCAL THEATER AND ASK!!! Alliance Atlantis (canadian distributor of the film) is only doing this for "select" theaters so call a few places.

I'm gonna get these babies and put them in a frame on my wall until the movie comes out! :Q

<< Anyone else wishing that they had done a live-action film of "The Hobbit" to go along with these? >>

I'm betting it will be a "prequel" of sorts after LOTR is out and finished. I just *HOPE*, if they do this, that PJ directs it. he said he would never tackle a project this large again in his life...but maybe he'd still do one film? Damn I hope so!

Well, it would be a smaller project, as it would be a single film rather than a trilogy filmed simultaneously.

If anyone's looking for an excellent read, check out Wired magazine from a month or two ago. Very in-depth article on the trilogy and the filmmaker's attempts to please both the literary and movie-going communities.

Re-read the trilogy over the last few weeks, after 20 years. Man, it's even better than I remembered!

My only complaint is Liv Tyler...expanding the role of Arwen (sp?) to give her a "meatier" role. WTF??

I can't wait!!!!!

IndyJaws...the change with Arwen really ticked me off at first too. I mean, I'd still rather have it the original way and have the Elf-lord Glorfindel meet them at the Ford rather than Arwen.....but they need a way to reduce some of the characters I guess. It would be harder to keep track of them all had you not read the books. At least this whole mini love story is straight from the appendices. One thing that I like about Arwen though is the voice.. Liv Tyler has the perfect elf voice. I heard a recording of her speaking elvish and it sounded really good.

Oh well, we just have to remember that she is seen on posters as if she were a major character, but she really isn't one. They just advertise her because it's a familiar face.

I will agree about the voice (not to mention those nice pouty lips!)

No Tom Bombadil either, but like you said, you gotta cut down on the # of people or else it'll last hours longer
(not that there'd be anything wrong with that!)

The commercials for Fellowship are indicating a US rating of PG13.

***Important Update******

I was browsing through this bookstore on saturday and I came across several LotR movie books, with lots and lots of pictures from the movie.

Anyway, apart from being totally amazing, realistic and true to the book (which we all know), what suprised me is that some pictures showed battle-ready elves in shining elvish armour (you could tell it was elvish just by looking...it had organic decorations and all) and Elrond at the front, with the caption "Elveish army at the end of the Second age". I don't know about you, but this excited the hell out of me, since we might actually get to see some cool scenes from the end of the second age when elves and men were fighting sauron and we might see Elendil and Isildur and Anarion.....

I've always wondered how incredibly cool it'd be if they did a Silmarillion Movie.....well, this will be close enough I guess....

<< so what do you guys think of the Second Age thing? >>

Originally they were going to open the first movie with a prologue--a narrator discussing the history of the Ring over shots from the Second Age. Then they changed it and decided to show the Second Age scenes during flashbacks at the Council of Elrond (Elrond looks like a badass in that blood-smeared armor, BTW).

I like the idea a lot. The only thing that worries me is their decision to actually show Sauron in his physical form. Sauron's spiky armor and skull-helmet make him look like a stereotypical fantasy badguy (General Kail, anyone? ).

I know what you mean, but what does the Silm describe Sauron's physical form during that period as? I'm thinking the "Terrible Dark Lord" motif is probably accurate, considering:
- this was the physical form that Morgoth eventually was "stuck in" and Sauron was a Mogoth wannabe
- at the time, Sauron was actually in the battle himself with the Last Alliance.

As long as we don't get a good look at his face, I think we're relatively safe - I mean, what do you have Sauron look like?

lol

I always pictured Sauron like this

Seriously, there weren't a whole lot of options for PJ & co. once they decided to show Sauron at all. I just hope that they don't show too much of him...the worst part of Sauron is what you *don't* see.
