Waste Not 2 is definitely more of a niche ability than Careful Synth 2. But I would rate weaver as the least enjoyable to level thus far at least and will likely be noticeably more expensive than Leatherwork for what that's worth. I think they probably make a pretty even amount of level 55 "AF" gear.

Normally I would just use a steady hands + Standard synth (150%) if I really needed it, but 120% on a free synth is pretty nice. I'm not intrigued by waste not2, it seems a bit too situational with all the procs for ToTD and you'd waste good amounts of CP, whereas MM2 has a pretty good CP to DUR ratio.

Does it matter what server you play on? How do you choose?

Kinda...but only because of personal preference. They migrated character data from people who continued playing the original release of FFXIV (which flopped horribly) onto servers labelled "Legacy" servers. So, choose a non-Legacy server if you want on a server with folks who started their characters with this new release. Or choose a Legacy server if you don't mind playing with a server full of folks who started AAR with multiple classes already leveled and inventories/gil transferred from the original release of FFXIV.

I had a Legacy char with every class at max level and 2 mil gil, and thought I was fairly well-off. But some folks are like this dude in my ex-Free Company, who started with 89 mil and tons of materia they were able to convert into whatever type they so desired.

if i knew this i would have saved my shitty materia instead of destroying it to save inventory in 1.0 D:

You're right...I had to check tonight. Weaver just felt like it made a lot more because there were so many extra crafts I had to do to collect all the mats. LOL

Leatherworker actually makes a lot more AF gear if you count the DoL stuff. But the lv50 skill still makes weaver worth going for first imo if you're aiming to level them all.

if i knew this i would have saved my shitty materia instead of destroying it to save inventory in 1.0 D:

Yeah, since the old materia tiers had several possible values per tier, they changed them all to "cracked materia", which you can trade in for a materia of the same teir (you choose the type) or trade them in for philosophy tomes at a special NPC. I had a few pieces, but had I known a little more about materia in AAR, I'd have waited to trade them in. I haven't watched prices for t4 DoW/M materia, but I imagine they've been going up. Cause t4 craftsmanship/control materia prices have more than doubled in just a couple weeks. I might try to sell my melded crafting gear before too long.

50 GSM, and I bought a few pieces of the AF and a NQ offhand to start with. Then I HQ'd my first goldsmith hat with only 1 HQ (the linen) with 80% quality. Pretty nice start!

Then my rest of the night went into crafting linen. Weaver is so..... blarg. They need to sort out this fleece situation, it's either pay out of your ass to craft fleece and felt stuff or craft linen for 20 levels.

I'm doing the latter, burned through about 600 lightning shards in 2 hours just making linen cloths. Think I need to "farm" some diremite webs from quarry mill tomorrow.... too expensive to buy them off the AH.

50 weaver last night, linen deerstalkers all the way imo. I get that dealing with fleece sucks but at the same time there's a few reasonable ways around it and I think there should be some 'rough' parts for every profession. I think the bigger problem is you have the same issue with diremite web early on and then it happens again when you hit wool and felt. Either that or the material ratios could be re-worked. 2 fleece > yarn is ok, but 2 yarn > cloth is troublesome; if wool cloth was something like 1 wool yarn + 1 linen yarn or even 1 wool yarn + 1 fleece I think it'd be more reasonable.

Also the weaver guild quests are ridiculous. I was laughing pretty hard at a couple of them, it's like a lalafell romantic comedy.

Now that weaver is 50 I think it might be time to actually materia my gear. Fortunately I've got a ton of crafting materia collected, unfortunately I want to fill out at least BS/LW/WVR and I feel like getting my 'shared' pieces (rings/wrists/belt/etc) to the point I want them to be will take a pretty obscene amount of materia alone since they only have one socket.

Also I wish we could trade quick synthesis for quick meld lol.

And for anyone not aware you can go visit the Goblin who teaches you materia melding to have materia removed for next to nothing, I think the price maxxes at like 200g per piece of equipment.

Quick question, pretty sure I know the answer. Just want to verify it.

I have PC version, thinking about getting PS3 version for the wife. If I have one "standard" subscription, would we both be able to log in simultaneously with different characters on the same server? Using this website as guide: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/product/

I'm guessing no, but just want to find out for sure.

yeah the 2 woolen yarn -> cloth kills me. One cloth is 4 fleeces! I'm doing deerstalkers too but man, I just can't get enough linen... just burning right through it. I'm dreading all the level quests too... but the weaver one is by far the most interesting quest story I've seen so far. The goldsmithing one was funny at first but then it takes a nosedive.

Quick question, pretty sure I know the answer. Just want to verify it.

If you're planning on registering both PS3 and PC version under one account: no. One account logged in at a time.

I don't believe so, not under the same account at least. I have been meaning to test that with my other PC to confirm, but I highly doubt it.

Eh, the difference in the number of leve quests needed to level between doing the level 40 and 45 quests isn't that great really.

If you figure it's about 2.5M XP from 45 to 50 and you're doing all HQ turnins for the 3x quests, it's a difference of 288k per leve to 351k per leve [(96k * 3) vs (117k * 3)]. 2.5m / 288k = ~8.7, 2.5m / 351k = ~7.1, so it's probably a difference of only two leves.

people have already mentioned that if they added PS3 to their PC account, they only get 30 days of time instead of an additional playable account. I think the answer is a solid no. 1 account, 1 login.

It's pretty lame, in ffxi you could login to pc with your console account and vice versa, i even bought the console version of the first expansion because i couldn't find the pc version and it worked

I think we might be talking about two different things lol. I thought the initial question was whether or not you could be logged into two characters on the same account simultaneously.

I feel like as long as your account status is good you should be able to log in from any valid installation, regardless of device/hardware? Is that not the case?

I can appreciate this might be a confusing question. Hopefully this helps:

Two different characters: one on pc and one on ps3; one subcription, one user name & password, simultaneous.

I'll test this in a few hours when I get home today. I know I can log into the game on both the PC and PS3 at the same time. I've sat at character selection on the PS3 while playing on the PC, and I've switched back and forth to transfer gear sets quickly, but haven't tried different characters. Will try and let you know.

I can verify that it most certainly does not work. You will need two separate accounts with their own separate subscriptions.

I wanted to purchase this game for a while now, but the digital download was disable to prevent overloading the servers... hmmpph. Today I was able to purchase it.

I played the original after playing FFXI for about 4 years. I wasn't very impressed. I hope I can get a years worth out of ARR.

I played FF11 for about 4 years myself and I have to say FF11's world has more history and lore, and it's an overall more intriguing world. I'm not saying this to put down FF14 (which is beautiful and has enough story in the world for you to be intrigued about), but it's just that FF11's world is hard to beat in terms of history, details and features.

Don't compare ARR with 1.0, 1.0 was terrible. They took everything they learned from FF11 and threw it out the window. ARR is a much more polished game and I instantly loved it, despite hating 1.0 with a passion.

You have to have the 30 main class quest done, and then the 15 sub class quest done. Then, there will be a quest show up somewhere to get the job you want.

I say somewhere, because my monk quest was in the Ul'dah goldsmith guild, strangely enough.

I went from lvl 5 to lvl 16 in weaving yesterday. OMG, most boring gaming session ever...

Crafting is so damn slow and boring. Even once you hit level 10 and can autocraft item, its slow. and man, do you take a major hit to xp when doing autocrafting.

doing tradecraft leves helps a lot.
