Last night was the FIRST night I was able to log in, but it wasn't until around 9pm. But the way I got in was very odd. I swear for the briefest of moments, there was suddenly a queue.

I have two legacy accounts on Excalibur (main char Maleko Kekoa btw, if anyone else is on that server), so I was spamming login attempts with both for a few mins, hoping I could get in with one. I would select the char and immediately get the world full message, as normal. Then, out of the blue, on one attempt my alt gets a little pop up stating I'm 280 something in queue. I immediately try my main and the same thing...320 something in line. Flabbergasted, I walk away for a few min break, then return to find my alt has the world full message (wtf) and my main...is logged in! I couldn't get another queue on my alt though.

I didn't get anything accomplished cept trying to get familiarized with the UI. Say...how do you get the ability to save gear sets? There was no icon for it on my character window.

Been having a blast thus far. Crafting is so addictive, I'm doing blacksmith/carpentry/leatherwork together. I've had some trouble logging in mid-day to evening EST but I usually can get into a queue after about 10-20 minutes, so not too bad imo.

Looking forward to more dungeons. Hoping they get a bit more complex/demanding with level.

And I know most people would hate this, but one thing I wish they'd done is make it so the advanced jobs start at level 1 like in FFXI. I always liked that lol.

If there's going to be a queue, it should put you in it the first damn time you hit the button.

And I know most people would hate this, but one thing I wish they'd done is make it so the advanced jobs start at level 1 like in FFXI. I always liked that lol.

I'm with you on that. I'm not a fan of the way they did advanced jobs.

The advanced jobs are ok, some make no sense. Black mage requires a subjob of Archer? Wtf is Yoshi thinking, that was so dumb. I leveled Arcanist in the beta before we knew thinking obviously arcanist would be a thaum sub job, but nope, it's archer.

Well, it seems a little off when you consider archers in their 'traditional' sense, but in practice they actually have some support/magicy characteristics. Archer gets (what appears to be) a pretty large MP pool [for a non caster], support song(s?) without being bard, and their limit break ability is actually a party heal.

Plus archer is definitely going to be a popular 'sub job' anyway, a black mage would almost certainly want to have it levelled. Their +20% damage for 20 seconds buff comes very early and eventually they get a buff that provides enmity (threat) reduction, both very useful to BLM.

Plus, yeah, I'd rather see the job requirements more spread out between the classes like gotham mentioned.

I've been doing EVERY crafting job. It was too fun. I love making new gear for myself, by myself, and handling all my HQs for lower leveled gear. It's euphoric to see my low tier gear replaced piecemail... my culinarian will probably have every single HQ piece available to wear.

Downside is I have no low level crafters to give the lvl 1-10 crafting gear to anymore... Hope they release a new crafting job sometime in the future.

Or I can level another harvesting job. Been grinding away at miner just so I can get some silver ores. Miner is surprisingly rewarding as well, got a ton of grade 1 carbonized matter, more than I'll ever need most likely. (2 stacks of 99)

Double post:

So what's the best way of getting grand company seals? The daily hand ins are great but they reset every 24 hours, so it takes a while. I've been just trying to HQ stuff when I hand it in, and saving levequests for crafting jobs (they need it more than combat classes imo).

I know there's some grand company leves but those eat into the daily leves.

You get seals for FATEs, probably your best bet; some zones have masses of them (West La Noscea comes to mind). Also the GCs provide their own hunting logs which reward XP and seals, though given their higher level requirements and more spread out targets I wouldn't focus on it much.

The button is in the middle top of your character screen. You may need to do the questline for one of your classes through the level 10 quest to get the option enabled, and to also work with armory. It's confusing with legacy characters because we have lots of these enabled already, but some still require the questline to unlock.

oh man thank you, i have been looking on how to save gear sets, its a pain changing to a gatherer and getting stripped naked, then changing to your main class and having to re equip everything again

ah, didn't know fates had them. I hadn't done a fate since getting my chocobo so I couldn't tell. Will try this the next time I see something.

I've been having fun working on culinarian. I think it's going to be a better idea for me to go back to working on my primary jobs though, I've hit the point where I can't skill up culinarian with the raw materials sold by the guild.

ditto with my smithing jobs, which is why I'm leveling miner like mad since I need a lot of silver. I can't do other gathering jobs at the same time as mining though: the one downside of gathering is that it's boring as hell. Doing both miner and botany/lumberjack would drive me insane.

My general philosophy was to level my crafting jobs close to the level of my main class so that I can make gear for myself. Worked out so far, and I convert the gear I'm wearing to materia right away when they spirit bond, then make myself a new pair. I know there's going to be a point where I can't do this, but for low to mid levels its working out nicely.

I'm making myself some scale mail stuff right now... it was kinda nice, but the silly idea came to being when I couldn't queue myself up for lvl 15 instances the first day or 2, so I just crafted and mined.

leveling gathering jobs can be mind numbing, recommended steps are to do leves on a DoW or DoM and turn them in on a DoL, you get the full xp from the turn in

I'd sooner just do DoL leves. Battlecraft leve rewards are pretty lack luster and even if you do them with max difficulty and very quickly the bonus XP is very poor. I haven't done a DoL leve in a while but I tried a couple with Botany during Phase 2 beta and found the XP rewards to be quite good with pretty good time-based bonuses available as well.

Though here's my logic: I want to level the mining a bit faster, but the leves are more valuable towards a crafting class.

Any "grinding" you do on the DoL is essentially money. You get stacks and stacks of ores, gems, reagents... even if they sell slowly and floods the market, you do get money for them. Hasteninig your trip so you can mine bigger and better things is fine, but in the end you're losing out on money in comparison.

With DoH classes, I've found exp is very hard to come by for certain phases (most notably when you're done with most of a tier but not high enough level to unlock the next) unless you're spamming ingots/base material, which are tedious to make. With leves on those classes you can at least create stuff that gets turned in rather than being sold for a loss for the most part. Plus if you HQ the stuff, you get a TON of exp and a good bit of money.

Filling up the crafting log is nice but I found that people don't buy 90% of the stuff you make unless it's being sold at a loss, so it just clutters up the inventory. I end up vendoring most <lvl20 stuff.

I highly recommend saving your leves for DoL or DoH. They will help you level up much, much quicker. Also, look into doing your grand company supply quests. These all provide experience to the class required to do the supply quest. For a lvl 22 black smith doing the free company turn in gave 5500 experience, this is a significant chunk of the required experience TNL. Sure it's only once per day, but it's free exp!

Yeah, thanks for the answer. I was seeing the armory window with all its extra inv space, but was thinking that wasn't exactly what I expected armory to be. And not seeing how to save gear sets was driving me crazy.

Check again, BLM subjob used to be pugilist not Archer, this was a brand new thing that took everyone for a whirl, nobody knew until early release. In beta everyone thought it was arcanist. Arcanist will still be the subjob that every BLM/Thaum uses according to the forums so leveling archer is just to get the quest.

It makes no sense at all, blm subjob should be a magic based class, not a freaking bow and arrow.

ARC is like the bard of the game. Their buff (raging strikes?) also stacks with magic so you'll be glad you had to level ARC.

I haven't spent much time looking at class/job abilities yet for AAR, but in version 1.x, archer had -enmity cross-class abilities, which is the big reason it was chosen (from the current somewhat limited available classes) as one of the cross-class choices for BLM.

How are you liking WHM? I just unlocked SCH last night and while I haven't done a dungeon run yet (hopefully tonight), I really like the potential thus far.
