To get paladin you have to level conjurer, but none of their skills are really that useful to the paladin, especially in group play.

Ok *maybe* stoneskin, but that doesn't come until level 36. Seriously I don't want to level a class I don't want to play that high for 1 skill.

Waiting for a few friends to catch up and do Toto-Rak on my Archer and in the meantime just crafting the nights away lol. Last night me and two friends basically sat down outside the guild bank in Limsa Lominsa; "I can make a new X, you need it?" "Have I upgraded your Y yet?" "Anyone have a Q?" honestly it was ridiculously fun and rewarding. The way that no craft (except maybe cooking, but even then we provide his tools) is truly independent of the others is really well done, crafting 'together' works great.

Crystals starting to get a little expensive/scarce on Leviathan though lol, I've got a few hundred stored for most as it is but I think I may go do up to ~level 10/15 in some of the other crafts for the free bulk crystals from the guild quests.

Yeah I love the crafting system. Though right now I'm waiting for the server transfer so I'm just sitting and crafting by myself, and running out to farm a few mats here and there (mostly mining).

I did all the crafts up to lvl 15 and I have about 800-1.2k crystals sitting around. This morning I was making some leather and noticed I had about 1.3k earth crystals just sitting around...

How are you liking WHM? I just unlocked SCH last night and while I haven't done a dungeon run yet (hopefully tonight), I really like the potential thus far.

I like it a lot. Some of the later dungeons and heist I've played so far have kept me on my toes. I received my level 40 job skill after doing the quest for it. The skill iirc is called Divine and it increases healing by 30% for 15 seconds I believe. Combine that with the first job class you Presence of Mind, which increases casting speed (cuts casting time in half about) you can dish out some massive healing really quick.

I've played healers in most MMO's so the learning curve to actually playing one isn't really there for me thankfully. I'm enjoying the WHM a lot though. A lot of times I can throw regen on the tank switch to cleric stance and dps for trash mobs a bit. That depends on how good the tank is which varies wildly currently though.

So what are some good skills to pick up for a tank? Should I lvl gld to 30 and just get PLD before worrying about that?

Marauder, Lancer, and Pugilist all get useful defensive cooldowns at like... 4/6/8, something like that. +Def, +parry, and +eva respectively. Marauder also gets a 'life steal' ability pretty early, and Pugilist gets a weaponskill you can activate after evading/parrying which does solid damage and Slows the target.

As far as I can tell, pretty much every class gets a useful cross class ability/buff pre-10, and getting that far along is so simple you'd be doing yourself a disservice not getting access to at least all the relevant ones imo.

I have most of the low level ones from PUG, LNC and MRD, but not the life steal and I'm guessing the cross-counter skill from pugilist. Didn't do those 2 because I wasn't sure how useful the life steal is with my lower damage on GLD and the cross-counter is really only good for soloing, but that's nice to have I suppose. Thanks for reminding me.

PS: This just made my questing 200x better. Cluttered bags? NO PROBLEM!!

you have no idea how bat wings, puk wings, gobbue fangs, iron ores, HQ iron ores, silver ores, mudstones, mutton steak and other junk can make that simple task difficult.

Crafting was my favorite thing to do in 1.0, and is still a very high priority for me now. I have so many crystals saved up from 1.0 it isn't even funny. Leveling and instances aren't nearly as bad as they were in 1.0 so I'm actually enjoying it a bit more. But I really like how crafting isn't just "click button to make 20 iron swords". Paying attention and maximizing your result levels you up quicker, and makes you more money.

There's currently only one NA server still accepting new characters. I'm usually pretty lax about online game launches, but the idea that I'm wasting my free game time unable to play because I would be shuttled onto a server where all of my friends are not playing just annoys me. I don't want to play on some random server and be forced to pay to move my character to the server I wanted to be on in the first place. That's not cool.

EDIT:

Scratch that! Now, Adamantoise is no longer accepting players, which means I have to either play with the Europeans or the Japanese. :|

^ This is my problem. I haven't been able to login yet and I have friends advancing through their classes that started long after I did, lol. I think I'll just craft for now...again...until I can play with friends. Like I did in v1. >.<

They (SE) were totally caught by surprise with how popular this game is. They said they are getting more servers and giving free game time to everyone to compensate for the problem, we don't know how much yet currently.

This development team certainly seems to properly reward and compensate. I'm not worried about it too much. I just want to play.

I'm honestly not sure which is a better method of release: having too many servers that need to be merged later on, or having too few and adding more as popularity demands. Both have their problems.

As much as a PIA it can be, I much rather have fewer servers than a ton of them that will be merged later. Keeps all the servers nice and full instead of ghost towns and merging into another server usually sucks as well.

Oddly, I agree. It's depressing being on an empty server, swapping to another, then seeing it empty just the same.

It does make me wonder though: how many big server games run on virtual machines and why they can't cross-communicate with proper restrictions?

Yeah, I think a conservative estimate and then adding resources reactively is a better approach. Once a server starts to 'seem' to be 'dying' it's a dangerous domino effect for the server itself and the way hearing that affects the entire game.

Plus when SWTOR merged I had to change my name

I feel they screwed up and should have at least made it so your character can be on any of the servers at will so you could at least go to what server you can get on (and with your friends). It just seems they completely missed the boat on such a high profile MMO. If your character can pretty much be ALL roles at will, then there is not much incentive to create completely new characters and by doing it they way they did, they've severly segregated the player base.

they'll likely offer a free world transfer once everything settles down. I'm more anxious for them to fix their congestion issues instead.

A lot of little references make me smile in this game. But the level 44 story quest one made me chuckle pretty good, Enterprise...engage!

Finally got some game time in! The girlfriend was like, "I'm guessing I didn't hear from you because you were able to get on." Oh, how she was right, lol.

So, I'm seeing leve grinding is the quickest way to level? Joined the FC that my brother was in and people were like, "ding 50...finally!". Finally? Lol, 6 days... It makes me miss the difficulty involved with FFXI all over again.

FATE grinding is actually because you only get 3 leves every 12 hours (though you can "store" up to 100 I think). I see so many people FATE grinding at the high levels and really it makes me wonder why? I'm 45 almost 46 and besides like 1 time I've always had TONS of quests to do while doing the storyline quest (just pick up new quests when you go to a new town do them then do storyline quest and move on to next) and I have had no problems level as a CNJ/WHM. I can totally understand FATE grinding to get more Grand Company Seals and/or if it is a secondary class/job, but otherwise it is a waste imo. I saw a level 50 today he was doing the same storyline quest I was at 44. I was like really dude? You wanted to hit 50 so quick for really no reason and then go back and do the storyline quests when the tons of exp reward will be wasted now.

Also exp grind groups are popular with the chain bonus exp getting really high. If you are a tank or healer you can grind out guildheist (some are really easy and others not so much) really quickly as their queues are really short, especially next to DPS which have to wait forever.

I just queue up for a guildheist that is easy and go about my questing, heist pops I do it and continue on and do FATE's as I see them pop up. Doing this I only had 1 time when I didn't have any quests and the next storyline quest was not available to me till I leveled up 1 more level and that was actually at level 44 funny enough and I grinded out a few FATE's as they came up and did some dungeons/guildheists and a few leves.
