Having the host quit at like level 30 on Horde is really starting to piss me off. Also, if someone leaves, why can't you invite a friend to take their spot ? How hard could that possibly be to code?

ah, the good old non-coders who think everything is easy to code. i run into this a lot at work.

Really glad I bought this. Only played story mode so far but it is really good. Playing on normal because I want to finish it quick before dark souls comes out, but I'm sure I'll give it at least another replay on hardcore. I'm still early in the game though.

Played about an hour or two with my brother online last night. I'm worse than I thought I'd be, but it's still fun since neither of us really care about our stats and just try to win. I used to be OCD about my stats in games until I realized that nobody online cares what my stats are and that once I'm done playing that game, I'll never come back to those stats for any reason whatsoever.

We played Wingman for a while, which I really enjoyed. You are forced to work together and it gave my brother some time to teach me the nuances of Gears multiplayer a little bit.

You sayin' you can't just drop in random code without totally compromising the rest of the game? You sayin' you can't just drop in random code in a day and that it might take six months or more to perfect?

Oh, that's what I thought you were sayin'.

I just wish it would re-populate horde games with matchmaking. Sucks when people slowly quit one by one.

You know what? Despite all of the hate for the saw'd off and to a lesser effect the retro.. I'm really glad they're in the game. This game isn't all about the gnasher anymore, and feels really balanced to me. Every gun has it's plus and minus, and everyone one has a chance to get kills. Hardcore purist, ya'll just gotta adapt.

My favorite part of mp is gunning down the last guy, and having the whole team enjoy the final beat down.. so much fun. I even laugh when it happens to me.. mad funny.

I agree with you 100% on this. This is one of the things I love about this game. There are ways to counter everything.

I've played hundreds of video games on consoles and PC's where you can join a multiplayer instance in progress. If this is different since you seem to know everything, please explain it to me.

I can understand why they don't have people join horde modes already in progress. I try to just get a group of people to play it with anyways. That way we can plan what we want to do and make sure we are being wise with our money.

When there's open space, I can typically just join in my friend's Horde session. Is it different when you start a public session?

Well compared to everything else in the game they've already programmed, something like that seems pretty trivial.

Agreed++.

Coding isn't simple. For new features, you write a functional spec, a dev spec and usually a test spec. You then code it, and test it extensively before releasing it...and debugging games has to be the worst type of software to debug. I'd sooner debug kernel code.

Sure, and putting the Titanic next to the Moon makes it seem small, too.

Point is, GoW3 took a lot of time to code, and adding new features takes more time.

lol nice argument there. so you make the claim that it is simple, then i simply state that it probably isnt as simple as you think it is, and now i am the one who needs proof of my claim.

lol

oh and i've played THOUSANDS of video games on consoles and pc ... does that make me smarter about coding them than you?

and for the record, i'm a software developer and have been for 7+ years professionally.

But they already implemented join in progress in other modes. As far as I can tell, friends can join a horde match in progress, it just doesn't repopulate with randoms. It's not even a coding issue to begin with, it's by design.

yes, and since it is by design, chances are that implementing it would be even HARDER since it requires a major design change.

Chances seem far more likely to me that they chose to do it this way because even though people currently playing horde want people to join in, few people want to join a game in progress. So theyre not wasting people's time forcing them into games they don't want to be in. It's not like TDM where a match lasts 10 minutes, horde goes on for hours.

It's simply not a technical issue, all the pieces are in place. They already do this just fine in versus.

wanting to know is the third part of the trilogy the best of them?
The answer is highly subjective of course. I think they nailed it with most aspects of game play, and the campaign is much better than Gears2.

I was disappointed with where the story went. I felt like the opportunity for a good sci-fi cautionary tale, was squandered. But, the characters and their relationships, was finally explored, and provided good closure, IMO.

I think you are right. And it's different when you let friends join a private match. Usually, friends are better at communicating what is going on then randoms are. So, if you friend jumps in, you just let him know what you are doing and what your strategy is.
