From what I understand, they will have a intro that kind of goes over everything. So, you could get it and not be lost.

Though true, it's really missing a lot of content. I think what they included was just a simple reminded for most Gears fans. If someone is really interested in getting caught up I recommend Wikipedia.

The books are good as well. The Gears 3 story was written by the novelist that wrote the book, IIRC. I have them on my iphone and listened to them going back and forth to work over the summer to get me psyched for this release. However, the catch up vid in the game is pretty good. I'm sure someone has already posted it on youtube by now LOL.

Still sucks Horde uses p2p. I've played 4 Horde matches online and 3 have had the host bail mid-round. One of those was saved by a host migration while the other were FUBAR. In the last one, we were on round 14 with a ton of fortifactions (rare, since people have yet to figure out that spending your money on those is smart) and kicking complete ass. The same dweeb kept dying every round; well guess who the host was? When it migrated, all of our fortifications were gone, the round started all the way over, and it was just generally fukked.

Horde would be perfect if it wasn't player-hosted.

Who said I needed a manual to play this game? It's just nice to have. I keep all my game boxes and manuals in pristine condition. Package just feels incomplete without a proper manual. That's all I'm saying.

I agree with you. I remember the wonderful art that the Nintendo manuals would have. I remember how disappointing the black and white ones that came from EA for the Genesis were. The biggest difference is that games are extremely dumbed down and the first two levels are a tutorial on how to play. Then you get constant reminders on which buttons to press as you are playing.

Marcus's gravely voice has always bothered me, but it seems like the voice actor has dialed up the angst for the role which reduces this character to an even more absurd level of unbelievable--even in this fiction.

It's funny that you say this, as I specifically remember thinking that the voice actor for Marcus sounded much better than in the past.

I put about an hour into the single player so far. I think it's absolutely fantastic. You can tell they've had almost 3 years to polish this game. Controls are spot-on, the action is frantic and fierce, nicely paced so far. I'm playing on normal and it's extremely easy so far, haven't even come close to dying, it really feels like the easy setting.

Graphics are fantastic, lighting is great. No weird clipping, no post-load texture pop-in, no tearing, nothing weird. After about 20 minutes, I decided to kick in 3D mode, and fucking WOW. Best game I've played in 3D across both the PS3 and 360. The resolution takes a major hit which is pretty noticeable, but I honestly didn't care. It still looks great and the depth is very, very well done (when cranked to the max).

The amount of shit to unlock in this game is fairly astounding. It will keep people going for quite a while.

Finished act one with some buddies on co-op on hardcore. This game is a blast!

Got to play a bit more yesterday, this game just gets better and better. Got started with some beast mode and wow.. hilariously fun. Playing as a ticker is hysterical. Then, the berserker, and having that low visibility really captures the feel of being a blind berserker. However, this blind creature is a true beast, and the beast mode name just captures the feel of the entire mode cuz you just end up beasting on all these humans.. haha.


Then we did some mp, and there is like no lag at all. This is completely different from the gears 2 launch.
