I THINK IM IN LOVE OFFICIAL REVIEW

GeForce 6600 Series

-Official Tech Specs From nVidia

-nV News Review, With Pics

-INQUIRER

Well, it would appear that nVidia is releasing a very solid mid-range performer, perhaps the most interesting thing I noticed, was the lack of a molex connector on either card, and the SLI option on the 6800 GT. If anyone has anymore links in reference to this product, please post them.

UPDATE

8/25 Reviews (Also see Anthrax's thread in general hardware for more info.)

Makes me want to buy some nvidia stock. If I can play Doom III at 1280x1024 above 30 fps I'd be very happy

And I would be very pissed. That means I spent more money that I had to on a video card to get decent D3 performance!

Darnit, something just occured to me. It looks like these 6600s are all going to be PCI-X at first. I was hoping to get a 6600GT to go in my current system (see sig). I hate waiting, I wanted one ASAP.

Nice looking card. If it overclocks OK, it just might be the next Ti4200 in terms of price/performance ratio.

my thoughts exactly, and if you like the first one, buy another and hook it up SLI style!

Hmm. Exactly when is this video card coming out? Can't seem to find it on the articles (skimmed through it quickly, no clear release date). I'm going to need a new video card so I can play HL2, and just as I was doing some research, TADA! 6600! This seems really promising. Hurry up! T_T and I have to wait longer for the AGP version... sigh

EDIT: Late September at earliest... =P sowwy

Thanks, it seems that I can't be bothered with memorizing all the abbreviations these days.

And for tonights feature presentation:
From Guru 3D straight to your thread:
Transistors 222 million 222 million 222 million
For 6600, 6600GT and 6800 series.
All seem to feature the same core
Die shrunk 6800 core with no real changes? Very odd.

Making sure you get the difference between those two is important
PCI-Express is the next generation of slots for PC's. It includes the PCI x16 slot for graphics cards.
PCI-X is basically a server thing for high bandwidth add-in cards (like SCSI cards), and usually operates at 66MHz vs 33MHz for PCI, and is 64-bit, not 32-bit like PCI.

Architecturally I know the difference, acronymically (is that even a word?) I mess 'em up. Perhaps I confuse the two as I use the PCI-X parts here at work.

I thought I read somewhere that the 6600 series has 146 million transistors??

I'm REALLY tempted to get a 6600 GT when I move to PCI-E, it seems like a perceft balance of performance and cost. Those 8 pipelines remind me of the Radeon 9500 Pro. Which because of them, is still an amazing card.

I suspect the 6800 to be an excellent overclocker, atleast on the core. Also, I wonder how the 9800p will look after these cards are released. It may just go down a bit in price to fit in better. Or maybe the 256bit memory bus will help it hold it's price better.
