What you need to do is get into the main BIOS screen. Press CTRL+F1 and it will bring up a submenu called Advanced Chipset Features. This is where you change the mem settings. Change it to manual from SPD and timings to 3-8-3-3 to start off with (I don't know the specs of your RAM). Then save and reboot with your memory. Then you can try tighter timings like 2.5-8-3-3, 2.5-7-3-3, 2.5-7-2-3, 2.5-7-2-2, etc. Whatever your RAM can handle.

I am wanting a good heatsink to go with this board and a 3.06 HT CPU. I am looking at ALPHA PAL8942T. I would like to know what you guys think about this paired up with 80mm Vantec Stealth and would it fit on this board.

For jonmullen i would go with a Swiftech MCX4000!

For all the people her with a raid set-up can you please help me out.
I have 2 HDD on IDE3 and 4 and i can't install win xp pro.
I put some drivers for "Silicon Image Sil 3x12 SATARaid Connroller for windows XP" and that diden't work.

So could somebody give me a some steps in bios or elesewhere to try and troubleshoot this?

Thanks so much!

Ps. I have a cdrom hooked up to ide 1 and a cd-rw hooked up to ide 2
if that matters?

I assume you're referring to the corsair twinx memory issue.. if this is the case, Monarch technicians cannot seem to get it to work. I am told it has to do with the latency 2.0 vs 2.5 or some such issue. If they cannot figure out what you suggest above perhaps I should direct them to this forum site..

Well this is the low-down.
I got windows on and some other software...looking good.

The only problem i can see is that when i boot up
i get this

"Hit blah blah to enter Raid utility"
Which i can't by the way

Then this

"Primary channel Drive not found"
"Secondary Channel Drive not found"

What dose that mean?

SkyLineGTR, if you have your drives on 3&4 you need the raid driver& not the SATA. They are in the Other/Promise folder. I dont have this board but the GA8INXP which is very similar.
For the folks who are having problems w/Corsair, you should boot with 1 single stick then go to Bios, load setup defaults, then OS. When that works, shut down& put more sticks & repeat the same. You may not be able to boot to the OS thats OK, you just wanna get to the Bios. I have come to conclosion that Gigabyte Bios needs time to it self, just like a woman, it needs time to MATURE.

SkylineGTR, I believe those last two messages are actually from your SATA channel, not your IDE Raid. The two sets of messages do pop up one right after the other with no spacing between them, plus it's hard to really remember what you saw once the boot moves on (voice of experience).

I also have single hard drives (set as primary) on both IDE3 and IDE4, but I am not running them in a RAID configuration. I ended up with this configuration because I couldn't get my CDROM or my CD-RW to work on those channles, so they are now (set as primary) on IDE1 and IDE2. I had no problems installing XP-Pro.

Sounds like you're "over the hump". Just be happy you're not getting that "DPVRM Power Failure" message like I am!

ANybody know how to find out the temp of the chipest (655)? I can find the cpu temp in easyTune "around 33" but what about the chipset or motherboard temp?

Thanks again

I finally have closure on the DVPRM power failure message that has bedeviled my GA-SINXP1394 from the very start. The message is gone now that I have flashed to the F5 Bios.

Frankly, I don't believe the F5 Bios really fixed anything. I suspect instead that they merely lowered the low voltage threshold that triggered the failure alarm in the first place. GigaByte told several owners to switch to Emerex (spelling?) power supplies, and they found that this did eliminate the failure message. I'm guessing these have tighter voltage regulation than my mediocre Channel Well PS which shows only 11.7v on the 12v supply (in EasyTune).

So I guess my DVPRM is now okay . . . . more or less.

Corsair LL memory seems to be the only one affecting the SINXP. I have the Corsair Cas 2 memory and it booted up fine.

I am using mother board monitor 5 to check the temps of my mother board and chips. I think I am running waaaaaay too high temps!!!

Can anyone tell me what they get for their temps on the different sensors?

My results look like this:

Sensors[1] : MAX1617-9 (local)---------------> 63 C
Sensors[2] : MAX1617-9 (remote)------------> 63 C
Sensors[4] : Sis950/ITE8705F-1--------------> 24 C (Case temp?)
Sensors[5] : Sis950/ITE8705F-1 Diode
Sensors[6] : Sis950/ITE8705F-2--------------> 127 C!!!! :Q (CPU temp?)
Sensors[7] : Sis950/ITE8705F-2 Diode
Sensors[8] : Sis950/ITE8705F-3--------------> 74 C (mobo temp?)
Sensors[9] : Sis950/ITE8705F-3 Diode

It won't let me select the diode temps

My CPU temp is listed in the BIOS as 30 C on average.

These results seem....a little on the high end....maybe??

This is the first time I have used this program, so maybe I am doing something wrong. What are you guys getting?

Anyone know if this board supports SATA RAID? Anand's review says yes (in the Dual RAID section), and the SATA chip supports it on paper, but I don't see anything in the manuals or online for it. The BIOS config pics in the manuals only show IDE devices also. Thanks.

I recently built a new computer based on the 8SQ800 mobo with a Pentium 4 processor. The system boots by itself and I can't seem to figure out what the problem is. Here are the specs on my new computer:

Giga Byte 8SQ800 Mobo
P4 1.8GHz processor
Mushkin 512 DDR ram
30 Gig Maxtor drive
ATI Radeon VIVO Vid Card with 64 megs of DDR ram
Creative Labs DVD-Rom
TDK CDR drive
Windows XP home edition

When I play Raven Shield or Q3A I get boot off the system or it will reboot or lock up. I am stumped on what the cause is. I appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you.

I've never been able to get real temps from monitors on this board. 127c is some default reading I get when I read these with programs other then EasyTune, which gives me the correct temp. I have a DigDoc5 monitoring actual temps for all sorts of things and they are all fine.

Does the Gigabyte GA-8SQ800 Ultra2 support Corsair TWINX RAM? I heard there were some issues... have they been fixed?

Hi guys, I am going to build a new system first time by myself and I am looking for some suggestions. I have already had these parts: Antec 1040BII case, PNY Gforce4 4200 8x 128M VC, TBSC sound card, 2 Maxtor 80GB harddrives, DVD drive, and CDRW drive. I am expecting some mild OC but I am not very experienced. I think I am going for the 8SQ800. Here are some of my questions and I deeply appreciate your answers.

1. Which type of CPU I should go for? I heard about "SL6S2" version of 2.4 and 2.53, which retailer will have them? If they are in retail boxes, how can I tell which version they are without opening the boxes?
2. Which memory will not have compatibility issues with the board and can offer good oc ability?
3. Do I need to buy extra fans or heat sink? If yes, which will be good choises.

All comments are welcomed. Thanks, guys.

I would go for the Gigabyte GA-8KNXP for around $220, when it's available soon, along with a 2.6GHz P4 C (with 800MHz FSB and HT) $220 that should be out May 11th or 20th.
