Awesome...it will be tried this evening. And I swear to whichever god you follow...if that works then I am buying you a pizza.

Thanks again.

If CAS is 2, try lower it to 2.5, or 3 if SPD detect it as 2.5.
The only CAS option was 2. No luck. Still the same problem...once the blue bars make it through 1 1/4 passes, the system reboots. Can't get in through safe mode either. SPD detected the set as 2-6-2-2. I tried changing all the numbers and nothing. One odd thing I just noticed on the invoice for the memory purchased: Corsair TWINX1024-3200LLPT. I never noticed the PT. Did you get your system up and running yet? I am most likely going to try new memory. Any recommendations?

Thanks.

nevermind the pt.

Googlegear.com (from where it was purchased) says this:

**Tested at ultra-low latency settings (2-3-2-6), command rate of 1T **. Checking to see if that works, but I freaking doubt it.

I have Corsair TWINX1024-PC3200LL in the ga-8knxp based system I just built. I didn't realise how many folks were having trouble with low latency ram on this board when I ordered it or I would have gone for the 'C2' which is what's recommended.

When it first posted and I went through the bios settings (load failsafe, check, load optimised, check) and got the cpu/mem going at the right MHz/clock (stock2.4C w/200MHz FSB/mem@400DDR) I ran a couple hours of Memtest86 and saw 3 intermittant errors in test #3 (Twice at the same address/bit but not repeatable when I manually run test #3). This didn't have any effect on my ability to partition/format/install XP Pro though.

I have since gone back and bumped the Dimm voltage up +.02 to 2.7v (after reading Mem Guy's recomendations in the Corsair forum). I have not yet gone back into bios to change the timings so they're still at 2-3-2-6T1 (LL stock). I just ran 1 cycle of Sandra burn and the mem throughput tests which didn't hang me. I'll probably go back and loosen the timings to 2-3-3-6T1 as per Corsair recomendations for this board/chipset at some point soon. I really haven't pushed this system yet to torture test it. I guess I'm just lucky so far ram wise. *knock wood*

Edit: Ran Memtest86 for 8+ hours with stock LL timings (2-3-2-6T1 [2-6-3-2 the way it reads in Giga's bios]) and voltage at 2.7v (+.02v) and got 0 errors. Yay! I think I'll keep the stock timings for now.

More Corsair mem info for this board here.
Mem Guy even posted a beta bios towards the end of that thread (F6K).

hi

i have the ga-8ik1100, and trying to get a fiddly problem sorted out with the ich5r sata raid.
it all seems to run fine except i cant reboot/restart without it losing my hard drives.....

Power off/on brings it back but... it shouldnt happen

specs:

p4 2.6
ga-ik1100
1gb kingston 400's (512/512)
2x 120gb SATA Seagate Barracuda's
gigabyte 9800 pro

in bios i have it set to "auto" and "SATA Port0"

heard someone have a similar problem earlier, but no reports of wether it could be fixed or
not, and i wouldnt have thought changing settings of the ram as other people have been
having problems with would fix this problem.

im guessing its maybe a firmware prob?? but i havent much experience with raid, does this
happen with other raid setup's if the mobo dont like the hdd's or if the 2 hdd's arent
compatible...

Have you tried relax the time for Precharge delay, RAS# to CAS# delay and RAS# precharge?

I am using Geil PC3500, spec call for 2-6-3-3 but I have to set it to 2-8-4-4 to make it work with this mainboard.

I have the same problem but with Gigaraid, guess we need to wait for next bios revision.

Well, it seems that when I plugged in the 2-6-3-3 settings, it would produce the same results. So I kept those settings and decided to reinstall the OS. BOO-YAAAA! Clean installation all the way around. As of now, everything is stable. I am still installing some additional cards and software, but everything seems to be running great. I also have not tried any type of RAID yet, and will be following your posts to see if I get the same problems you are having.

Do you recommend running any of the memory test/burn-in programs?

Thanks so much for all your help (and everyone else). Seems that if I did a little more setup research, this whole mess could have been avoided.

Here is an interesting email I received from tech support at GigaByte:

Hi,

Pls use Samsung, Kingston or Micron memory for this M/B.
Tks.

Gigabyte E-service

I asked for a list of supported memory and told him of the current Corsair that I was using. What was not attached to this post was the 3 page Word doc. that Mr. Gigabyte E-service kindly wrote to me. It included an "I'm sorry for all the problems"...

I purchased this board and purchased two sticks of Geil 256 Ultra Platinum PC3500 433 DDR from Newegg to go with it. Well imagine my dismay when it gave me the 'No memory installed' beeps when I went to boot. Thinking that it couldn't be my memory, I sent the board to RMA. 3 weeks after receiving it they finally get to it and tell me that it tests fine with 400mhz and kingston hyperx pc3500. They are now wrapping it up and shipping it back. 3 weeks to find this out - UGH.

I'm curious if any of you have successfully used Geil pc3500 in this board so that I can make some determination of whether or not my memory is bad or just doesn't work in this board.

Thanks,

-John

So you don't have to scroll back, I quoted myself above. So yesterday I got the board back. For grins I decided to boot it again with the Geil DDR that I have. It didn't POST as I expected, I just assumed it was just beeping at me, not detecting the memory as it had before, but since I hadn't hooked up the pc speaker yet, I didn't know that it is now not doing ANYTHING, including beeping.

So based on a suggestion further down the thread, I borrowed a neighbors Kingston PC2100 DDR to try to get to my BIOS. I wasn't sure if it would work or not. Of course it didn't, however I am not sure if it's because this board wouldn't boot anyhow with that type of RAM in it or not. I assume with a 200 mhz fsb speed that it wouldn't. Perhaps some of you can advise.

The real issue is that after I connected my pc speaker and booted I found that the board no longer even gives me the 'can't find memory' beeps, it's completely silent, no bios, no post, nothing. I suppose that could mean a bad cpu, however I used the same cpu that I used to attempt to boot the board before I RMA'd it, which has been sitting on the shelf during the last month, waiting for this board to come back from a pointless RMA. Even so, I removed and reseated the CPU, still nothing. I pulled the CMOS battery for about an hour and tried again, still nothing. No POST, no beeps, no nothing. This after booting fine for the gigabyte techs just days before.

I am at my wits end, two months after purchasing this board, I sit here with $900 dollars worth of paperweights.

The Phoenix BIOS doesn't help much in the way of beep codes, from what I gather you get two, a single beep for all is good, or infinite beeping for 'all other problems'. It doesn't say what you do if you get no beeps at all.

Gee thanks for narrowing it down for me.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

-John

This GA-8KNXP Ultra is anvil-stable with Corsair TwinX 3200LL at 2-6-3-3 for weeks. They are two pairs of 512s = 2GB. Black heat spreaders. BIOS is F5.

Thanks fLoOdY. Good to hear that corsair works sometimes. I am waiting for my shipment to arrive. Anyone else have success stories with low latency corsair?

I am using Mushkin PC3200 memory that is supposed to run at 2-6-2-2 settings. If I leave it at SPD, it detects these settings. But, after saving the settings in the bios and rebooting, I get no post. I manually have the settings at 2-6-3-2 and have not had any issues.

I also had the problem with the drives disappearing with the ICH5R whenever I restart my system from within XP Pro. Since I installed beta bios F6K, I have not had these problems.

Update

I have a friend who works in an Intel hardware lab,
testing/stressing boards and cpus for a living. Last night we spent
two hours in his lab trying to get the board to post. A post card
generated ZERO post codes, it did however indicate that all voltages
are good so I know that I am not shorting out on the case. We
installed different memory, cpu, power supply, and video card. All to
no avail. We tested my stuff in a machine and it all came back good.
At this point, I am calling the board DEAD.

I called Gigabyte RMA today and talked with the RMA manager. He is
sending a new board out to me as I type this and sending a UPS truck
to my house to pick up the dead board. I explained the situation to
which he did not question me at all. He was very cordial and
cooperative and concerned with resolving the issue. Kudos to Gigabyte
for their customer service in this situation.

I am looking to hook up the front panel audio and mic jacks from my GA-8KNXP mobo to my chassis. I noticed that the current configuration on the mobo has two jumpers on the pins I need to use. For example, there is a pin labeled AUDIO REAR R jumpered to the AUDIO FRONT R.

The manual says I need to remove this jumper. I am just curious as to why it's there in the first place. Is it to prevent the voltage on the FRONT pin from floating, if you are not using it?

That happened to me when I tried the F6 BIOS. If you go to the Q-Flash screen you'll see that it booted from the backup BIOS. If you have your pc speaker connected you should hear a long series of beeps as it does this. For some reason this BIOS is generating a checksum error causing it to autorecover...

Same thing happened to me last night after I flash it in Window , was too tired to go any further and went to sleep.

Did you flashed in DOS mode? I am planning to do that today after work.

I used Qflash to update both primary and backup bios. Gigabyte's website had this warning before I downloaded the bios.
