Right. Thanks, I see PSB in the BIOS, and my mobo has always shown it enabled. I just don't know what PSB parking is. :?

I have started comparative benchmarking but won't finish tonight. You're right that mem bw varies with each run in SANDRA, but generally is not varying much more than about 20 points. I'll take an average of 5 runs.

Not sure why your DPM is disabled. It is true that there is no option to force it to enabled, but selecting Auto sets it to enabled on my machine. Here's my memory setup:
Corsair TwinX3200C2 512meg (2 x 256 running in Dual Channel mode) 2-3-3-7 1T, All Advanced Chipset options set to Enabled.
Are you running Dual Channel? Maybe that's the difference.

My CTIAW is exactly the same, except that you are oc'd to 2.9 and at the moment I am oc'd to 2.5. Your at a 5:4 ratio and I am at 1:1. Also I set Active to Precharge to 7, but that shouldn't matter.

I'll chime in and say I'm wicked pleased with the 8IPE1000-Pro, its been solid since day 1, and from what I've seen of all the other boards that seem to have threads stuck to the front page, more problems than not...


Anyway, anyone have any rough release/fix notes for this beta bios? I'll be trying it out this weekend...

As a helpful post for anyone doing a BIOS upgrade, here is how to tell between Rev 1.0 and Rev 2.0 boards, straight from the e-mouth of a Giga-byte tech

"when system boot press delete go into CMOS then press F9 key bios info will show check if bios version with number like F3 , F4 that is rev 1.0 board, if bios version with Alphabet letter like : FA, FB that is rev 2.0 board , do not update the wrong revision bios system will not boots any more"

I have the Rev 1.0 and it's a great board. A BIOS was just released to "Support intel Prescott and P4Extreme family CPU" which I suppose means they didn't cut corners with the VRM. The Rev 2.0 adds CIA and MIB but if I was buying now I would look for the 1000 Pro 2 and 1000 Pro 3 if possible also. I think the 2 adds GigaLAN and the 3 additionally adds RAID (ICH5R).

I agree. I'm waiting for the 1000 Pro2, but no one in the US is currently selling it. I did find a vendor in Canada that has it.

I'm thinking about getting one of these for X-Mas and use it in a custom lan-box. I've read the manual and wondered why they put a section in it called Frequency/Voltage if there is no way to change the actual voltage. I would love to know if there is in fact a way to up the voltage, since I do plan on overclocking. Anyways regardless it's a nice looking board and has alot of good features packed into a small form factor.

tallman45, SATA boot was discussed recently on the gigabyte usenet group. As I recall, someone was having troubles but another user who was using one sucessfully offered advice about it and it seemed just a matter of the latest BIOS and correct CMOS Setup. Perhaps you can find the thread via google.

Re: support for P4 EE and Prescott, I must admit it was somewhat disheartening to read the rumors last summer about then very current mainboards lacking support for forthcoming CPU designs but mbreview posted this news item in July which offered hope, and sure enough it seems to have turned out correct as Gigabyte just releases BIOS's for their support:

"Hey all, I just received word from Platform Development personnel at Gigabyte. It seems that all of their i865 / i875 motherboards that are currently on the market were designed with FMB 2.0 and VRM 10.0 guidelines in mind. As many of you may have already read, the problem that is arising deals with the so-called mandatory FMB specifcation move from 1.0 to 1.5. Since the Gigabyte motherboards were designed with FMB 2.0 in mind, this would appear to make them fully compatible with both the current Northwood core Pentium 4's, and the upcoming Prescott core processors. Another interesting comment was that, as far as he knew, the stories you're seeing on various sites are only rumors and have yet to be confirmed. We'll keep you updated as we get more word on this issue."

I have an 8IPE1000PRO and need to add some HDD capacity. Now that SATA prices seem to be pretty comparable to IDE, I would like to try one. Does anyone know whether there is any problem mixing IDE and SATA drives on this mobo?

Also, this is a newbie question, but I've seen discussion regarding differing SATA power plugs. I've seen articles which refer to older 4-pin power molexes and newer 15-pin hot swappable power plugs. (To add to my confusion, I thought that one of the advantages of SATA was that it draws the power from the SATA cable.) Can someone tell me which type of SATA power plug I should buy for use with this board?

The power plugs should be more dependent on your power supply. The new connector makes hot swapping the power possible, and you can get converters from older 4pin molex to the new 15 pin molex. The power is hot swappable, and the data cable is too, but the drive is not powered over the sata cable. Also, don't get the 4pin sata cable confused with 4pin molex connectors...i've seen that a few times already

So anybody have the "GA-8IPE1000Pro 2004 GT Edition" board yet?

Just ordered one as it seemed to have the best bang for the buck and supposed to overclock well. I choose it as it has the 658 sound chip, NOT the 650 or even 655.
I also got a 160gig SATA maxtor drive and a 2.6C P4 chip. I really wanted a Athlon 64 but they still cost to much, I hope this chip and board setup with 1Gig of HyperX ram will hit 3.0Ghz range.

Did not know if anyone has this board and has tried it out yet.

no, I'm still back a few revisions. I did try the beta F7 when it came out, and I had similar issues to what you described (seems to hang during POST, but eventually, say 5 minutes or so, it will proceed and everything will be just fine). Because of this boot annoyance, I reverted back to my old BIOS.

I can try F8 and let you know...
