Well, my 965P-DS3 is on it's way (full list of parts in
this link) and I still have some questions, specifically about my HD and DVD connections, and the driver installation order.
Going to be using an IDE NEC3550A DVDRW, and a SATA Seagate 7200.10 HD (
link).
1) Should I remove the jumper that I've read about on the drive to make it 3Gb/sec?
2) I know I'm connecting the IDE optical drive to the IDE controller, so since it's going to be the only device on this IDE controller should it be jumpered as MASTER?
3) Should I connect the HD to the orange (Intel SATA) or purple (Gigabyte SATA) connector? If the Intel connector, should I change the default from LEGACY IDE to NATIVE (SATA) in the BIOS? My concern here is that if I do this, will I need to press F6 for a driver load during the XP installation? I have not planned to connect a floppy drive to this machine, and prefer to not have to do this unless necessary. If I do need a driver, which one? I notice the driver for this on Gigabytes website (
link) just indicates SATA RAID. Does it still apply though if I'm using any setting other than having the connection set to legacy IDE?
4) Once I have all of this up and running, should the Intel INF driver (also on the same page as linked about) be the first thing I install? Then proceed with the usual video, DirectX, etc...?
Sorry for all of these questions, but I've never used SATA before, and I'm at a loss, especially with the two different types of connectors and trying to avoid connecting a floppy to the system. I've read a lot of the posts here, along with the manual from Gigabyte's site, but I'm still in the dark it seems. So, if anyone can give me some feedback I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Tom
